Who could've possibly seen this coming?

Not Hegseth, for one.

As idiotic as these people seem, I feel like most of them know the game by the now. That's why they push so hard on the grift and so quickly. They want to get theirs before it is inevitably their turn to go under the bus.

Ianthin1 Mar 23, 2026 +423
They know what they have to do. No one wears shoes 4 sizes too big unless they know their job depends on it.

We had a golden age of political satire, and the Trump administration killed it. Any comically incompetent, sleazy thing is now reality. Cheated on his 3rd wife with an adult film actress? Friends with the world's most infamous pedophile? Four Seasons Total Landscaping? It's the latest season of Arrested Development.

Heh... Like the joke about Lindsay Bluth's accidental platform to build the US/Mexico border wall...

WontArnett Mar 24, 2026 +1
Except this is real life. Many terrible people exist, we know that now. We have undeniable proof. Conspiracy theories are their distraction. We need to be diligent about our laws, and who can be allowed to have power in this country.

Suspicious_Bicycle Mar 24, 2026 +1
How is it that none of those clowns are bright enough to order identical replacement shoes in the correct size?
1
Ianthin1 Mar 24, 2026 +1
My theory is they are afraid Trump ordered them clown size on purpose so he could tell they were his.

It always bugged me… Pete could never align his sideburns with all his stress about “appearance “

I’m curious if he will return to Fox News when he is finally sacrificed to protect Trump or if he’ll have to drop down to OAN or Newsmax.

I envision a podcast ranked #97 on Spotify.
105
DrowCarnotaurus Mar 23, 2026 +50
97? Seems a little high since he has about as much charisma and appeal as Vance.
50
Competitive_Ad291 Mar 23, 2026 +30
He’ll get followers from the Doug Wilson crowd. To be fair Dan Bongino’s podcast is currently #93
30
SaveUsCatman Mar 23, 2026 +15
It will debut at 97, three weeks in it will have like 30 listeners and they will just be ones that forgot to unsubscribe and fell asleep listening to another podcast

Wonder if he'll try to land a seat on the board at 'defense' company where he can put to use any insight he's picked up during time as a Secretary or cabinet member.
10
AnneTheQueene Mar 23, 2026 +7
I certainly hope no self-respecting defense contractor would do that. Because he has clearly not gained one iota of insight that any top-tier company doesn't already have. The only way he would be a good investment is if there is another (heaven forbid) Republican president and then he *might* be useful as a lobbyist. Honestly, I'd be more worried that he would be selling my secrets to Russia or somewhere else to double-dip. He seems like he would be susceptible to a honeytrap or something similar.

Where is he going to live when he gets kicked off the base and is paranoid about everyone he meets? Dudes going to spiral lol.

Yeah they know the grift. They're probably getting a cut of all the money that is being made by the insider trading and market manipulation. In fact I'm beginning to think that's the primary focus of the Trump Admin.

This was the plan from all along. Israel has cucked the US, blackmailed Trump into joining the strikes to give themselves a shield of credibility, and told them to blame Pete as a scapegoat just like Trump pointed the finger to Noem for building a fascist army that he’s now using in airports as a trial balloon for our first-ever fascist election in November. Sad timeline.

“Pete was always the worst Secretary of war. We knew he sucked at everything for years and years.” Just like that guy who resigned a few days ago, they’ll just say whatever to spin a narrative. And maga will lap it up.
40
FKJVMMP Mar 23, 2026 +59
I actually find it a really interesting look into how MAGA operates. You go to the conservative sub where they’re moderated into towing the party line all the time, and they hate Bondi. They hate Leavitt. They don’t think much of Hegseth. They don’t think much of Vance. Opinions on Noem were mixed, some liked her and some didn’t. Rubio isn’t popular but that seems largely residual from when he was a Trump adversary and they just haven’t accepted him yet. They don’t have much positive to say about anybody from the first Trump admin. This comes up all the time. But somehow despite all this, and despite frequently saying “I really think Trump made the wrong pick there”, they never quite take that next step to going “Wow, if Trump so consistently makes shitty picks for vital positions, maybe he actually isn’t all that great.” It’s just never a thought that enters their brains. It is possible for Trump to be wrong, but it isn’t possible that being frequently wrong about important things all the time actually makes him bad at the job.

