I don't exactly mind the concept of communication via social media. In theory it's a good way to reach your citizens by using the platforms that they stay connected to.
The real problem is that everyone, from government officials to the media to the general populace, treats social media as a big gray area for some reason. The lack of consensus on whether to take it seriously allows people like Trump to play it both ways.
They can say whatever they want and treat their statements as either "official" or "internet talk" interchangeably depending on their audience and how much pushback they're getting. This allows them to set a direction without ever truly committing.
So in effect, what *should* be a good method of communicating policy widely and quickly has become a tool used for the express purpose of pushing boundaries as far as they will bend. Ideally congress would codify some set of policies to remove the ambiguity, but I'm not holding my breath for that to happen anytime soon.
70

How about this, you can post on social media whatever you want, but if you're an elected politician and speaking as such, you should be considered under oath of perjury when making a statement.

There is a tool that is supposed to be used by government employees it's called GovDelivery. It's where policy is supposed to be shared. Donald doesn't use it. Its meant to be administered by a team and content is vetted for legal accuracy... As it should be... THIS is the biggest problem, no doubt.

It's all so ridiculously sus. Somebody has something on him, or he thinks they do, and it's so bad that he's willing to start a war in the Middle East in order to push Epstein out of the news cycle.

FALSE:
Israel has acted independently plenty of times, even when Washington wasn’t on board.
Examples:
**• Operation Opera:** Condemned by the U.S. and the UN at the time
**• Operation Orchard:** Carried out without international approval
**• Six-Day War:** Israel launched a preemptive strike despite U.S. caution
**• Suez Crisis:** The U.S. actually pressured Israel to withdraw afterward
And I thought only the Sith spoke in absolutes… but here we are.

A lot of the terrible things that Israel's doing right now are a **direct result** of their proper multiparty system.
Netanyahu's generated enough ill-will among other mainstream parties that he's been forced into coalition with all of the religious and horribly right-wing parties. There are 5 parties in the coalition, and Likud is **by far** the furthest left. Yeah.
There's a decent chance that Bibi would still be seeking endless wars in a more reasonable coalition, but it's very likely that there would be far fewer new Settlements in the West Bank, and that the IDF would be treating Palestinians better in both the West Bank and Gaza. There probably wouldn't be talk about occupying southern Lebanon, either, even if there was still discussion about attacking.
The US's political system needs some reform, and you're right that multiparty systems are generally better, but the situation is too funny to not point out.

I assume you're referring to pressuring Israel to withdraw from the West Bank. You may be overstating the impact of international pressure on South Africa, but I support it regardless.
If, on the other hand, you're referring to incorporating 15 million Palestinian Arabs into what used to be Israel to become a demographic and political majority subordinating a Jewish minority, then you're at best an idiot if not a murderous hater. Putting aside all of the vast differences in South African and Israeli/Palestinian political histories and systems of governance, one only has to take stock of the October 7 attack and Israel's brutal response to it to understand that these two groups of people shouldn't be forced to live in the same state any time soon.

I think it would be odd if Israel doesn't break the ceasefire in dramatic fashion. Setting aside Bibi Netenyahu's precarious political situation, it's hard to imagine that any Israeli leadership would tolerate the idea that the United States could unilaterally prohibit Israel from 'defending' itself.
They almost have to keep attacking now, to deny the implication that Israel has no independence, and is only a proxy for the United States.
Like, the United States probably could have stopped Israel attacking by negotiating in back channels outside public view. But prohibiting another nation to do something solely by social media post? That's not going to work.

Look, Trump has completely lost the plot. This will be another humiliating moment for him and probably seal the deal on an attempt to oust him.
What will be interesting is seeing Peter Thiel and the like moving to move Vance into position. At that point, either the vise on authoritarianism tightens, or it all falls apart and they devour themselves. Trump may be in on it but if he's he's not, I think we'll see a compete meltdown as his handlers let him completely off the leash. He'll still blame Biden, somehow, I'm sure.
On the other end, the Left is still rudderless and unless someone seizes the conch shell, the more moderate side (pro-corporate side) takes off and we're all screwed, but in the slightly longer run.
3
Zagmit1 day ago
+2
I agree with you that Peter Thiel and other conservative elites might try to push JD Vance into position to replace Trump, but I feel it's a misunderstanding on their part of how Trump's cult of personality works. I don't think there's anyone currently capable of replacing Trump, though I think they'll all try to posture that way.
The left might seem rudderless, but it does seem to have a lot of momentum directed against Donald Trump, even if that energy isn't coming from the Democratic party, so much as the party is buoyed by a grassroots effort against Trump.
I suspect that both the Democratic and Republican parties haven't reckoned with how unpopular they really are, or how misaligned their platforms are with the average American. Really makes me wonder what will happen once Trump isn't a focal point for American politics.

Israel is the world’s sixth largest arms exporter, ahead of UK. Even Israel’s GDP per capita is higher than UK. Germany just paid Israel 5bn Euro to get Arrow-3 missile protection systems.
It’s a remarkably resilient and advanced economy.
