>"In the meantime our great Military is Loading Up and Resting, looking forward, actually, to its next Conquest," Trump added. He ended the post, which was published near midnight, with a declaration: "AMERICA IS BACK!" WTF man. Looks like he isn't bored with forever wars. Who's next and how many more forever wars is it gonna be in the next few years?

What is really nuts is that in trumps first term, the maga crew were all “america first” “we can’t be the worlds police force” “no more forever wars” “Donald the dove” Now they have completely changed their tune. All while telling you “they had to do it because the democrats made them” It literally makes no sense. It’s like the old proverb “if you don’t stand for anything, you will fall for everything”

Yup. They're not "tricked by propaganda" they know it's a lie and don't care how obviously fake it is. If they all pretend to believe it, it functions as a "side in an argument on a controversial issue" to muddy the actual truth.

Well they killed a load of school kids, spiked the price of oil globally, pissed off all their allies, riled up a fundamentalist regime even more than before, lost a few planes, tanked the markets, threatened to commit war crimes, and made themselves even less popular with their supporters - are people not enjoying all this winning???
44

It's a stretch, but if you count using military action to bully the existing Venezuela regime into sidelining their allies and allowing the US to profit from their oil as a "conquest," then there's that, I guess.

So unnecessary wars were a problem if Dems did it. Policing the world was a problem if Dems did it. The prevailing argument was that it was prioritizing international issues over homeland issues - if Dems did it. Repubs are possibly the most spineless, hypocritical, and weak-minded individuals I've witnessed in my lifetime.

IceColdWasabi 2 days ago +131
They treat politics as a team sport instead of real things that impact real people and demonstrate real values. Then they all go to church on Sunday and tell one another sweet lies about how they're all good people who belong in heaven.
131
private_developer 1 day ago +36
Then, after church, they go to restaurants in massive groups for brunch, treat the staff like complete shit, and leave a fake twenty as a tip that tells them Jesus loves them.
36
SedatedJdawg 1 day ago +16
I hated working on Sundays when I was waiting tables. Between the high volume and the stress, it just wasn't worth it. They tip poorly while looking down on the "poor heathens" having to work on "God's day." In my experience, most restaurants will not hire you if you aren't available on Sundays because they rely so heavily on the church crowd. It is pure cognitive dissonance for them to act high and mighty when they are the primary reason these businesses stay open. They create the demand, yet they shame the staff for not being "good little church-going Christians." Lord knows they would be the first to complain if restaurants actually closed on Sundays. They just want to stuff their gullets and gossip while feeling superior to the people forced to serve them.

21
arryax8086 2 days ago +27
You know who are a real trip? The gay conservatives. A lot of them will tell you they are 'fiscal conservatives' while at the same time desperately trying to pull the ladder up before any of the various letters that come after them in the acronym can manage to get up. The irony alone is pretty astounding, but the willful blindness to what's going to happen to *them* the moment the rest of the conservative world gets rid of all the people they both agree need to be eliminated is shocking. At least irrational hate is understandable. Turning a blind eye to your own demise in order to support fiscal policies which are proven to not work is a level of self-destruction that I can't wrap my head around. Forget rationality *and* emotion. At this point, I just want a voter base that isn't determined to shoot its own face off.

It's a peculiar thing, but seems to always happen. Without fail, there will be a subset of people who simp for a group that specifically and loudly seeks to oppress or exterminate them. No idea why, but you see it in pretty much every situation.
7
thaddeusd 1 day ago +13
This. The root of the problem is modern conservative philosphy is rooted in postmodern relativism. If absolute truth, objective reality, and universal moral values do not exist in your worldview, then there is nothing to prevent you from doing anything to get your way except power and physical strength. Ironically, the philosophy professors that accused me of being a relativist when challenging their worldview, were conservative bastards who most likely voted for this shit.

325
Optimized_Orangutan 2 days ago +143
And they also conveniently leave out that we are still drone bombing people all over the world, but Trump overturned the rule that requires it to be reported. Obama gets shit on for his use of drones because he was honest about their use. Trump and Biden both used a lot of drone strikes, but were no longer required to report or count them.
143
Old_Ladies 1 day ago +114
Obama did about 563 drone strikes but Trump during his first term did over 2,200 drone strikes. Trump did more drone strikes in 2 years than Obama did in 8. Now the argument could be made that it was a new technology so naturally more would be made with time but Biden did less drone strikes with around 494 to 555 drone strikes. In 2022 there was only one announced drone strike. Just 5 months into Trump's second term Trump has done as many drone strikes than Biden did in 4 years.

One of Obama's early acts of President was to bring all of Dubya's 'War on Terror' spending into the actual budget, rather than having it done entirely seperately. This, of course, raised the deficit considerably and led to Republicans screaming about 'Democratic spending' despite nothing actually changing -- just properly accounting for the spending Bush had been doing for years.

