Thanks maga. Thanks everyone who stayed home. Thanks third party voters. Thanks people who decided Gaza was more important than American despite Trump being a worse outcome. Thanks democratic leadership for giving us a shitty candidate that no one wanted. There are a lot of people can’t forgive.
13
meatballsandlingon2 4 days ago +4
I’m flabbergasted that people really thought Gaza would be saved by voting for another presidential candidate.
4
sharp11flat13 4 days ago +6
And especially *this* presidential candidate.
6
Seeker-N7 4 days ago +3
They knew it wasn't going to be saved. Kamala said the US would still support Israel instead of oppose, so the non-voters wanted to "send a message" to the Dems.
3
jert3 4 days ago +8
A big factor is also that many of the Republican voters never hear any actual news that isnt propaganda (news entertainment). If you only watched Tv, like many Americans, you don't even have much idea of what is even happening.

21
SkellyJelly33 4 days ago +27
It's something I guess. He's done some fucked up things but this has to be the most fucked up thing so far. We started this war by bombing a school of little girls, no thoughts paid to what exactly the end goal is, and now we're stuck spending billions on abother pointless Middle Eastern war that will accomplish nothing except making the people of Iran hate us even more. Oh and we're also f****** up the entire world economy in the process which is already kicking off a rube goldberg machine of chaotic economic suffering for countries who's farming and economy relies on trade from the straight if Hormuz.

When you're so miserable that you're actively trying to bring the end times. Meanwhile the 100m non-voters are all casual about letting them rule and shrugging it off. Both these groups have children and they just do not give a single f*** about their futures. The USA is a mental asylum and it ain't just MAGA that is batshit crazy.

MAGA? I would say all Americans as the non MAGA are very passive in dealing with it. Doing even less than the Canadians who have targeted MAGA businesses and even have apps to scan barcodes to see if MAGA linked. If Americans did this it would cause chaos and infighting in MAGA as money talks.

Timey16 4 days ago +51
It won't.  He is a symptom, not the cause, a symbol of America's societal rot. There will be someone else just like him the moment Democrats inevitably fail to get the cost of living and quality of life crisis under control... because doing so would require some TOUGH choices.
51
Water_Meat 4 days ago +11
IF the democrats get back in power, they'll be expected to fix everything in 4 years and if they fail, the blame for everything will be pushed to them. If they patch it up with temporary but nice looking tax breaks, then buying will fundamentally change except everything will get shittier faster... ..but if they look for harder long term fixes, they won't come into fruition during the election cycle, so people will say they did nothing. Republicans will get back in and either roll back the long term fixes before they've had a chance to do anything, or reap the rewards and take the credit. They spend 2 billion now to make 10 billion in 6 years, votes see "democrats cost us 2 billion for nothing!" Then vote republican. The 10 billion comes back, and the voters see "wow republicans put 10 billion back in the economy!" Never ending cycle of bullshit.

We choose to go to the Moon in this decade and do the other things not because they are easy, but because they are hard; Other things like shoveling shit out of our hallowed House and making it White and bright again are not for the faint of heart. Don't ask what this country can do for you, cause lets face it, it aint much, but what you can do for this country. There is no better Profile in Courage, a greater bravery than facing the fact that's we collectively shit the bed, that together we can wipe the US's ass and present a clean slate.

While US sailors eat shit food on ships that were sent there in freaking February (feels like years to us, must feel like a decade ago to them) and US military morale is at rock bottom having achieved a huge bunch of nothing for, well nothing. I'm not holding my breath for an epic photo of US soldiers planting the stars and stripes in victory over Iran as they did after the epic battle for Iwo Jima. No ticker tape parades - yet again - and only tired, bewildered and disillusioned troops "hopefully" returning home asap. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED????
9
sharp11flat13 4 days ago +3
Someone should remind these people that taking Iwo Jima resulted in nearly 26,000 American casualties, including ~6800 who died in action. And still they see it as an American success story.
3
smallcoder 4 days ago +3
It's always easy to celebrate a success, when you and/or your loved ones didn't risk your life to achieve it 😡 My sister's father was at Iwo Jima - my UK mum married an American GI after WW2 - and she said he never talked about it. He was a broken man, heavy drinking and my Mum divorced and returned to the UK after 3 years and married my Dad (who was an RAF fight pilot - she must have liked uniforms on men lol) fortunately for me or I would never have been born. My Dad and Mum would talk about WW2 - how my mum would drive ambulances to unload wounded off trains, talk matter of fact about air raids, while my dad would joke about his airfield being bombed and quietly about friends who didn't survive the Battle of Britain ☹️ They lived through different times - both my sister's dad and my dad and mum. I was lucky my parents were wonderful, but I shudder to imagine what my sisters dad experienced on Iwo Jima. It certainly wasn't a John Wayne movie, and at least they all knew there was a reason for the war and that it wasn't started on the whim of some over-indulged narcissist.

