Give some examples of him doing it on Tuesdays more frequently than other days of the week.

Hvarfa-Bragi 2 days ago +4
It's a well defined pattern at this point. Say some wild shit after close on friday, ride the market with insider info on monday, retract on Tuesday.
4
notkevin_durant 2 days ago -9
Ok, giving you Friday close through Sunday counts as “after close.” Here’s the actual calendar: Feb 28 (Saturday) — War starts. “After close.” Retraction? No retraction ever came, bombing continued for 5 weeks. March 1 (Sunday) — “Combat continues until all objectives achieved.” After close. Retracted Tuesday? No — same position held through March 7. March 6 (Friday) — “Unconditional surrender only.” After close. Tuesday retraction? Nope — March 10 Hegseth doubles down at press conference. March 30 (Monday) — Threatens Kharg Island. Weekday, doesn’t fit at all. April 1 (Wednesday) — “Blasting Iran to the Stone Ages.” Weekday. April 7 (Tuesday) — “Whole civilization dies tonight.” Then ceasefire same day. Both happened on a Tuesday, not Friday/Tuesday split. April 19 (Sunday) — “No more Mr. Nice Guy, knocking out every power plant.” After close. Tuesday retraction? April 21 he extended the ceasefire — that’s actually a pivot, but it’s Monday not Tuesday. May 3 (Sunday) — “Very positive discussions.” After close. May 5 (Tuesday) — paused Project Freedom. Ok, that one actually fits. May 6 (Tuesday) — “Bombing starts if no deal.” So we’re just saying things now?

It has to do with the acronym TACO for Trump Always Chickens Out and a widely popular advertisement campaign detailing "taco Tuesday" sales that have made the two words synonymous with each other. The physical day on the calendar is largely irrelevant unless it happens to be the day the Epstine files are released.

I’m responding to the guy above me who gave a very specific pattern that is false. If we’re going to hold the president accountable, let’s at least be truthful. He’s done enough batshit things that we don’t need to fabricate it.

It is a well defined pattern that has exceptions. Why don't you work them all out for me?

ValleyFloydJam 2 days ago +9
If only they needed to get approval from some other part of the government, hmm, ah well. This deal is gonna be a mess and just not happen because neither party is responsible and Trump literally only wants them to make a bad deal, which is as bad faith as it gets.
9
cinciTOSU 2 days ago +8
They have been attacked twice by the USA during negotiations and they are smart enough to know that they can’t make a deal with Trump that he won’t break.
8
JebryathHS 2 days ago +12
That's the core problem with all negotiations involving the USA right now - the guy proposing them spent his first time trying to rip up as many deals as possible and is now trying to renegotiate the deals he ripped up along with the deals he replaced them with.  Obviously, Iran isn't in a huge position of strength here but they also know that any concessions they make are likely permanent and any gains they get, including peace pledges, may not even survive this guy's term.  For anyone who was wondering, this is one of many reasons the current president of the USA is absolutely doing generational damage to their country. No one in their right minds considers the USA to be a stable partner, reliable ally or even an honorable adversary in this world any more.

It was hardly a surprise attack the first time. The writing was on the wall for everyone. Despite the "negotiations" that were taking place at the time.

True of Pearl Harbor too, and that is still typically referred to as one.
1
the_eluder 2 days ago +1
At the time war was typically declared (even if just a few minutes) before hostilities started, and I believe the Japanese declaration just wasn't timed correctly, communication being what it was back then.
1
ScottyBoneman 2 days ago +2
Absolutely, they botched it. Still, the US had been preparing for the possibility of conflict and de-escalation talks were ongoing but not going well. I'd argue they both count.

Was there ever actually a cease fire? I'm believing no.
83
rabidstoat 2 days ago +31
I heard a talking head today say that the ceasefire was holding diplomatically, but not really militarily. I guess that means there are bombs falling but both sides are pretending like it's still a ceasefire.
31
rubbarz 2 days ago +11
So the politicans, who never fight in any wars, arent shooting at each other. But the militaries, who fight the wars, are.

Does fire happen on the battlefield or in paperwork?
1
rabidstoat 2 days ago +1
I'm not sure, but if someone has their house destroyed or a family member killed by a bomb, you can console them with the fact that hey, the ceasefire is working diplomatically.

