> Trump added that the group "sues me for a ballroom that is under budget, ahead of schedule, being built at no cost to the taxpayer, and will be the finest building of its kind anywhere in the world". If that's the case, putting a plan and budget in front of congress should be easy to get approved since it's not costing taxpayers anything. Of course, none of what he says is true. The cost of this ballroom has changed constantly. And it's not at all clear who is paying for it, because THERE'S NO F****** PLAN.

Under budget it has gone from 200 million to 400 million.
357
PixelScuba Mar 31, 2026 +217
Can't be over budget if the budget is always increasing.

What budget? Who approved any budget?

The same person who offered to make him Supreme Leader of Iran.

>being built at no cost to the taxpayer ...and there is no universe wherein this statement is true
15
TheRealBittoman Mar 31, 2026 +8
Typical Republican, moving goal posts at every play.
8
ecaseo Mar 31, 2026 +7
400 million will not even cover the cost of the new installation for the military.
7
BrianWonderful Mar 31, 2026 +3
For the military? If it is being paid for by private tech billionaires, is the underground data center/bunker really for the military?
3
CAL9k Mar 31, 2026 +4
If you haven't paid for anything you're under budget.
4
onlyhightime Mar 31, 2026 +3
Can't be over budget if you never get a budget approved.
3
No_Air8719 Mar 31, 2026 +2
Yeah but it’s a flexible budget y’know 😂
2
theClumsy1 Mar 31, 2026 +2
Seriously. If it was "under budget" whats the budget?
2
ILikeLenexa Apr 1, 2026 +2
If you always just increase the budget to $1 more than the cost, it's always under budget.
2
ciel_lanila Mar 31, 2026 +1
If you modify the budget to be higher before it finishes then it technically wasn't overbudget! /s
1
Sixmmxw Apr 1, 2026 +1
So what. The rich, wealthy, evil seekers and human right abusers, and tech ceos were to pay for it. Why on earth did this went down everyone’s throats. Is like the WA taxing the billionaires (law) taking effect like five or more years from now. Let DJT handle the bill. That’s where the buck stops.
1
urlond Apr 1, 2026 +1
Money Laundering in construction now.

