It turns out, Iran is just a bit harder to push down stairs than his ex wife

How is this guy such a horrible human being that I forgot about this story?

His cruelty was THE selling point for the significant minority of Americans who put him in office.

First time I’ve seen this joke. I’ll pass it on with your compliments. Always thought it was Russian who tossed her down the stairs.

>Always thought it was Russian who tossed her down the stairs. Nah, the Russian calling card is defenestration.

wait what? I'm not from the US. I know you elected a pedophile-racist-rapist who is also a dumdumb who can't make two neurones work together, but I didin't know he pushed his ex-wife down the stairs.
1
Paraxom Apr 1, 2026 +4
We're not sure if he did tbh, but his ex wife with mobility issues mysteriously fell down the stairs she rarely used  in her home and died shortly she was to be interviewed for a legal deposition. She was then hastily buried on the grounds of one of his golf courses in a poorly maintained plot
4
nerodidntdoit Apr 1, 2026 +2
WOW thats crazy! This probably sounded farfetched back when it happened, because "nah, this is tooo cruel to be true", but now it's just another thing that fits his MO. Edit: she died only FOUR YEARS AGO. Forget what I said above.

This is the final blow to the US by Trump. We now look stupid and powerless to the world. A very dangerous situation to be in and Trump has made our allies hate us. F****** dangerous to the citizens of America and will last for generations and all because of stupid fkn ppl electing Trump 🤯

BannedAgain12341 Apr 1, 2026 +64
I studied at UCLA, and from the very first day I stepped into the US, the next seven years became some of the most unforgettable chapters of my life memories I’ll always hold close. But the US I see today feels different almost unfamiliar, a little more chaotic, like something quiet and beautiful has changed.

OniCr0w Apr 1, 2026 +48
I'm convinced a lot of people are subjected to a constant barrage of right-wing propaganda via social media currently and are completely immersed in their echo chambers in the US right now. It's strange when running into it in the real world because they'll act as if some discriminatory behavior, as a broad example, is socially acceptable and commonly encouraged but when nobody reciprocates they become confused like they didn't get the reality they expected. I'd really go as far to say they're deluded. I hope that makes well-enough sense. The main culprits brainwashing Americans I believe are Facebook and X.
48
Warlord68 Apr 1, 2026 +23
Add on to this Work/life balance is poor for many Americans, personal debt, lack of vacation time, lack of health care. The American dream is dead.
23
Seanspeed Apr 1, 2026 +5
Social media creating bubbles of uninformed echo chamber users is a major problem for both the right and the left. And it's getting worse as I see very, very little in the way of media literacy from people online these days. People literally just believe everything they see online so long as it's saying something they *want* to believe.
5
unaskthequestion Apr 1, 2026 +4
I've lived in the US my whole 66 years and I agree. Sometimes I wish I could have the perspective of a historian decades from now to fully understand what has happened.
4
nauticalsandwich Apr 1, 2026 +3
3 books that, to me, are a good trifecta for understanding what has happened to the US: *The Revolt of the Public* by Martin Gurri *The Culture of Narcissism* by Christopher Lasch *Postjournalism and the Death of Newspapers* by Andrey Mir

unaskthequestion Apr 1, 2026 +2
Thanks, always looking for new reading material. The book American Carnage by Tim Alberta is an excellent book about the rise of Trump in the republican party, full of quotes and original sources.

The educated landscape is very different as well. I went to a good high school and afterwards on to college and met a lot of incredible, impressive, thoughtful, passionate, more or less caring people. Fast forward to being out-competed for a good job and landing in the public sector in order to put food on my table, now i'm surrounded by uneducated MAGA people who thrive on ignorance and malice. There are different social landscapes within the country and ones who have lost the ability to think for themselves are very easily manipulated, but very proud and vocal to believe and repeat whatever narrative helps them feel better about themselves, usually by finding victims to their insecurities

2
Aggressive-Will-4500 Apr 1, 2026 +1
Sad, isn't it? And, just being honest, I'm not a fan of Iran's government; however, it just seems that the Republicans, in general, have been working for the better part of 50 years to turn the US government similar to the religious ethno-state that Iran currently has.

