The experts are right, he really doesn't have the authority.

jwr1111 Mar 31, 2026 +19
He is in a panic over the midterms and is willing to do anything to stay in power and avoid talking about the Epstein files. Worst president in history.

MistyClit Mar 31, 2026 +13
Exactly, he doesn’t.
13
Machiavvelli3060 Mar 31, 2026 +10
That's right. Voting is handled at the state level.
10
NotThatHandsomePete Mar 31, 2026 +7
Do we really need experts for this one?
7
LabRat_X Mar 31, 2026 +3
Since when did that stop him? 😞
3
Jimbobsupertramp Apr 1, 2026 +3
Does he though if no one actually stops him?
3
westgazer Apr 1, 2026 +2
I mean I too can write any number of things on a piece of paper and sign my name nobody can stop me but nobody has to listen to me, either.

He's going to try and use the USPS to screen ballots against a list of citizens. Where is there a f****** list of citizens?
41
ThisOneFuqqs Mar 31, 2026 +35
Everything about this is illegal. The USPS can't just seize mail without a warrant, based on some arbitrary list from the Federal government
35
Blackthorn79 Mar 31, 2026 +14
I think everyone is missing the bigger picture, they want a list of citizens and where they live. If that gets screened by the USPS against everyone who gets mail, you now have a second list that goes right into Miller's hands for his ICE goons. This is how you get door to door mass round ups.

The Constitution clearly spells out that the States get to determine how they run their own elections. Lawsuits from every Blue State in 3... 2... 1...
30
Slippery-ape Mar 31, 2026 +2
They will never make it to SCOTUS in time
2
Due_Bluebird3562 Mar 31, 2026 +12
The Scotus isn't the end all be all. An injunction would postpone any implementation of this anyway and the Supreme Court can't really do shit about that.
12
Darkeyescry22 Mar 31, 2026
SCOTUS could stay the injunction
0
Due_Bluebird3562 Mar 31, 2026 +2
I don't see why they'd do that here. They didn't on the 2025 version of a similar EO did they? Doing it now would be a pretty blatant mask off moment even for this SC.
2
Darkeyescry22 Mar 31, 2026 +1
I’m not saying they will. Just pointing out that they could.
1
Sweetpants88 Apr 1, 2026 +1
The mask has been off for a bit.
1
Sugar74527 Mar 31, 2026 +3
Blue states need to pass legislation giving people paid time off to vote and make election days a holiday. Do both!!!
3
Dr-Mumm-Rah Apr 1, 2026 +1
This, because it would piss off the GOP and MAGA crazies so bad. It will be hilarious watching them try to spin this logical. "Lazy, unemployed, unpatriotic voter handout day."
1
AquaMoonCoffee Mar 31, 2026 +1
This. They go to recess in 90 days, even if they agree to hear it it will almost definitely get scheduled for a hearing the next SCOTUS session which doesn't begin until 30 days prior to the midterms which at that point everything will already have been put in place to do this. If SCOTUS rules against this a week or two prior to midterms they will go through with this anyway as Trump is virtually immune from legal action per prior SCOTUS 2024 ruling in his favor.

