So about that: Child marriage is still legal in 34 American states. The first state to ban underage marriage was Delaware and it only did that in 2018. Unlike Iran, 4 states have no minimum age. Between 2000 and 2021, 315k minors were married in the US. 86% were girls married to adult men. At least 66k of these involved a child that was too young to consent to sex or involved an age gap that would be considered statutory r***. Nineteen states have an explicit legal exception or defence to statutory r*** laws in instances of marriage, effectively shielding adults from prosecution for engaging in sexual activity with children. If that is what Trump wants, he doesn’t have to go to Iran especially since the legal system is already letting him off the hook.
