Remember one of the pretexts for entering this war was saving the Iranian people? Do we achieve this by destroying their drinking water?

Trump is a malignant narcissist. No one matters to him. Republicans need to find the courage to use the 25th Amendment before he blunders into World War III.
145
Agitated-Dark-151 Mar 31, 2026 +42
Yes, exactly. He is an agent of chaos. He just wants to take down our country. My mom always used to say that if America was ever to fall, it would be from within. She was right, as usual.
42
PapaTahm Mar 30, 2026 +359
He should care, because the entire U.S economy is extremely reliant in 2 things, Yen Carry Trade and Petrodollar. This affect both. If Iran basically destroy all Gulf Infrastructure, given all the other economic data we have (AI stocks overvalued, Private Investing issues, Debt), we will see a economic crisis that will make the Subprime 2008 Crisis look like a Rounding error.
359
No_Berry2976 Mar 31, 2026 +140
Donald Trump doesn’t care about the US. It’s fascinating to see that people are still trying to predict the behaviour of Donald Trump by assuming he cares about things like the American economy or the American people. He’s worried about the elections, but he might just gamble on the idea that creating chaos might prevent a Democrat majority in Congress, and might even give him (an illegal) third term.
140
ProfessorPetrus Mar 30, 2026 +218
We honestly need it. I'm tired of a country obsessed with consumption leading business culture. We are heading towards enviromental collapse. We need new leadership.
218
FILTHBOT4000 Mar 30, 2026 +164
Yeah, with the way things are heading, Trump will do more for the environment than all previous presidents combined. The current course is for the most disastrous crisis of oil and LNG anyone could possibly imagine. It'll result in a global depression, lots of suffering and death and famine, but it *will* push everyone onto green energy/vehicles way f****** faster than before.
164
ProfessorPetrus Mar 30, 2026 +72
If we can't reduce through discipline this sure is a depressing alternative. At least in the long run, it might save or improve billions of future lives.

gtafan37890 Mar 30, 2026 +209
And the Arab GCC countries are significantly more dependant on desalination for their water supply compared to Iran. Iran’s water crisis is bad but they do have other sources of water besides desalination. The Arab GCC countries have no such alternative and a lose of those desalination plants will result in an apocalyptic collapse of the region.
209

The Supreme Court says he is immune to prosecution for all things in his official act as President. I didn't realize that would cover war crimes as well, but here we are.
10102
Noctew Mar 30, 2026 +4231
Well' he's immune from US prosecution only. If only there was a court specializing in war crimes...oh wait, there is. The US do not recognize it, but the civilized world does.

1369
FILTHBOT4000 Mar 30, 2026 +385
They'll 100% do the same with their ruling on injunctions by lower courts. As soon as a Democrat is in, suddenly they'll say it's okay for Trump appointees in lower courts to stop executive orders/etc via injunction again.

DesireeThymes Mar 30, 2026 +262
There are two different USAs. And they change depending on which party is in charge. The Disunited States of America. Maybe the country should actually split in two.
262
evenstar40 Mar 30, 2026 +343
No, it didn't need to split in two. It just needed the people who orchestrated the OG civil war to actually be f****** held accountable and made examples of. We're in the mess we are today because of a weak hand dealing out punishment after the war was won. I mean shit, the fact that people still fly confederate flags proudly is just insane. The entire movement should have been stamped out after the civil war.
343
PallyMcAffable Mar 30, 2026 +190
As I understand it, the Confederate flag basically went out of use for the better part of a hundred years (I’d bet the North wouldn’t be fans of letting them fly it during Reconstruction, at any rate). But, for some reason, around the time of the civil rights movement, people coincidentally rediscovered their “Southern heritage”.
190
UnlikelyKaiju Mar 30, 2026 +143

686
TheBalzy Mar 30, 2026 +1018

The next administration should join the ICC and then ship off the lot of them to it
172
cheraphy Mar 30, 2026 +244
We should have held them all fixing accountable the first time. There are many many people to blame, but I hold Mitch McConnell especially responsible for this mess. Going all the way back to the 2016 election, democratic leadership wanted to make joint message with their republican counterparts condemning Russia's interference with the election to elect Trump and McConnell told them no, and if they did it alone he'd accuse them of being behind it. I don't think Trump wins 2016 if both parties condemned it. After that they had numerous off ramps to stop Trump once and for all and each time the Republicans blocked or ignored it, under the leadership of Mitch McConnell. Not to mention the stolen SCOTUS seats.
244
No-Poetry-2543 Mar 30, 2026 +131
I agree with Mitch McConnell starting the mess because when it was many months before Obama’s term, our good ole Mitch would not let Obama have a Supreme Court pick. Can you imagine how things would be better if he got that pick?

