What is the agreement exactly? There are several reports claiming different points of peace plan and whose points have been considered and agreed upon ?

They should really write these things down.

It’s written down in the form of hundreds of contradictory tweets. Is that not good enough?

With all the reports going on, I'm starting to strongly suspect that as the clock was ticking down, they mediation team more or less panicked that they were gonna run out of time, handed both sides whatever they wanted to hear, just to kick the can down the road. I mean, probably not nearly that "submit homework at 11:59" level of comical but still, be it translation blurriness or verbal massages to each side that weren't technically what the other side actually agreed to. Which is why nothing is officially released, because then each side could see that their verbal agreements weren't the actual ones. A strategy to more or less gaslight people into peace by stalling the war long enough it's to difficult to restart when the agreement is not what was agreed to.

HK-53 3 days ago +4
Not difficult to restart if they never stop…

But what do you write down? The things Iran has said in the meetings, or the things Trump has discussed with himself in the mirror and agreed on for all parties?
56
notnotbrowsing 3 days ago +34
My conspiracy theory is this: Irans bullet points are closer to the truth than trump.  Trump purposely doesn't post anything useful, and when the backlash comes with how stupid trump is for agreeing to Irans list, he goes on his tirade about how it's all fake news.  Rinse and repeat until the public fatigues on it, or they don't call him a sucker for agreeing to it.
34
MaybeTheDoctor 3 days ago +9
Doesn’t sounds like “conspiracy” to me

The '10 point plan' Iran brought to the table does nothing to benefit the US or Trump. * A guarantee that Iran will not be attacked again * A permanent end to the war, not just a ceasefire * An end to Israeli strikes in Lebanon and against Iranian allies * The lifting of all US sanctions on Iran * Iran agreeing to reopen the Strait of Hormuz * Introduction of a $2 million fee per ship transiting Hormuz * Revenue from shipping fees to be shared with Oman * Funds to be used for reconstruction of war-damaged infrastructure * Establishment of safe passage protocols through Hormuz * A broader framework to end regional hostilities Iran called his bluff and he spun it to his followers like a victory. Notably, Israel has already refused to end their campaign against Lebanon. And there's never been a discussion of the US running the Strait or revenue sharing the way Trump said.
19
SqueekyDickFartz 3 days ago +9
I think trump will "allow" Iran to have the revenue from the strait as long as Iran agrees to various things like not enriching Uranium or whatever. His supporters won't care that this is the same basic idea as the deal he ripped up. Liberals will be incredulous, MAGA will insist it's perfect in every way.
9
emelbee923 3 days ago +6
Yeah, I had the same thought, that the end result would just be the JCPOA that Trump derided and withdrew the US from. But because MAGA doesn't know what the 'Iran nuclear deal' actually entailed, they will heap praise upon their god-king.
6
Tuesday_6PM 2 days ago +2
To be clear, Iran collecting revenue from the straight is a significantly better deal for Iran than the deal under Obama. That’s a huge source of revenue they previously haven’t had. Not that I disagree that the “plan” is likely to wait until MAGA gets bored and lie about the situation anyway
2
deafpoet 3 days ago +6
The $2M fee is hilarious. "Guys, we could have been charging this the whole time, and they'd *never* let us do it without a fight. He's just... giving us the perfect excuse to start?"
6
resisting_a_rest 3 days ago +7
Exactly. They didn’t do it before because of fear or reprisals. Trump pushed the issue and now they know there will be no reprisals. I wonder if they bought Trumps cryptocurrency to get this deal. No, probably just Trump admin incompetence. We will never know.

Iran sent Rubio a pair of correctly sized shoes. After easing his blistered feet into them he rushed to tell Trump how Iran accepted all his demands and it was time to call off the bombers.

There is no agreement. He just needed the fog of an agreement to back down from his “end civilization” threat. They basically made a fake agreement (every side claiming they got what they want) to convince everyone he let diplomacy prevail. The reality is the war is going to kick back off soon but there’s not going to be some doomsday clock on mass murders.