Because Americans LOVE Trump, and will beleive everything he says. The fact that he still is in office is proof.
16
SuperDoubleDecker 4 days ago +1
It's way more complicated than that. And most Americans do not love trump. It's a vocal minority.
1
sharp11flat13 4 days ago +4
> It's a vocal minority. And a voting minority. 1/3 of Americans stayed home on election day. They are as responsible for this mess as the 1/3 who voted for Trump.

I’m honestly over this horrible oversimplification. That implies cunning and intellect, not to mention discipline…none of which he has. All of this makes so much more sense when you understand he’s in over his head and he’s winging it.

trump has multiple people in his inner circle running financial services companies. Bessent, Lutnick, Burgum, Kushner, and Don Jr. They're the ones placing the bets while trump orders Stephen Cheung to shitpost about Iran on Truth Social. It doesn't take a genius to pull off this basic corruption.

How is this not maddening to MAGA!? This is the literal definition for insanity!!

maga is not a political movement, it’s a cult. that’s why broken promises doesn’t really bother the cult followers - they will always find an excuse to justify 🍊🐷’s actions.

MAGA want America destroyed so the Confederacy can "rise again" from the ashes. Anything that Trump does to destroy America is okay with them. They despise democracy, so anything he does to damage it is something they love.

Well that’s actually simple when you take into account the fact that this is the democrats fault. I forget why but tune into Fox News tonight and we’ll get the talking points together.

The echo chamber of "market manipulation is the reason for EVERYTHING" is unbelievably boring. In actuality, the talks between Iran and the USA in Pakistan (who is acting as mediator) are going nowhere. If the talks aren't going anywhere (and they probably won't), then the White House will believe Iran is feigning diplomacy as just a stalling tactic. Without an Iran-specific AUMF from Congress, the Trump administration has until May 1st to LEGALLY pursue the war. After which point, further military operations in Iran become illegal for the White House, without Congressional Authorization. It makes complete sense for Iran to stall for time until May 1st. It's what I would do if I were them. At which point, legally, the USA is supposed to withdrawal, wherein Iran will "declare victory." It's pretty hard to imagine a bunch of Congress voting for an Iran-specific Authorization for Use of Military Force with mid-terms right around the corner. In the talks in Pakistan, Iran's been demanding the right to enrich Uranium to any level, the removal of all sanctions placed on Iran, the right to continue to fund Hamas, Hezbollah, Iraq PMF, and basically every other Iranian hardliner position. Because the IRGC is in control of Iran, and they are pissed. ... I'm interested to see what happens in early May, and see if the US pulls out, or if they just ignore the War Powers Act. If the Trump administration just ignores the War Powers Act... I don't know if the US military would go along with Trump ordering them to continue on with a campaign in Iran.

And Republicans control the house and the senate so why won’t they get congressional approval?
4
Formal_Pangolin_3821 4 days ago +4
He kind of answered that. Not likely to happen because the midterm election is closing in, and war is always unpopular.
4
church-rosser 4 days ago +2
I don't necessarily accept all of your analysis, but i do believe that it is shortsighted to claim only or merely market manipulation is at play here. You make some excellent points about the May 1st timing vis a vis authorization, and it must be factoring internally at White House regardless of what heir Trumpf is doing and saying with his clown shoes and malignant narcissist's buffoonery.

I used to think “just wait for the midterms”, then I thought “what if the midterms are corrupted, like elections in other despotic countries are”. Now I just think it doesn’t matter what happens in the midterms because Trump doesn’t consult with or seek permission for anything he wants to do, and no one stops him. The only thing that matters to him and the people who vote down measures to curb his recklessness is maintaining power.

People forget quickly. He already started this bullshit in his first term. Remember North Korea. Threatening it. Calling Kim names, then being best bros and so on.. he was already demented back then but people still voted him back to the higher office of this country. That says a lot to the intellectual level of 70 millions Americans. Next if the democrats get back to power first thing is to invest highly in education or kids and adults!