daizzy999 Mar 31, 2026 +9
"A DOJ official admitted in court last week that the department plans to share that data with the Department of Homeland Security, to run it through the so-called SAVE system to search for noncitizens." Yikes, you'd think those 'dont tread on me folks' would be hella mad at the government gathering personal data for a big ol' 'list'.
9
twigsmoke Mar 31, 2026 +1
It has to click with them first but yeah once it does it won't be good for the local politicians
1
Thor_2099 Apr 1, 2026 +5
So Republicans got massively irate about a student loan repayment plan that had lower payments. But are just fine and dandy with this ridiculous overstep of the executive? Typical illogical bulshit from the party of liars, rapists, and hypocrites
5
Teddy_RGB Mar 31, 2026 +9
Not an expert: He lacks the authority. A high school student can tell you this
9
PlsSuckMyToes Mar 31, 2026 +8
Dont think we need experts to tell us he cant have the federal govt tell the states who they are allowed to let vote in their elections
8
reddittorbrigade Mar 31, 2026 +3
Donald Trump is a convicted criminal. Everything he does is illegal. He was born that way.
3
OrganizedChaos1979 Apr 1, 2026 +3
Why do we need lawsuits if we can just ignore it, anyway? There's no legal way to enforce it. It's not law, no matter how much he wants it to be.
3
black_flag_4ever Mar 31, 2026 +2
If anything the GOP was doing was actually popular they’d fight to make voting easier.
2
Rare_Paper4473 Mar 31, 2026 +6
And another cope article of- "He can't do that! It'd be such a violation of a precedent that- And then what? If nobody enforces the law, was it ever really illegal?
6
BigHungryFlamingo Mar 31, 2026 +13
It’s going to be challenged in court next week probably. This has been on the agenda for awhile and it’s no surprise.  They’ll try to drag it out but, this is pretty desperate, even by Trump standards. And the midterms are state-run and Congress doesn’t have to certify them.  Their best bet is to try to force USPS not to deliver ballots to certain people but that would greatly risk their own electoral chances too.
13
ZonghZonghZongh Mar 31, 2026 +2
>Their best bet is to try to force USPS not to deliver ballots to certain people but that would greatly risk their own electoral chances too.  We need specific legal challenges to this aspect too, but in no way can a president mandate how the USPS conducts its operations. They can't order the nation's preeminent **independent** agency to do anything. Only Congress gets that power.
2
Due_Bluebird3562 Mar 31, 2026 +1
A pretty genius idea another commentator had was simply issuing numbers on the envelopes instead of names. Not that Trump even has a big enough database (since most states told him to f*** off) without voter rolls anyway. This entire thing is destined to fail on that premise alone.
1
Slow-Recipe7005 Mar 31, 2026 +5
In this case, all we have to do is ignore the order.
5
Imaginary_Hamster847 Mar 31, 2026 +3
Although I totally agree with your general point, it's also just practically not possible. What does it even mean? DHS is going to get a list of any name that sounds vaguely foreign in every state, and then USPS is going to stop every vaguely foreign sounding person from getting mail? Based on what? State voting rolls? It's not just illegal, it's just kind of nonsensical. There's no possible way to operationalize this.

Just another anti-democracy Tuesday for this wanna be king. Another waste of tax payer dollars in court at some point. This pile of garbage wastes our money like it’s just a tap he turns on and lets it run and meanwhile here it Florida they are naming roads and an airport after him. What f****** world are we living in. I so crave for the days of Obama and Biden where if nothing else they weren’t violating our constitution and democracy every single day.
2
Different-Produce870 Mar 31, 2026 +1
they know. they are going to try anyway
1
0utlaw-t0rn Mar 31, 2026 +1
Tampering with and intentionally not delivering ballots is a felony in every(?) state.
1
Thorrbane Apr 1, 2026 +1
Is that state law, so it'd be state charges and not federal ones?
1
0utlaw-t0rn Apr 1, 2026 +2
States are in charge of how elections run in their state. They are state crimes The states are also in charge of maintaining voter lists/registries. This EO effectively transfers that power to the federal government, which EOs cannot do. EOs cannot change laws. They are not law
2
NeoMegaRyuMKII Mar 31, 2026 +1
Since when has lack of authority mattered to him?
1
SnooPineapples6424 Mar 31, 2026 +1
The only thing he has the authority to do is write executive orders whenever baby has a hissy fit.
1
SnooPoems7408 Mar 31, 2026 +1
yeah duh, he lacks any authority, now we wait 5 months for a court to strike it down
1
oneseason2000 Apr 1, 2026 +1
"Trump signs a new executive order on voting. Experts say he ~~lacks the authority~~ ***signed another unconstitutional order***" >But election experts said the order was unconstitutional and prominent voting rights attorneys quickly threatened to sue to block the order from going into effect.

