Europe should negotiate a peace deal with Iran so their ships can go through if they pay in yuan

I agree. Cancel all access to US bases in NATO countries, forbid the use of NATO airspace and get the oil flowing again, even if means paying the Iranian toll. If the US wants to posture as a hostile entity then treat it like one.

Europe doesn't have the balls and it never will. Just shore up the friendly gulf states air defences and let trump spew whatever bs he wants to, this is all a distraction being overly dramatic gives him what he wants.

NATO’s been called a paper tiger for decades but ripping it up mid‑game feels more like burning the rulebook than fixing it.

NATO has never seen as much real action as the last 26 years. And guess who invoked article 5.

[NATO invoked Article 5, not the USA](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2001_NATO_Article_5_contingency).

He is ignorant and short sighted. The only time in history that NATO's Article 5 has been invoked was by the US immediately after 9/11; all our NATO allies faithfully responded to the call and helped to win the war in Afghanistan, sacrificing blood and treasure.
Then, in his first term Trump gratuitously and unilaterally surrendered Afghanistan back to the Taliban by signing the Doha Agreement of February 2020, committing the US to a total withdrawal of all allied troops by May of 2021. This was *after the allies had won the war and a democratically elected government was in place*.
He betrayed both the democratically elected government there, the Afghan people, and our NATO allies who were still on the ground there and not consulted at all. Not to mention all the troops who gave their lives in the war. It was the biggest geopolitical blunder of his first term. The current war is the biggest geopolitical blunder of his second term. So far.

"helping win the war in Afghanistan" is a funny way of saying, "billions spent, thousands dead, stronger Taliban back in power"

Aren’t you glad the same guy that negotiated that surrender is now negotiating with Iran, with the priority seeming to be the same “whatever lets me get out of this war?”

It's only a paper tiger if the United States has no intentions of honouring its treaty obligations. So calling it that basically tells us that Trump never had any plans to respond in an Article 5 situation.

So he is calling NATO a paper tiger while also complaining they won't help fight a nuclear powered Iran… why kind of logic is that?? If they are that useless, why is he so mad they aren't helping?

Rhodin265Apr 1, 2026

Iran’s been “days away” from having nukes for like the past 50 years. If they actually had them, they’d have at least shown it off by now.

A successful paper tiger, no NATO country has ever been invaded, which is basically it's purpose

The real paper tiger seems to be the US. Hundreds of billions in military spend per year, can't win a war against a regional regime.

Typical Republican technique, create a crisis out of thin air and then blame everyone for not responding to fix the crisis.
Anyway, this was Putin’s plan all along.

Putin is now controlling even what words trump must use, putin got really pissed after ukraine (with barely any help from any other country in the beginning) proved that russia is actually a paper tiger, now putin wants the world to believe that europe, that has 20x more military than russia, is the paper tiger

Say goodbye to the F-35 program. 25% of the parts are made in Europe… plus the program becomes financially untenable without Europe purchasing planes.

Europe doesn't really need NATO. People will freak out if Trump pulls out but Europe can easily pivot to China who's waiting with open arms. There's no existential threat to Europe aside from Russia and they don't even look the part of credible imperialists.

China is a systemic rival to the EU. Several european leaders made that very clear in the last years. While there will be trade in some areas - a complete pivot will not (!) happen.
I don't know why this idea is still alive on some people.