The same "it took me until the end of Bidens term for me to even attempt to build a case" Merrick Garland that could've ended all of this should he merely have *attempted to do his job*? That Merrick Garland?
62
Geostomp Mar 31, 2026 +37
He could have picked any of the hundreds of felonies to tie Trump and his lackeys up in the courts for years while working on the bigger case. The goal should have been neutralizing the crime syndicate's figurehead when his most treasonous act was fresh in the public consciousness instead of waiting until they had enough time to regroup and for the public to forget as they always do. Instead, they kept up the delusion of "getting back to normal" and let the fascist movement retake power with even more entrenchment.

I blame NBC. They packaged and promoted him to America via ***The Apprentice*** as some sort of business genius, when in reality he was a failed real estate developer who couldn't even make money from a c*****, even while stiffing the contractors and suppliers.
300
Kristin2349 Mar 30, 2026 +215
That was actually Mark Burnett of Survivor fame, he's the one who produced the show and pushed Trump to run for president. He's also an evangelical nutter.
215
ImGumbyDamnIt Mar 30, 2026 +111
Burnett and Trump are listed as co-producers. Burnett approached Trump and Trump jumped at it as a rebrand. Trump had already pivoted to licensing his name on products, as most banks and business partners were no longer willing to lend him money. I still blame NBC, as they bought the pitch and put him on the air, even though it was all lies. Yes, reality TV is bullshit, but all these unengaged Americans bought the bullshit that he was the quintessential successful businessman season after season.
111
seidenkaufman Mar 30, 2026 +15
I remember, back in the reality TV boom of the early '00s, that there were some hand-wringing opinion pieces that feared that the spectacle of reality TV shows would have some kind of detrimental effect on society. I suppose they have been proved right.

You grossly over-estimate Trump's business acumen. He couldn't sell Trump-branded face mask during the pandemic - yet alone flashlights to shove up your arse if you prefer his alternative facts about viruses: > "Supposing we hit the body with a tremendous — whether it's ultraviolet or just very powerful light... supposing you brought the light inside the body, which you can do either through the skin or in some other way... Sounds interesting,".
130
Zebidee Mar 30, 2026 +101
The worst thing about that moment was he literally just read off a poster board on stage that the virus could be killed by bleach or UV light, but didn't understand that that meant in surfaces, not in the body. He was repeating something he read 12 seconds before, without understanding it.
101

304
CharleyNobody Mar 30, 2026 +113
The military has been infiltrated by fundamentalists since the 1980s and the military knew they were being infiltrated and supported it. Here’s an excerpt from a 2003 interview in the Atlantic with Col Tom Wilhelm praising the Christianization of the military. *The full flowering of the middle ranks had its roots in the social transformation of the American military, which, according to Wilhelm (a supposed liberal who voted for Al Gore in 2000), had taken place a decade earlier, when the rise of Christian evangelicalism had helped stop the indiscipline of the Vietnam-era Army. "This zeal reformed behavior, empowered junior leaders, and demanded better recruits," he said.*   *"For one thing, drinking stopped, and that killed off the officers' clubs, which, in turn, broke down more barriers between officers and noncoms, giving the noncoms the confidence to do what majors and colonels in other armies do. The Christian fundamentalism was the hidden hand that changed the military for the better. Though you try to get someone to admit it! We never could have pulled off Macedonia or Bosnia with the old Vietnam Army."*

> . The Department of Defense (DoD) found that over 80% of current service members regularly consume alcohol while about 40% participate in binge drinking (Hoopsick et al., 2022). These numbers exceed those of the general population with younger military members being at higher risk for adverse alcohol-related problems. Additionally, service members are less likely to disclose alcohol-related issues and seek treatment due to fear of career consequences and social rejection (Hoopsick et al., 2022). While action and educational steps have been taken to alleviate and acknowledge alcohol use disorders among military individuals, it still affects 42% of military members (Schick et al., 2021). Dying for the chance at 72 sex partners makes way more sense than dying for what Christian nationalists think they are getting. They don’t even know what they want. Seriously ask them, “what is the Christian afterlife?” “I get to live forever with my family and not work and there is peace.” Do you want to spend time with your family now? No. Do you want peace now? No. What do you think of people who don’t like to work? “Commies!”

