What peace talks, Iran just said ceasefire is over lol

FuguSandwich 2 days ago +414
Not to mention, before this war even started Iran said to take back Kushner and Witkoff and send Vance. They literally see Kushner and Witkoff as the bad faith negotiators who were "negotiating" when the bombs began to drop.

CTQ99 2 days ago +137
Kushner also has no official government position. He shouldn't be around any of these things period.
137
Black_Moons 2 days ago +11
Isn't it extremely illegal to negotiate on behalf of the US government if your not a US government official?
11
joshrealer 2 days ago +11
Add it to the other million illegal stuff done by the administration.

Yes. Family friend and regular visitor to their home. This is all public information.
76
FuzzyMcBitty 2 days ago +15
“Grew up with” usually refers to people who were children together.  I would not say that I grew up with Bob because he was the father of one of my friends.  I think I understand your meaning now, though. Thanks for clarifying.

Vance isn't in on the grift...
15
meechmeechmeecho 2 days ago +31
Depends on how you view the argument that JD Vance is Peter Thiel’s handpicked white house representative. Based on their well documented connection, he very likely is in on the grift. He’s just not Jewish.
31
manefa 2 days ago +11
Vance believes in us isolationism. Remember when maga was all about that? He’s just being quiet about it so as not to upset dear leader.
11
Dry_Departure_7813 2 days ago +4
Vances only ideology is "opportunism" the man is an empty shell willing to fill himself with whatever bullshit he thinks will get him another rung up the ladder. Its why he was an ardent critic of trump and now he licks his boots.
4
Reno_Cash 2 days ago +2
Vance probably doubled his net worth today when oil dropped and stocks bounced and JD knew all of that. Just speculating.

They're restricting it temporarily, and they're saying it's over *if* Israel continues to attack Lebanon.
34
MessMaximum5493 2 days ago +54
We all know Israel doesn't want the ceasefire keep your hopes down lol
54
DebentureThyme 2 days ago +26
Oh my other comments make it clear I'm well aware they don't want a ceasefire.  Israel sees an opportunity to seize parts of southern Lebanon, an opportunity that will slip through their grasp should they be forced into ending hostilities and backing off entirely. Israel doesn't care what it does to world stability, what war it might fully ignite.  They see something they want and they're going to try to take it. The actual survivors of the Holocaust would be horrified at what their children and children's children have decided is acceptable.   Israel has a right to exist (maybe they didn't when it was founded like 75ish years ago, but too much time and settlement has passed to just say millions and millions should just go elsewhere now). But that doesn't mean they have a right to take new lands, treat other people as inhuman, commit war crimes and crimes against humanity.  Their leadership has got to go, corrupt as all f***.
26

Western countries need to sanction Israel like they did with Russia but we all know they wont
20
vonGlick 2 days ago +2
Yes but the problem is US. They will not join and it will cause even more tensions in Europe-US relations.
2

Familiar_Bathroom793 2 days ago +10
I wonder if it’s because they know that Vance doesn’t support more wars in the Middle East.
10
DrManhattan_DDM 2 days ago +13
It’s because they’ve seen many times that Trump will lash out at anyone he perceives as taking attention away from him. Can’t let someone else get credit for completing the negotiations successfully, even if it means sabotaging the talks.
13
PlasticWolverine6037 2 days ago +2
Nah it’s because they know the people who put him in that position are the real rulers of America
2

__Yakovlev__ 2 days ago +66
It's not about safety. Vance has fallen out of grace and is now being punished by trump for his disobedience by keeping him away from the important stuff. Basically nullifying his chance of ever becoming president after trump kicks the bucket.
66
The_Bitter_Bear 2 days ago +23
I've been too focused on well... everything else. What happened to cause Vance to make it to his shit list?  Not that I'm upset. The more infighting the better.

Anytime Vance is talked about as being the next President, Trump gets pissed off
31
Putrid_Roll_5524 2 days ago +19
Republicans are so stupid they don’t even realize they’ve invested all their eggs in the Trump basket. Not the Trump movement basket but TRUMP. He won’t ever name a successor unless it’s his direct family, and the closer we get to midterms the more they NEED someone to be the clear leader. After that it’s too late. Are you going to piss off the active president? Are you going to fall in line while the world tries to leave it behind? And all republicans have to decide that within what’ll be two years now? Yeah…
19
__Yakovlev__ 2 days ago +7
That's true but it's not what I was referring to. See Vance was very much against the Iran war and wasn't really willing to publicly support trump so now he's being punished for it.
7
__Yakovlev__ 2 days ago +21
Well the news only started coming out today I think, although the signs were already visible from the start. See, Vance was the one in trump's inner circle that was against the Iran war, and he also did not publicly support it, there by going against the dear leader.  He tried very hard to avoid any questions because he knew he was the chosen one (by thiel) to take over after trump. But he was also smart enough to know that was definitely not going to happen if he came out in support of the war, while publicly going against trump also wasn't an option  Anyway trump caught on regardless, just like he would always already get annoyed when people referred to Vance as his successor, and now has him do stupid loyalty tests while keeping him away from actual meaningful stuff that would allow him to grow his influence. Basically he'd love to get rid of him but afaik it's pretty much impossible to get rid of your vp. That is on top of the already existing mentality of not wanting to fire people because it would be seen as "weakness" and "surrendering to the evil media". Hence why he didn't fire hegseth after signal gate, and why he keeps praising Bondi in public despite talking about her differently in private. It's also why Bondi, noem and bovino (spelling?) were "promoted away" as opposed to straight up fired.
21
The_Bitter_Bear 2 days ago +5
Thanks! That managed to be entirely off my radar.  F****** flooding the zone. Unfortunately it does work.