Trump only has one move and that’s to threaten cataclysmic and mutually destructive action if he doesn’t get his ways. Because he’s had a power advantage his entire life (first being rich and screwing over the working class) and later as president that has almost universally worked. This time though, he started a war he had NO intention of continuing to try to distract from Epstein and get a big win. He didn’t expect Iran to dig in and escalate (but he should have), so he didn’t have any plans for if they didn’t capitulate. It’s why he keeps making the same threats over and over again even though they clearly don’t do anything. Now his options are continued bombing, which will result in the strait being mined and shut down for probably months even after the conflict ends, a ground offensive (which results in the same but with a lot of casualties), or maybe a nuclear bomb. The nuclear bomb is the most terrifying because we don’t really come back from that. In WW2, there weren’t really norms concerning nukes, but its been argued and many agree that given the nature of threat Japan presented and the risk of Japanese and American lives being lost by continuing a ground invasion or sustained bombing, it was a lesser of two evils. The US not using nukes in Korea and later in Vietnam, and the Soviet’s not using them in Afghanistan created a standard that barring a truly existential threat, we don’t use nukes and both sides abide by that. Russia didn’t use nukes on Ukraine even after the offensive became way more costly than they considered and sanctions put a bid dent in their economy. The absolute worst outcome of this war, even worse than total capitulation and Iran becoming a nuclear power who controls the strait, is if Trump uses a nuke. This was a war of choice we started. Our war goals at this point seem to be restoring the status quo from before the war. If we drop nukes in this war, even ignoring the pointless loss of innocent life that immediately causes, it normalizes the use of nukes. If we drop a nuke on Iran, within a couple years we won’t be the only country to have used nukes in a war and the genie doesn’t go back in the bottle. This war has also cemented my hate for multiple Trump voters. I get being tricked in 2016. Obama made a lot of promises, and only really partially delivered. The benefits of those programs were mostly found in cities, and the country got left behind. They had decades of both parties promising to help, and not. Then they had a political outsider who said a lot of what they believe, spoke to them in a way no one else had, confidently promised he had solutions for them and didn’t really fit into either party. I get why people fell for it in 2016. Then we saw 4 years of Trump where he was needlessly cruel. Didn’t deliver on ANY of his promises (especially promises about bringing jobs back), and was generally ineffective, endlessly decisive, and harmful. After the first term, there is no benefit of the doubt. People saw Trump and still voted for him. They can say they only voted for X or Y, but at the end of the day they chose Harris/ or Trump and chose Trump. They don’t get any grace or understanding. They chose this, and honestly when democrats are out of office, in a fair world we wouldn’t bail out the farmers who lost everything because of Trump’s policies. We will because they’re Americans and we care about them, but in a just world they would have to live with the collective political decisions and the consequences of the same.

Calling it a ceasefire at this point feels generous. If one side is rejecting proposals and openly saying it has a 1% chance of surviving, it sounds more like a temporary pause before the next escalation.
23
TurbulentRadish8113 2 days ago +9
... isn't that a type of ceasefire? Ceasefires are generally temporary. They can end with renewed fighting or peace progress, right? 🤔

When one side of the deal is notorious for breaking every deal he makes, it's hard to take anything he does seriously. Maybe the USA should consider replacing him with someone that is actually credible as a decision maker. Honestly, it's almost not worth reporting the garbage that comes out of his mouth.

I feel as though it is becoming obvious that this war is only for stock market manipulation and the benefit of the elite. You may be saying, "No shit Sherlock, that's what all wars are for", but this is different. No real goal. Previous wars may have been laughably misguided, but the narrative was at least clear and consistent. There is doccumented proof that minutes before the announcements, large trades are made that only benefit the transaction after Trump makes said announcement. It is blatant market manipulation that is making a lucky few into billionaires every week, meanwhile the American public remains upset, but overall flacid, or in some cases in support of the war. Nobody will ever face justice for any of these actions, which is already upsetting given previous wars that demand justice, but this is blatant, brazen manipulation without even the slightest bit of narrative or explanation.

bla bla bla. When will trade be open AND safe again? then add 18 MONTHS after that for gas prices to go back to the same levels at the start of this year. SO this year AND next - food prices will SUCK with 0 fix. As in, any fix will take longer. Lots of fixes possible, but does nothing for this year and next years harvest. And that is if it was all AOK today... so... shit.

This is going to last for months with the odd clash here and there, negotiation proposals from both sides sent back and forth with no agreement reached.