Yeah and it is always just an isolated issue and always „a bad look“ but not more
1
trystanthorne Mar 23, 2026 +13
Brought to you by the Party that did the Iran-Contra Deal, then threw Oliver North under the bus when it was convenient. Who is now on... you guessed it, Fox News. Which is where Pete Hegseth was before 2025, and where he'll probably go back after he resigns at the Presidents request.
13
flirtmcdudes Mar 23, 2026 +15
Israel fed into trumps delusion of being remembered for eliminating irans leaders. They played the senile old man into something no other president would do.
15

Is this really throwing him under the bus?

He always has a fall guy. Hegseth's makeup and hair gel should help break the fall.

Oh I know. They really stepped into it with Iran, they are not going to shrug and move on after this, i mean just...if Trump can back off now and stop making things even worse.
117
zombiekoalas Mar 23, 2026 +110
Unfortunately backing off won't help at this point. The US tied itself to Israel in the initial attacks, and Israel is **currently** attacking Iran despite trump proclaiming a ceasefire. Iran isnt going to seperate the US and Israel as long as they are under attack.

Yeah anyone who pays for WaPo at this point should be smart enough to know what they're getting.
14

Nope he can't change it but it's definitely a very strong hint at why someone can look at this conflict and say "the real victim here is Israel. They're getting blamed" 🙄

The least surprising thing would be Trump leaving all of the US’ allies high and dry when the politics become too hot.
7
OpportunityDue90 Mar 23, 2026 +6
The war pig mongers in Bush’s cabinet were saying don’t kick the Iranian hornets nest. Pandora’s box has been opened and the dipshits had no plan.
6
TunaNoCrust811 Mar 23, 2026 +21
I thought Trump said there was no war, and that we already won it, and that we need allies help to win it, but now we don’t need their help actually. And the Strait of Hormuz doesn’t matter, but it’s vital that we secure it, but we actually already secured it and won? Is it possible Trump just lies about everything?? Say it isn’t so!!

Ok-disaster2022 Mar 23, 2026 +20
Iran has causes Belli to lock down the trade route. Why would they go back to normal instead of getting some kind of major concessions? Right now Iran has greater leverage than the US.  Long term either a UN coalition invades Iran to secure the trade route or Iran collapses. Now that they and the world understand the leverage they have they'd be stupid not to exploit it while it lasts.  The Pedo Party in the Whitehouse have disrupted the status quo in ways no one can really predict. And the US is losing face and strength everyday as a result.
20
commit10 Mar 23, 2026 +7
Concessions aren't an option because the US can just change their mind at any time. Negotiations only work if there's some small margin of trust, or if the parties can be held accountable.
7
TheNatural14063 Mar 23, 2026 +5
Only fair concessions would be a coup in the US that sends Trump and his lackeys hogtied to Iran to do what they please with them and complete cancellation of all American dollars to Israel to let the Middle East do what they want with the Zionists that started this war. If I was President and had the huge executive power the Supreme Court says I would have.....
5
Ember_Kensei Mar 23, 2026 +398
I mean to be fair, Hegseth has made countless terrible choices. The real concerning part of this whole fiasco, is how someone like Hegseth can even land in this role. This guy was deemed an insider threat by his own command due to his 'Dues Vult' tattoo. He was barred from serving for the President Biden inauguration. He was 'willingly' removed from service, in our own military and this man has the absolute nerve to get on stage months ago, and talk to all of our military generals, admirals and say he's coming for their jobs. Hegseth was again removed from the Concerned Veterans for America in 2016 due to allegations of financial mismanagement, and alcoholism. The guy is a raging alcoholic, a known white supremacist and an overall shit human, yet here he is starting wars for a country he isn't even allowed to fight for. The only joke here is that he is in any leadership position. He's just a fall guy at the end of the day, just like everyone in our President's cabinet. People who chose money and power over moral ethics. I am a veteran at the end of the day and I love what my country used to stand for, ideals that seem to be completely gone.
398
Advanced-Ad-4462 Mar 23, 2026 +132
My dad was like Hegseth, a major in the army. Like Hegseth, he won a bronze star. Unlike Hegseth, he was also a brilliant neurosurgeon, and wasn’t a recovering alcoholic. My dad would have been aghast at the thought of himself being tapped as SecDef. He knew he wasn’t qualified; that’s a position for 4 star generals not majors like him and Hegseth. I miss him dearly, but I’m glad he didn’t live to see 2016, much less 2025. He was such a patriot; the state of our country would’ve been very sad for him to see.

