Or, Iranian leadership made a deal with Pakistan to allow their ships through, without any input from the US. I believe they actually announced they were doing exactly that a number of times. Then they played up to Trump's ego by telling him about it, pretending it was all his doing. Everyone knows the best way to get Trump to relax his demands is to give him a win of some kind, no matter how small.

Honestly this is nonsense, they have a fully functioning government and IRGC command structure. Most (non US-Israeli) intelligence agencies agree on this. There's no reason to believe otherwise, and there's every reason to doubt what we're being told by US-Israeli media. Anyone with half a brain and access to images, videos and first hand sources from the Middle East that are not being heavily censored can clearly see the Iranians have a well coordinated and organized strategic response. $2 million per tanker was the last bill I saw. A VLCC supertanker is about 2 million barrels, while the smaller tankers are more like 1 million barrels or half a million barrels. So a "tax rate" of 1% to 4%. The war has pushed oil prices up by about 40%, by comparison. I expect, given the US' failure to exercise control over the Strait, that most of the rest of the planet would be willing to pay off Iran rather than suffer through the oil shock. That might be the only route to de-escalation at this point - everyone pays tolls to Iran, Iran lets tanker traffic resume, the US declares that's an American victory and leaves. Trump's stupid enough to think that's an actual victory. But Netanyahu wants the war to continue to keep himself out of jail, and MbS would much rather spend billions of American dollars and as many American lives as are available to spend trying to subdue Iran than have them take a 1% cut on oil revenues. And Hegseth wants to keep the war going long enough to make Jesus come back. So I don't think the planet's getting out of this f*** up soon.