Already has been their duty, along with Congress's duty, which they've absolutely ignored. ***Per the 14th Amendment, Section 3, he is already ineligible to be president.*** Dude was literally adjudicated in a court of law to have incited insurrection in a 100+ page ruling spelling it all out, including definitions of insurrection and case law (Judge Wallace in Colorado). He has been categorically disqualified from holding office since before the election. Now, SCOTUS decided to add wrinkles to that, but the finding still stands for insurrection, so if either the House or Senate were to hold a vote to allow him to hold office it would fail to meet the 2/3 requirement. He'd be instantly disqualified (again) from the presidency (he already is, but that would make it even more official). And no need for an impeachment mess dragging out months. Now if only someone would uphold the actual law.

218
Kythorian Mar 30, 2026 +197
I had a MAGA person argue to me that we should make Iran the 51st state, and I could practically see the record scratch when I pointed out that I was a surprised he wanted to increase the Muslim percent of the American population from 1% to almost 25%. They don’t have any internal consistency in their beliefs, and they don’t really care that they don’t. They say whatever they think will help win the current argument , and avoid directly confronting the lack of consistency.
197
Catatonic27 Mar 30, 2026 +72
They LOVE the lack of internal consistency. They think it's high IQ to hold multiple conflicting viewpoints simultaneously. To them, that's based. If they weren't in charge of everything they would be impossible to take seriously.
72
Mirria_ Mar 30, 2026 +36
My belief is that they have a punishment f*****. Remember, it's never about justice, it's about "checkmates", revenge and submission of the others to them. So they just go for whatever talking point that at the very moment implies as much pain and humiliation to their target. And as such, they are very consistent. They don't really care about winning as much as they care about *the others* losing.

I like how it so quickly went from "liberating the Iranian people" to "f*** your access to water and energy, Iranian people." Honestly disgusting to see us using the same tactics as Russia. Bombing civilian infrastructure is low low.

It's pretty insane to watch how little reaction from Americans there is to its government threatening action that could cause the death of a lot of innocent civilians. There's a lot of anger about gas prices, though. So I guess they are at least noticing something is happening.

We are “reacting” all over the place. Reactions don’t count for much with a dictator.

At least in the UK, the vibe will be like "Oh good, he's dead" and carry on with our days Right now the only impact trump is having here is petrol (gasoline) prices, and making our Prime Minister look good cos trump keeps alternating between mocking the UK military and begging for our help which we're not biting to either

But as he claims this isn't a war, then it's just a crime, and as far as Orange Don is concerned, those are okay.

JoshuaZ1 Mar 30, 2026 +28
Curiously, the Geneva conventions anticipated that. They explicitly use the term "conflict" in many parts to avoid arguments about whether something is not really a war.
28
amus Mar 30, 2026 +2182
Yeah, that would be a war crime and Iran would blow up Qatar, Saudi, Kuwati, and everyone else's desal plants and millions would die and the US economy would collapse and it would probably mean nuclear war. Then Trump will say "No one had any idea!"

Also, while the damage to Iran water supply would be large they only get 10% of their water drinking through desalination. The GCC states are on a much worse position to soak up counte damage since they produce over 90% of theirs.
191
TurbinePro Mar 30, 2026 +53
10% of water supply cut off in a country which already has supply issues is definitely a humanitarian crisis already. Now imagine Tel Aviv without 99% of its water supply.
53
ansible Mar 30, 2026 +12
Even a 10% loss would still be very bad news for Iran, because they are facing a water supply crisis. They have seen years of chronic mismanagement of water resources and use.
12

The desalination plants are more impactful in the gulf states. They do this, Iran will retaliate and Riyadh will have to be evacuated

Trumps cluelessness is fascinating and frightening at the same time. Iran would love the USA doing this. Gulf states would be empty within weeks and Iran could cope.

Inviting Iran to blow up the Israeli and Gulf State desalination plants. I'm pretty sure they have more dependence on desalination than Iran.

Dang. I hate the IRCG and Iranian regime as much as anyone, but this sort of action would kill of millions of innocent Iranians. And it plays right into the regime's trap, as they do not give a dang. Heck they'll set it up so all the regime opponents die of thirst, while the regime loyalist gets all the water.