1

He went from fox news producer political propaganda to trump propaganda producer military wing. Allowing him to make decisions that killed people and ruined lives was not good.
18
SeriousObjective6727 Mar 23, 2026 +25
Isn't this reverse DEI? I mean when Trump was complaining about positions being "given" to people because of the color of their skin and not because they were actually qualified for it, well, look at what's happened during his second term. A whole bunch of people being given jobs who are not qualified but they're white.
25
elijuicyjones Mar 23, 2026 +22
It’s simply called “racism” not “reverse DEI”
22
Ember_Kensei Mar 23, 2026 +10
Well, actually it has little to do with the color of their skin, but everything to do with their ability to say yes. Trump picked people who are easily manipulated. Someone who looks at someone like Trump and think of nothing other then what they can gain from a relationship with him. Not once do their moral ethics play a factor. It's why when they conduct Senate hearing committee's and ask questions to these people, half don't even know what they are talking about. For god sakes, Kristi Noem defined habeas corpus wrong when she was asked what it meant. Her literal job, she said it was the Presidents right to conduct mass deportations without due process. The goal was never to put good people in these positions, the goal was to put a face in the positions. What the face knew was never a factor, the less they knew the better, it helps create the chaos we see today, and the desperation from the average citizen.

Yes, but Trump thinks he looks like a military leader so that's why he was chosen.
3
Syrairc Mar 23, 2026 +213
You'd think these people would have learned from Trump's first term. Noem was first, seems likely Hegseth will be next, followed by Bondi when the pedo-war is unsuccessful at making us forget about the Epstein files.  Trump rewards loyalty with betrayal - that's all he's ever done. Don't forget about the Epstein Files, by the way.
213

JD Vance is the one who really amuses me. Clearly he doesn't believe any of this shit but is willing to play ball as long as it's a shortcut to power, but he is like a deer in the headlights, he can see what's coming but doesn't understand exactly what it is.

You’d think maga would notice the pattern of “trump says he’s the best at hiring people!” And then everyone he hires turns out to be a lying grifter and or criminal. But that light bulb literally never activates.
21
Additional_Teacher45 Mar 23, 2026 +15
Bondi may be sooner than later if Lieu keeps wrecking her. Bondi's lawyers had to tell Congress that their client pleads the 5th. In a Congressional hearing. Because of three simple questions Lieu asked, a single piece of paper on the table, and 93 seconds of complete silence where Bondi refused to answer a simple yes/no question. It was glorious to watch.

It's just MAGA eating itself like fascism always does. If they can't succeed in labeling an "other" threat, then they start labeling each other as the threat, because fascism always needs an enemy to rally against. Their regime is falling apart in record time. And midterms will finish the job. Trump is done for.
7

>President Trump is already trying to throw Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth under the bus for the fruitless war on Iran. >“I called Pete, I called General Caine, I called a lot of our great people … and I said, ‘Let’s talk. We got a problem in the Middle East. We have a country … that for 47 years has been a purveyor of terror. And they’re very close to having a nuclear weapon. We can keep going and get that 50,000 up to 55 and 60, there’s no end. Or we could take a stop and make a little journey into the Middle East, and eliminate a big problem,’” Trump said Monday at an event in Memphis. >“Pete, I think you were the first one to speak up,” Trump continued. “And you said, ‘Let’s do it.’ Because you can’t let them have a nuclear weapon.”

Well after this is over (optimistic I know) we also need the names of any military leaders who endorsed this madness. If you either didn't have the intelligence to know better or lacked the courage to speak up then you have no right to any leadership position in our military.
8
MizkyBizniz Mar 23, 2026 +40
This is so f****** dumb but the magats will eat it up. Its not like the President didnt sign off on this. Or that we have systems to go through congress so we dont make rash decisions like starting a war at 1 am. Its like if Pete Carroll blamed Russell Wilson for calling the play that led to the game winning super bowl interception. Like, ok, you're the coach? Didn't realize that was Russ's call?

This is how it always is with Trump. He always has someone else to blame. When anything bad happens under a democratic president, Republicans says “it starts at the top” but when it’s a republican president it’s totally ok to point fingers.

MizkyBizniz Mar 23, 2026 +9
How was Trump supposed to know he shouldn't impulsively bomb Iran! He's just a sweet innocent boy who ran on no new wars!!!

He thinks he’s so clever every time he uses that phrase. “Look, they look like a stereotypical _______!” Looks the part >>> knows wtf they are doing, apparently.

EffectiveEdg Mar 23, 2026 +53
It’s the classic Trump move. He sends Hegseth out there to play the tough guy on and talk about $200 billion war budgets, and the second the wind blows a different way, he hits the brakes.

Indubitalist Mar 23, 2026 +10
Inb4 Trump yet again says one of “the best people” ended up being completely incompetent.

