Honestly, I'm not sure if it matters in the end if he's a Russian asset or if he's just destroying our country out of his own unique blend of malice and stupidity. At the end of the day, we're going to be the ones to have to clean up his mess and restore our reputation.
I mean, it does matter if he's under the control of a foreign power, but what I mean is that his destroying of our country is happening regardless of the reasons why.

I cannot blame you for that whatsoever. It saddens me, but I understand. I hope that we can pull out of this downward spiral sooner as opposed to later.
I was going to put this in the previous comment, but I elected not to, but it's especially relevant in a reply to your comment:
Non-americans do not distinguish between Trump voters and the people who voted against him. Like it or not, our country elected this imbecile, and he represents us now. This will be a blemish on our already spotty history for the foreseeable future, and the fact that he continues to get away with his actions without consequences of any real kind shows that enough people in power are either supporting this madness or complicit in it, and much of the American people are apathetic to the situation.
According to the official US census site, only 65.3% of eligible voters voted in the 2024 US presidential election. [(source)](https://www.census.gov/newsroom/press-releases/2025/2024-presidential-election-voting-registration-tables.html) That means that 34.7% of eligible voters couldn't be bothered to take an hour or two out of one day of their lives to prevent this from happening. That statistic infuriates me.

Make Election Day a mandatory holiday.
16
catkraze1 day ago
+9
If I had the authority to do so, I would not only make it a mandatory holiday, I would make voting mandatory at risk of fine. I would also ban anyone from setting up tables outside polling locations, ban flyers from being handed out, enact measures to ensure strict confidentiality of votes, and take all other measures to ensure people feel safe when they vote and not pressured to vote one way or another in any way.
I would also enact measures to safeguard voting by mail. That way, people would have even less of an excuse not to vote.
I'm not sure if the problem is more accessibility or apathy, but if I had the ability to, I would eliminate every possible excuse not to vote.

Note that, the two teams on the hill are the same team behind the scene, and they don't represent us.

Rest assured, I am fully aware that Trump is just the festering wound oozing on the face of the disease-ridden body that is our country. He is a symptom of a larger issue that needs to be addressed. Unfortunately, addressing the issue is not simple, especially when a large number of the people in this country eagerly applaud every new atrocity. I can think of no quick solution to the situation we are in now. We just have to be vigilant, proactive, vocal, and to ensure we vote in every election.

If you had to describe what a President who is a Russian asset would do, Trump is doing it.
This was already apparent *before* the 2016 election so not sure when you realised but it has been obvious from the start.
And btw, it's already destroyed. Look at the elections now happening around the world where candidates are running a mile from anything attached to the United States, even far right candidates. Orban was the last person not to get the memo, and now there is no denying it.
And there's China in the background, quietly working away to fill the void.

Trump's base is so rabid that he's basically untouchable. He can say and do whatever he wants, and he will never get in trouble for it. He will die without facing a single consequence.
Hell, he and his administration could basically trash the freaking Pope and his (quite religious) base would take his side and tell the Pope to shut up.
Just kidding, that already happened. There is nothing that he could possibly do that will stick, they will continue to ignore the law and never be punished for it. I don't think there was any need to start this giant embarrassing war to distract people - I think this is all Trump honestly.

On the one hand, its certainly the kind of grift he would understand. On the other hand, he's kind of... openly and obviously non compis at this point. All that's left in his memory is shit-stained leftovers.
It seems fairly plausible that some of the equally terrible but less mentally compromised people in his circle could just tell him something they want said a minute or two before press time, he repeats it and forgets it, and that's a wrap.

So… did we get literally anything out of Trump’s interactions with Iran?
As best I can tell, Iran wants a nuke. Obama gives them some of their money back, and cuts some sanctions, and in exchange they give up their nuclear ambitions and agree to very thorough inspects to ensure they aren’t developing a nuke.
Then Trump comes into office, backs out of the deal and adds sanctions to Iran, so Iran has the ability to start to build nukes again. Then Biden becomes president and the story doesn’t really change or advance. Then Trump becomes president again and within 6 months he bombs Iran after claiming they were about to have a nuke, but now all their capabilities are destroyed, and they’re at square one.
Then, about 9 months later, Trump and Israel start bombing Iran, and Iran shuts the strait and bombs is neighbors that we have good relationships with. The price of oil skyrockets and we’re on a path to economic ruin. Then a ceasefire get announced and the strait is opened, but is almost immediately put at risk because Israel bombs Lebanon. We send Vance to negotiate and it falls apart in under a day. The strait recloses. Then we blockade the strait that Iran is also blockading. Then Lebanon and Israel enter a ceasefire and the strait reopens.
Now it seems like the issue is will Iran give up its nuclear ambitions, and what sanctions will America have to lift to get there… so basically our ideal spot to land is where Obama left Iran, except we just spent 10s of billions in military equipment, the rest of the world is really upset at us for not giving them a heads up about the war, raising their price of oil, and not even telling them what we want them to do (if anything), we’ve shown that you don’t have to beat the US military, you just have to get gas to $4/gallon, and we’ve established Iran as the de facto controller of the strait where before it was open international waters.
Genuinely, f*** MAGA for giving us Trump twice. I actually understand MAGA from the first term. America had made a lot of progress from the 2008 recession, but it was unequal. Adding into that the changing job market a lot of people who worked hard and did what they were supposed to got left behind by both parties and they had a guy who wasn’t really like any other politician, who appealed to them directly and publicly called out they got the short end of the stick and they went “well let’s try him out.” I get they’re generally not very political and didn’t know what warning signs to look for so they got tricked… but after the first term when nothing got better for them, they had no excuse for going back for seconds. They knew he would hurt people and they wanted him to. F*** MAGA

> WTI crude futures plunged more than 10% to below $84 per barrel on Friday, hitting near five-week lows after Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced that the Strait of Hormuz is now fully open to commercial traffic during the ceasefire period. The move boosted optimism that one of the most severe global energy supply disruptions in recent history may be easing. The statement followed earlier remarks from President Donald Trump, who said Iranian concessions could pave the way for a broader peace deal. Prices extended losses after reports that the US may release $20 billion in frozen Iranian funds in exchange for enriched uranium stockpiles, with further talks expected this weekend. The market is increasingly pricing in an end to the conflict’s impact on supply, after nearly 50 days of disruption that had choked off a significant share of global oil flows.