US has already open it, wants it open, doesn't care if it's open, OPEN IT OR WE OBLITERATE YOUR WATER, actually we're leaving, France is weak and also needs to fix it themselves. The strait is closed? I don't know anything about that. Got nothing to do with it. Are people _still_ talking about the.. stri- strait? Sheesh. Fake news needs to report better or I'll have them arrested

6
SilveryDeath Apr 1, 2026 +5
My favorite bit is this: > The U.S. will “consider” the offer only once the Strait of Hormuz is open and clear, Trump said on Truth Social. Art of the Deal. Iran will open the Strait and then we will "consider" the ceasefire offer. Why would Iran give up their best card in return for anything being 'considered', especially coming from Trump who has burnt them multiple times.
5
Casual-Speedrunner-7 Apr 1, 2026 +3
Clearly wants it open. They avoid airstrikes against Iranian oil infrastructure, eased sanctions on Iran & Russia to calm prices, and appear to be attempting gunboat diplomacy to reopen the strait. Rising gas prices, economic recession, etc. will all have political consequences at election time before a single boot on the ground. Reopening the strait won't return the market to the antebellum status quo. GCC infrastructure has been damaged. That might be why a month in they suddenly care less, or it might be a pressure tactic for a coalition. In any case, today they care and don't care.

Looking at the situation, it's Trump who is desperate for an exit and a face saving more than Iran . Trump imagined it would be another Venezuela type easy and swift operation but he got trapped in something turning into a long and painful conflict something he doesn't wants

3
ivanvector Apr 1, 2026 +3
Trump is a well-known compulsive liar and serial narcissist. Especially lately when describing things that other world leaders have supposedly said to him. This headline is irresponsible journalism. Fortunately the actual article fact-checks him in the fourth sentence: "Tehran denied that it requested a ceasefire". So he's just lying again, or whoever is whispering in his dementia-addled ear is.
3
oivaizmir Apr 1, 2026 +2
New president, as in 2024? "Masoud Pezeshkian is the ninth and current president of Iran, in office since July 28, 2024" He is a moderate, but I don't believe he has much power. But the Strait of Hormuz opened for a ceasefire while leaving the IRGC in control of Iran would be a victory for the Ayatollahs wouldn't it?

2
Dealan79 Apr 1, 2026 +2
Why does anyone outside the right wing propaganda bubble still publish stories that quote Trump as if his words mean anything? It's not just that he's an inveterate liar, or that he obviously uses public statements to fraudulently manipulate markets. It's that he demonstrably doesn't understand what's going on around him a good deal of the time. Report on what is actually happening using sources that have been vetted, not the ravings of a dementia-riddled con-man who should have had his keys taken away years ago. I get that he holds the most powerful office in the world and his actions have far ranging consequences, but his words are untrustworthy at best and delusional word salad at worst, and therefore have no business being construed as having any bearing on reality.

2
Paraxom Apr 1, 2026 +2
And now for the Iranian rebuttal where they have no idea what he's talking about
2
Fit-Ad-835 Apr 1, 2026 +4
If he is talking about pezeshkian, true, he is much less radical and more moderate. It was why people voted for him in the first place. It's not out of character for him to try to de-escalate. But, the thing is he has no power, and IRGC only answers to the supreme leader, and not him. So, even if he asks for a ceasefire, it doesn't mean anything.
4
moral_mortal Apr 1, 2026 +2
There was a ceasefire before this war, right? The same guy was president right? The old ayatollah had a religious decree forbidding nuclear weapons development right? What has changed? The old guy who was at death bed, had a decree is gone, bombed during negotiations. What do Iran gets out of it that ensure that they aren't bombed in next six months?
2
Fit-Ad-835 Apr 1, 2026 +2
He was elected by the people so the situation won't end up like this. His promised negotiations and stepping away from hard line policies. He also wanted to dampen the nuclear enrichment, which Ayatollah didn't like. Ayatollah famously said we never negotiate about it, and there won't be any war. Well, that stubborn fool was wrong and war did happen. You must understand that he is the one who draws the red line. If he doesn't allow it, there will be a agreement between iran and the west. These negotiations have been going for 20 years, even people understand that Mullahs don't want to give the enrichment away, yet people think reason negotiations failed was because no one wanted to make a deal in the west. Also, do you seriously believe the religious decree is something that you can rely on? You clearly don't know what a piece of shit these mullahs are. No one in the west knows apparently. Edit: i wanna give some examples. This poor president promised his voters that he would urban social media. Even before this internet shutdown, accessing YouTube, WhatsApp, Listnook, Twitter even Google play and really all social meda without VPN was impossible. You would think such a decision is possible for a president. He controls the department of communications right? Wrong, he was met with disagreement from higher ups.
2
ElTejon_TheDestroyer Apr 1, 2026 +1

Any headline or article that's based around "Trump Says" is useless and should be ignored.  He says lots of shit. Contradictory things, nonsensical things, things that are deadly serious in any other context but that there's no way to know if he'll follow through on.  Watch what this administration *does* because what it *says* is so often divorced from reality that it's as useful as a magic 8 ball in understanding what they're doing and why.
1

I believe whatever is opposite. US asked for a ceasefire as this whole thing has blown up spectacularly in their faces. Both literally and figuratively. US isolation is really playing off isn't it...