THEbaddestOFtheASSES Mar 23, 2026 +29
Trump clearly doesn’t understand that it doesn’t matter if Hegseth is at fault. Who’s the idiot that hired him is the automatic question that will come up next.
29
InsanityCore Mar 23, 2026 +17
Biden probably or Obama
17
SkeetonherValentine Mar 23, 2026 +31
Of course he does. Hegseth is an idiot and a tool.

Look in the mirror Donny, it is only you to blame. Do us all a favor and quit forever.
9
Few_Ticket6959 Mar 23, 2026 +8
That's how you know this conflict is a disaster lol. If it were going well he'd say, Hegseth didn't want to do it but he(Trump) did because he's a soothsayer who can predict the future. Or some bullshit like that.

Nobody is safe from authoritarian fascists, not even authoritarian fascists. Purges, power plays, disposal of the inconvenient, targeting scapegoats, these are all routine to authoritarian fascist governance. Hegseth gets to join Noem and learn all this first hand. PS. Miller's time will come too.

Africaspaceman Mar 23, 2026 +6

Colin Jost’s drunk Hegseth nursing his bruised ego after getting fired is going to be legendary. I can’t wait!

india2wallst Mar 23, 2026 +6
I had the misfortune of watching a press conference by Pete Hegseth. It seemed more like a performance - the shifting body language, random insults at Bush and other presidents, literal 0 specific information. It's sad to see what's going on.

Shot_Pool2543 Mar 23, 2026 +4
Typical trump M.O . Blame someone else because he can’t and will not ever take responsibility for his own decisions and Hegseth is going to learn first hand that loyalty in the end only cuts one way.
4

I am Jack's complete lack of surprise.

Hegseth? I don’t really know him. I might have met him at a party once or twice, but I never really liked him.

Why would anyone work with/for Trump?
3
SpecialistAssociate7 Mar 24, 2026 +1
The US will win every major battle against Iran. It will dominate the air, sea, and ground in open battle. It did the same against the taliban and in Iraq. The us will lose the long game unless it can win over the people. The anti Islamic stance of the US will not win over the Iranian people. We are doing the exact opposite and will just rally millions more against western governments and culture. Hegseth and his master trump will never understand this.
1

To be fair to the bus, Kegsbreath has vomited on it a lot of times
3
Fartenstein65 Mar 23, 2026 +3
I am sure it is the comments already but in Trump’s own words the strikes in Iran obliterated all of Iran’s ability to produce nuclear weapons. So which one is it? Pretty sure we know the answer.
3
Smrleda Mar 23, 2026 +3
Pete’s a tough guy- he can handle it as long as the bus doesn’t run him over.
3
AcanthisittaNo6653 Mar 23, 2026 +3
Except Iran wasn't close to having a nuclear bomb, and at least 10 years from having an ICBM that could reach the US. They weren't shooting at us like they were in the Gulf of Tonkin in 1964, not that they were shooting at us in the Gulf of Tonkin in 1964..
3
ToCityZen Mar 23, 2026 +3
Pete Hegseth is a Christian Zionist and in alignment with Israel’s well-documented objectives. Israel is the *only* one with clear objectives.

This is the same Pete Hegseth that Trump stood up for multiple times. When his nomination to Secretary was called into question, when Hegseth broke the law sharing confidential military info in a signal chat that included a journalist. This is his man, right?
1
selfhostrr Mar 24, 2026 +1
Lol I said it weeks ago. Hegseth is a Temu von Ribbentrop.

1
Scottiths Mar 24, 2026 +1
Trump must have been coached to say this by someone. I refuse to believe the man knows what "purveyor" means. It just isn't in his lexicon.
1
MyClosetedBiAcct Mar 23, 2026 +5
Listen whatever it takes to not start nuking people.
5
lod001 Mar 23, 2026 +4
It looks like the thing that is truly stopping nukes from being launched is that the president, alone, is responsible for their final launch approval and no one else can ever be accused of their final launch approval. Trump doesn't do anything without assurance that the outcome is good, or without assurance that there can be a scapegoat, and neither option is available when launching nuclear weapons. If he claims a nuclear weapon is launched without his approval, then that simply proves that he has zero control over his own cabinet, and he also hates that!
4
thechimpinallofus Mar 23, 2026 +4
If you read beyond the headline... Trump did not such thing (yet). This is a click bait headline. Trump merely said Hegseth was on board to doing something about Iran when Trump brought it up in a meeting. Thats not throwing someone under the bus... Trump is owning the decision in his words. So idk. Maybe read the article before commenting.