"When you think about it, religion has never really had a big problem with murder. Not really. More people have been killed in the name of God than for any other reason. All you have to do is look at Northern Ireland, the Middle East, Kashmir, the Inquisition, the Crusades, and the World Trade Center to see how seriously the religious folk take 'Thou shalt not kill'. The more devout they are, the more they see murder as being negotiable. It's negotiable. You know? It depends on who's doing the killing and who's getting killed. Thou shall try real hard not to kill anyone, unless they pray to a different invisible man than you do." From George Carlin's revised two commandments

I'll probably get massively downvoted for this, because I'm going to piss off the majority of Listnook's userbase, but... I think Trump is an accurate representation of the average American (regardless of which side they are on). The ignorance about other countries, the unbridled national pride, the inability to ever admit being wrong, immediately attacking people with insults when questioned/doubted, the hypocrisy, etc, etc, are all traits I've noticed in most (not all) Americans that I've interacted with for a very long time. So, while disappointing, it's not surprising to me that he was voted in *twice*.
244
Bojangles1987 2 days ago +50
We have zero ground to deny it when people say Trump represents America. One time is a mistake, but tens of millions have voted for him 3 times, he's been elected twice, and he's getting away with everything he wants to do. Every time someone tries to pull the "American here, he doesn't represent us" card, it's basically like pulling out a picture of our own face and saying it's actually someone else's face. Trump very much represents America.

> Yeah, I'm sorry to say it but I'm starting to think that Don is the real face of the US, a face that many, many countries have known for at least 70 years... People really saw what Trump did from 2016-2020 and collectively decided “Trump wasn’t *that* bad, I’m not gonna bother to vote to keep make sure he’s not president again, it was *fine*.” I’m starting to wonder if the collective brain cells we lost from COVID made us dumb enough to not keep Trump out of office for a second term.

The problems are way older than Donnie. Your whole system is flawed. If the Dems wanted, they could have changed many things to make the system more robust and prevent a rogue president from doing what he does. But every single time they held the presidency and both houses they did nothing. It doesn't begin or stop with the political system, it also involves the media landscape and so many other things. The reps, primarily maga are the ones pulling the strings now for the worst outcomes, but Dems were happy and eager to pull the very same strings knowing perfectly well that the system is weak and undemocratic in many ways. So, while the reps are certainly worse, the Dems are far from being without guilt. At the moment it actually looks as if the US might actually be worse for the world as dominating world power than China. It's so absurd that I write this without any thought of satire in my mind. Nothing is impossible ATM. War with Denmark for Greenland, which either results in a war with the rest of the EU or the collapse of the EU and/or the collapse of the US via civil war. Attack on Cuba. Nukes on Iran. You name it. All possible. Although I think nukes are less likely than a war with us because having to resort to nukes vs Iran is a clear confession of weakness, which donnie will never voluntarily allow to happen. Yes, that orange is the main actor now, but the disease is ingrained in the US society of superiority

Yep its eyes opening really. I have to admit the propaganda got to me. Americans aren't the good guys or at least they aren't anymore. The respect they had has faded away. Such a joke now. Can't be trusted with that much firepower.

A Soviet and an American are sitting in a bar. The American says “I really admire your country’s propaganda.” The Soviet replies “oh thank you, but it’s nothing compared to American propaganda.” The American says “oh, we don’t have propaganda.”

We've been riding high on WWII propaganda since we got involved, that's basically where it all comes from. A large portion of the population still believes the world owes us for it or something, or that we deserve eternal respect for it. People who weren't even close to being alive during.

It’s incredible. The united states emerged from world war 2 as the most powerful nation on earth and then spent the next 50+ years hollowing itself out. Instead of investing in its people the way other developed nations did, it weakened worker protections, let wages stagnate, made healthcare unaffordable, treated education as a privilege, allowed housing costs to spiral out of reach, buried generations in student debt, and took citizen's voice away by giving corporations enormous political influence. The rich took the golden goose, killed it, and convinced the uneducated and hungry to cheer while they ate. And now, here we are, with a madman pedophile president who's spent [$45 billion](https://iran-cost-ticker.com/) (and counting) on an unauthorized war with no consequences.

"**Harry S. Truman** holds the record for the lowest presidential approval rating in Gallup polling history, with a **22% approval rating** in February 1952.  **His low rating was driven by the unpopular Korean War, a sluggish economy, labor disputes, and allegations of corruption within his administration**." By the books!

A large portion of morons are brainwashed by 24 hour propaganda networks. Networks that were only made possible by Ronald Reagan, and the Republican party, removing the laws we had that kept news from becoming what it is.

“Conquest” here meaning disrupting an uneasy, but stable peace, f****** shit up and making it worse for everyone involved, without achieving anything in the process. Then complaining when the people you’ve spent the last 12 months insulting refuse to help clean up the mess. What’s the next “conquest”? Reigniting the Korean War?