GayMormonPirate 2 days ago +12
Vance is and has been very much anti-war, anti-foreign intervention at all and isolationist. He absolutely does not want to be associated with this 'excursion' at all. It's pretty apparent that there have been leaks from his office that have been tailored to make it clear that Vance does not agree with any of this but is heeding the president's directive. The president doesn't like that Vance isn't rah rah about invading Iran and wants to ice him out of it. I think Vance is perfectly happy to oblige.
12
BeyondCraft 2 days ago +2
Didn't Vance say something like "Ukraine war is not our war but let's bomb hell out of Iran" before election?
2
Clean_Mix_5571 2 days ago +2
Tbf I feel like Vance overstepping as a VP in that infamous presser can backfire in 2028. Rubio is a much more cleaner choice and should ideally be the best candidate for 2028

Marco’s chances at POTUS are shot. He never recovered from the water drinking moment and then Trump calling him little Marco didn’t help. This whole Secretary of State turn could have helped him but now he’s gonna have to do so much revisionist history. The ironic thing is pretty much anyone who’s gotten inner circle of Donnie has probably peaked politically wherever they are right now. (I believe many consider Senator & Governor to be largely lateral positions but personally I think Sen> Gov especially in places where Governor has term limits) which for many of them is fine, they’re in for the grift so mission accomplished I guess. Even some of the non inner ppl are gonna be radioactive for a while.
5
PackLost8535 2 days ago +2
Reminder that our current president bragged about grabbing women by their pussies and won election even amid that. If someone can succeed with that on their record, I think a candidate can weather some name calling too. This is not an endorsement of Marco or an indication of how likely I think his chances are. Just that all things are possible in American politics of late.

Sounds like it sets up a coup opportunity; push Vance to far, he may try to get that promotion early
2
whichwitch9 2 days ago +14
I think it's very important for him to attend, as a show of seriousness on the part of the US government. Partially not joking, tho. If you want Iran to send a high official, you have to send a high official. The Vice president literally exists exactly for situations like this- he's technically less important than Trump
14
PlateNo4868 2 days ago +3
You are correct, but it wouldn't shock me if Trump even understood this. He has a very small view of the world. He probably sees these are business meetings, rather then actual serious talks with potential consequences at the end.

Vance was the fiercest in the inner circle in opposing this war and he was proven right. I have no idea if TACO is that kind of man but he may be denying him more influence. Otherwise it is the Israeli's request.
64
wowzerspowzers 2 days ago +150
The narrative that Vance was the fiercest in the inner circle opposing this war is obviously PR from Vance's team to set him up to say he was against it when he runs for President. Don't believe it and don't repeat it. You're just giving him good PR that he doesn't deserve it. He owns this alongside the rest of them.

Vance's "Fierceness" on display in the Yemem Signal chat that they fucked up? >Three percent of US trade runs through the suez. 40 percent of European trade does. There is a real risk that the public doesn’t understand this or why it’s necessary. >The strongest reason to do this is, as POTUS said, to send a message. I am not sure the president is aware how inconsistent this is with his message on Europe right now. There’s a further risk that we see a moderate to severe spike in oil prices. >**I am willing to support the consensus of the team and keep these concerns to myself.** But there is a strong argument for delaying this a month, doing the messaging work on why this matters, seeing where the economy is, etc. "I don't agree with it but if you guys all want to I guess we should do it!" My 5yo daughter has more of a backbone fighting for the 3 cookies instead of just 2....
6
Chemical-Ideal1 2 days ago +6
I’m not sure much of the reporting points to him being the “fiercest” opponent of war with Iran. Most of what I’m reading sounds more like someone indecisive or maybe trying for a more moderate approach. If you remember Signalgate, Vance had kind of a wishy-washy “are we sure?” attitude about bombing the Houthi’s. He might be against it, but doesn’t want to get iced out like Gabbard.

*However, Iran has said the war will not be over until its 10-point plan is finalized. The Iranian plan would allow for an opening of the strait, along with guarantees that the country would not be attacked again, all sanctions would be lifted, and Israel would halt its attacks in Lebanon.* israel has never behaved in situations like this before and no reason to think they will start now. this isnt their agreement and wouldnt be their agreement. theyll keep f****** up and doing what they want.

It would be pretty crazy if Iran took out Vance. Who would become VP?

Maybe it's as simple as Trump doesn't want Vance to gain any glory from successful talks.