They don't want to share it publicly AFAIK, so nobody really knows.
2
TheSleepyTruth 3 days ago +2
Nothing in the peace plan has been agreed upon, that is whats being negotiated. What has been agreed upon was a total cease fire with opening of the Strait while negotiations take place. Iran still hasnt opened the Strait and Israel still hasn't stopped attacks in Lebanon so... not looking great.

So trump tweeted the wrong thing?
5
IntelArtiGen 3 days ago +5
Only Pakistan knows and I haven't seen them share the 10 points. TBH it's "very unrealistic" (to say the least) that the US considers the 10 iranian points to be a "basis of negotiations".
5
ACMomani 3 days ago +8
Pakistan said Lebanon are included in the ceasefire, Israel said no they aren't and Trump immediately followed.
8
Royal-Hunter3892 3 days ago +3
They claimed Lebanon is included in the ceasefire deal but US rejected these claim and said lebanon is not part of the deal . It's not only disagreement and confusion between Iran and US but it is also disagreement even between the Pakistan and US .
3
IntelArtiGen 3 days ago +2
For what I got, they (Iran/the US/Pakistan) all agreed it should be included. But they didn't contact Israel before, and Israel refused after Trump called them. I haven't found a good source on this, but it seems plausible. In this case, Trump lied when he said Lebanon wasn't included, but Pakistan shouldn't have declared the ceasefire without making sure they all agreed to it, including Israel. You can't just say "they all agree to not fight" without making sure they all agree to not fight.
2
Royal-Hunter3892 3 days ago +2
Not including Israel which is a primary player of this conflict is a stupid thing Or it might be a deliberate goof up , to put pressure on Iran on the last moment to make them accept it or get accused of breaking the ceasefire.

His whole Presidency is like that. If he just went golfing for four years and just let things run on autopilot, the US would be in a much better position than it is now. Tourism would still be thriving, no tariff nonsense..

I admit there was a part of me that assumed that’s what he would do the first time around. I figured he would quietly do some illegal shit that would be financially beneficial to his businesses, give some speeches talking about how great he was but really do nothing. So I was pretty wrong.

The key difference is that he finds ways to fail upwards in his private life because the principal of “look like a w***** at all costs” actually seems to work kind of well as a private citizen. It’s the Middle East special. Each party agrees only to their own terms, calls it peace, and resumes business as usual.
119
IntelArtiGen 3 days ago +13
Currently it's the most likely outcome I'd say. No one agrees on anything, and the current situation continues. Though I wouldn't say it's "business as usual" if the strait remains closed / semi-open. I don't even know how they want to "negotiate" all these issues. Iran and the US haven't changed their positions and I don't see how or why they would change it: on nuclear materials, on missiles, on proxies, on sanctions etc.
13
my_juicy_nose 3 days ago +6
The most likely scenario is trump declares victory because he’s the best president ever and so strong unlike Obama who was so weak, then he goes home.
6
IntelArtiGen 3 days ago +2
They were all going to declare victory anyway, it was obvious from Day 1. AFAIK they both suffered casualties and lost billions in material damage so I'm not going to call that a victory for either side.
2
ghkilla805 3 days ago +5
If Iran ends up being able to charge tolls for the Strait, and keep their nuclear enrichment, then it would be a pretty definitive win I would think. But that all depends how the negotiations go since those should be a red line for the US
5
Likeapuma24 3 days ago +2
I agree. But if all that remains of Iran is piles of rubble, then it's a bit less glamorous of a win.
2
One-Engineering-4505 3 days ago +6
It's not even each party, the us has three different high ups all giving different objectives for why the war happened, what they want out of it, and what it would take to end it.

Trump “chickening out” has almost always been the best option when one of these situations comes up and I really don’t get people basically trying to taunt him into doing something objectively worse for everyone. Is anybody not happy that he “chickened out” and didn’t nuke Iran? I know it was a bluff, but the point is still the same.)
