I doubt Carr even knows what was meant to be inaccurate - he’s literally just saying this for his Audience of One.

Nothing was inaccurate it just is at odds with the WH spin of turning surrender into a victory.

I live in Asia so not updated—have they really? My MIL only watches CNN for international news. I’ve gotta warn her if it’s gonna be like Fox.

CNN World has generally retained much of its credibility while CNN US has suffered over the past decade +. I would not necessarily expect to see much change on the CNN International side (but it is worth being concerned over).

BBC much better choice.
9
exoriparian 5 days ago +7
Yes, but also sketchy and very lopsided when it comes to war. Just the other day BBC published an "Iranian source" that said he was ok with the country being nuked and completely flattened. Then they swapped it out with something less inflammatory without any editorial comment or note. Deliberately fanning the flames of nuclear war. [https://novaramedia.com/2026/04/07/bbc-under-fire-for-quoting-iranian-ok-with-being-nuked-by-trump/](https://novaramedia.com/2026/04/07/bbc-under-fire-for-quoting-iranian-ok-with-being-nuked-by-trump/)

It's currently still in process. But I would also assume CNN will not be worth watching in a year or so.
6
exoriparian 5 days ago +1
Yes, you can catch them in a lie any given night. Most of the time it's just misleading phrasing or the focus of the conversation will be spinning from the real issue, but they flat out lie as well. It might be easier to try to get your folks to at least adopt a better source, like Democracy Now or Zeteo, if they won't give CNN up. Then they can see the lies for themselves.
1
Awkward_Cheetah_2480 5 days ago +8
Yes, i was just replying to the oop, who said the buyout was in danger. No, it is not.
8
ye_olde_green_eyes 5 days ago +3
Nah, it'll be slower and more subtle to start like what happened to the Op Ed in the WSJ. Even today not all of it is Fox News like. It's definitely different since the buyout.

>President Donald Trump fired off a seething threat against CNN Tuesday night in response to its reporting Iran had claimed a "great victory" over the U.S. following the president's announcement to delay his ceasefire deadline by two weeks. >Trump had originally given Iran until 8 p.m. ET Tuesday to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, warning a refusal would mean a "whole civilization will die." >Around 90 minutes before that deadline, Trump and the White House released statements saying the U.S. and Iran had agreed to negotiate an end to hostilities that would include the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the suspension of fighting for two weeks. >Following the announcement, CNN published a post to its online live blog detailing the Iranian response. >"Iran says it has achieved a great victory and forced the United States to accept its 10-point plan, according to a statement from Iran's Supreme National Security Council report by Iranian state media," the post read.

How is this not a major victory for Iran’s corrupt government? The people in Iran would be out in the street celebrating if it wasn’t for their government threatening to kill them if they celebrate in the street.

I mean it’s a loss for everyone but a bigger loss for the USA. Basically Iran has a better deal now than before.

Wild that we as a society here in America have allowed 1 man to absolutely destroy any trust in media with his “fake news” any time someone reports on something he doesn’t like. He’s literally trying to take over everything we consume. Literally got rid of PBS!!! Like what?! I understand news outlets report negligently from time to time, but overall I feel it’s still relatively trustworthy. I mean if you consume Fox News, they literally had to pay Billions in penalties over openly LYING to their viewers, but let’s not forget. They are an entertainment channel who calls themselves news….they are propaganda, nothing more.

You should read *Where Tyranny Begins*. It’s about exactly what you’re talking about. The total abdication of our institutions and kowtowing to a wannabe strongman authoritarian. And not just any wannabe dictator, but a guy whose entire life is full of fraudulent, corrupt, and criminal acts that somehow managed to bend over the DOJ, the FBI, congress, mass media, and the scientific community because of his insane and rabid rhetoric riling up lunatic followers. Reading this after *The Longest Con* and *Russians Among Us*, really paints a crystal clear picture of how corrupt and dangerously evil the Republican party is. It goes back to before Nixon but it really took off with him and Roy Cohn.

If CNN had any guts they'd report on Carrs comments and point out that he has no evidence to back it up. And then give sources for their reporting (as long as they're not anonymous sources)
6
Used-Yogurtcloset757 5 days ago +5
Fox reports inaccurately without providing evidence constantly. In fact, I seem to remember them winning a lawsuit for this by claiming they were not actually news. They didn’t have to stop labeling as news or anything else after so seems like a CNN slam dunk against the FCC to me.
5
iroquoispliskin2029 5 days ago +6
It's a cable news network. Good luck with that.
6
EzrioHext 5 days ago +4
People are missing something. There was no inaccurate reporting. CNN reported that Iran said they had achieved a great victory. Iran did claim that. Trump just doesn't want people to know that they are anything other than defeated and destroyed, because with them claiming victory that narrative falls apart.

Unfortunately FCC has some level of jurisdiction because CNN has satellite uplinks they use for reporting and for distribution to cable networks.

If I were in a negotiation to which both parties agree is the framework for a settlement, i wouldn't care who takes credit. It would be more appropriate to say "we" have agreed to start negotiations from this starting point. I would be happy for both sides to take credit for "winning. " Because everybody loses in a war. A good deal is good for both sides. Iran can take all the credit it wants. DJT can take credit for starting an unnecessary war, killing innocent civilians, driving up prices around the world, damaging relationships with our allies and dividing the USA. DJT is such a whiney little baby. He just wants to take credit for ending another war, one that he didn't need to start.