prestocoffee Apr 1, 2026 +1
He is not a dictator yet he tries to be one. Get him out of power ASAP.
1
Presently_Absent Apr 1, 2026 +1
Realists say "doesn't matter any more"
1
kevendo Apr 1, 2026 +1
He lacks authority and can be safely ignored. Truly, do not obey him. He had no power to do this.
1
Sweetpants88 Apr 1, 2026 +1
It all makes sense now. He has the DHS "create the list" of allowed voters. That list will exclude people photographed at protests, out spoken about the administration, black, Hispanic, women.
1
Sea-Rip3902 Apr 1, 2026 +1
He doesn’t control the union states.
1
MidLifeCrysis75 Apr 1, 2026 +1
You don’t have to be an expert to understand states control elections. F*** off.
1
R67H Apr 1, 2026 +1
Lay people agree with the experts, if they read our constitution.
1
Abhoth52 Apr 1, 2026 +1
States Rights ... now go away little man
1
Western-Property-443 Apr 1, 2026 +1
He does not have the authority for anything he is doing.
1
WavyGravy04 Apr 1, 2026 +1
He also lacks control of his bowels
1
Western_Ad_8028 Apr 1, 2026 +1
I mean understandable he wants to ensure that only "registered" voters vote but this can easily be abused
1
ttd24 Apr 1, 2026 +1
Yeah he’s just hoping this goes to the Supreme Court and they side with him. Legally speaking yes this should get struck down so quick but this is the worst court we’ve ever had
1
Wentil Apr 1, 2026 +1
The Executive Branch of the Federal Government has no authority to affect State Voting Procedures.
1
Battle44Sis Apr 1, 2026 +1
Trump doesn't care. He just likes signing his name.
1
twrodriguez Apr 1, 2026 +1
Oh for the Epsteinth time.... Come on guys
1
Curious-Emu3894 Apr 1, 2026 +1
So much for states rights, MAGA? lol f****** Trump and what’s left of his moron cult are the dumbest of the dumb.
1
Adderall_Rant Mar 31, 2026 +1
Sooo, about those Epstein Files
1
Prayer_Warrior21 Mar 31, 2026
These f****** headlines are so f****** trash.

Toadfinger Mar 31, 2026 -2
Does any of it even matter? When Trump loses Congress in November, he'll never allow them to be certified and sworn in!
-2
Smaynard6000 Mar 31, 2026 +5
Trump doesn't get to decide that Congress doesn't exist.
5
Toadfinger Mar 31, 2026 -3
The rules mean nothing to Trump. He still has his special military outfit in DC. His own personal Gestapo.
-3
Due_Bluebird3562 Mar 31, 2026 +1
His "special military outfit" are basically civilians. ICE is about as well trained as your average Jr. police department.
1
Toadfinger Mar 31, 2026 +1
It's National Guardsmen from all over the country.
1
Due_Bluebird3562 Mar 31, 2026 +1
>It's National Guardsmen from all over the country. There are 400k NG. Yeah... that's not gonna help him much when a bunch of pissed off Americans want him gone. The NG are also basically just civilians albeit much better training than ICE has. Their training is primarily in descalation though.
1
Toadfinger Mar 31, 2026 +1
It doesn't take much force and power to neutralize Congress. This is why they're there. Trump's claim was a high crime rate in DC. Even though the crime rate was at an all time low. Dude we're in a dictatorship!
1
Due_Bluebird3562 Mar 31, 2026 +1
>It doesn't take much force and power to neutralize Congress. This is why they're there. Trump's claim was a high crime rate in DC. Even though the crime rate was at an all time low. >Dude we're in a dictatorship! You do realize that Congress doesn't HAVE to meet in DC...
1
Toadfinger Mar 31, 2026 +1
You do realize that Trump's Traitor Troupe doesn't have to trumpet their intentions.
1
westgazer Apr 1, 2026
Then how come he hasn’t just up and dissolved Congress? Rules don’t matter and he can just do whatever at a whim right? Oh, no?
0
Toadfinger Apr 1, 2026 +1
The GOP has the majority in Congress at the moment. He's not that stupid.
1
westgazer Apr 1, 2026 +1
The whole just declaring shit by EO is founded on the belief that he doesn’t need Congress for anything, though. It is why he is doing his temper tantrum EO on mail in voting since he couldn’t get Congress to pass the disenfranchisement bill. The reality is rules actually still do kinda matter.
1
Toadfinger Apr 1, 2026 +1
If/when Trump loses in November is when the rule book gets shredded. When he tries it, he'll still need some of his cult to support him. Which is why he won't do it now.