In case anybody still hasn't figured it out, Donald Trump is a criminal, a rapist and lies constantly.
75
SirFredman Mar 31, 2026 +9
Did you know you can tell when he's lying? He opens his mouth. Subtle but true!
9
RealCrusader Mar 31, 2026 +5
Especially when he plays the air accordion with his wee hands as well as opening his mouth. He's abit weird.
5
Dwigt_Rortugal78 Mar 31, 2026 +36
So roughly translated from Trumpspeak, its over budget, behind schedule and being built all at the taxpayer expense, and it'll be the shittiest building of its kind anywhere in the world.
36
Zahgi Mar 31, 2026 +12
And completely unnecessary.
12
Claypool-Bass1 Mar 31, 2026 +6
Let's not forget, bet he's dipping his hand in the cookie jar.
6
MultiGeometry Mar 31, 2026 +15
Exactly. There is no budget. The project was never proposed and never approved. You can’t be under budget for something that doesn’t exist.
15
we_are_sex_bobomb Mar 31, 2026 +12
Can someone help me understand how a building project can be “under budget” if you haven’t even started building it yet?
12
pogidaga Mar 31, 2026 +6
They saved tons money on the demolition by not following any rules or safeguards. If there were a budget, I'm sure it would specify the finest materials available. Then Don the Con would substitute material made from asbestos and toxic sludge to line his pockets with the difference in cost.
6
Mysterious_Floor_868 Apr 1, 2026 +2
You can save a lot by never paying your contractors
2
VegemiteVibes24 Mar 31, 2026 +12
> Trump added that the group "sues me for a ballroom that is under budget, ahead of schedule, being built at no cost to the taxpayer, and will be the finest building of its kind anywhere in the world". He seems to also forget that he DOESN'T ACTUALLY OWN THE WHITEHOUSE 🤦🏻‍♀️ You can't just go knocking down half of a state owned historical building and say it's okay because it's under budget. I'm honestly exhausted by this man and I'm not even American!
12
thefootster Apr 1, 2026 +2
Exactly. Here in the UK, if you demolish or make alterations to a historic building without permission then you have to rebuild and put it right, and often you'll have to use specialist contractors who can replicate traditional building methods so that it is authentic.
2
FreedomBread Mar 31, 2026 +24
Plan? It's just a concept of a plan, and even then, it's just made to look like the Lincoln Memorial but with fake windows and no actual way into the ballroom. And big beautiful secret bunker under it that Trump told everyone about because he's an old fool.
24
ShakeyLegsMcGee Mar 31, 2026 +7
There’s a schedule for this train wreck?
7
TheHumanGnomeProject Mar 31, 2026 +12
>If that's the case, putting a plan and budget in front of congress should be easy to get approved since it's not costing taxpayers anything. Hard no chief. One would hope Congress would have a conniption with private entities buying federal buildings (because that's what this is). This is naked grift and any sane Congress would laugh his ass out of there
12
grandlizardo Mar 31, 2026 +4
Gonna be a cold day in hell when the trumpies ever come up with a plan to present to congress, and even colder when congress approves this boondoggle. No, ballroom is dead. Now, who is going to put back the east wing? YAYYYYYYYY! 😀
4
theClumsy1 Mar 31, 2026 +2
Especially if the rumors are true and hes building a bunker underneath. Are you seriously suggesting the American people should be ok with a top secret bunker being made...with donations??????
2
diverareyouokay Mar 31, 2026 +6
My understanding was that it’s going to be paid for by the military now that it is going to contain some sort of war situation room… presumably the donor money will go into Trump’s pocket.
6
gsbadj Mar 31, 2026 +3
A Hitler bunker?
3
owennagata Apr 1, 2026 +3
Technically, a replacement for the bunker that was already down there, a WWII era project. It probably DID need updating; an 80-year-old bunker is hardly going to be up to current standards no matter how many times it has been modernized. But there was no need to level the East Wing to do it, they could have burrowed in from the side, or built a new bunker in a different spot and made the old one a sem-secure storeroom or something. Given that the building is already gone; fine. Build the greatest bunker they want down there. Leave off the gold paint. And the marble. And the gaudy artworks. If it has bedrooms, they do not need mirrors on the ceiling or erotica on the walls. Just, in general, if Caesar's Palace in Vegas has it, this bunker doesn't need it. Then put a replica of the old East Wing on top of it.
3
idontlikeanyofyou Mar 31, 2026 +12
Also, despite what he thinks, the White House doesn't belong to him. He can't just do what he wants to it without approval from Congress. I'm so f****** sick of this guy.
12
Ggriffinz Mar 31, 2026 +3
I think we all know 3 years from now the entire wing will still be cover in blue tarp as he got nothing meaningful done. Which will be a start reflection of his presidency. Hell, he paved the Kennedy rose garden for a crappy concrete patio and that is absolutely getting torn up as well.
3
glymph Mar 31, 2026 +2
The excuse will be that the judge/dems/Biden put a spanner in the works, and it would have been completed if it wasn't for the pesky kids etc.
2
OfficialDCShepard Mar 31, 2026 +2
And also “private donations” = illegal grift that would get shot down immediately after they went to Congress.
2
mikedave42 Mar 31, 2026 +2
He tore down a valuable and historic building belonging to the tax payers, where is our compensation ?
2
BruceSharkbait Apr 1, 2026 +2

2

1
georgepana Mar 31, 2026 +1
Trump lies when he opens his mouth. Shocker.
1
thebruce Mar 31, 2026 +1
Hasn't he claimed that the reconstruction is also to support a massive military installation, or upgrade to it? If the taxpayer isn't paying, then who is this installation supposed to benefit?
1
Fragrant_Fox_5056 Mar 31, 2026 +1
Having a tonne of the most disingenuous businesses and people as private investors for a huge underground military complex under the White House is about the sketchiest thing a US president could do . What did he promise them for that investment?
1
duxpdx Mar 31, 2026 +1
Much easier to embezzle money that way.
1
TehWackyWolf Mar 31, 2026 +1
So it's over budget, late, and ugly
1
GatorNator83 Mar 31, 2026 +1
Concept of a plan. And the budget is probably just a doodle.
1
geologicalnoise Mar 31, 2026 +1
The only way it's not costing us anything is if Russia is building it and loading that f***** up with everything our intelligence and spy agencies were built to defend against. And the idiot just goes "derp herp I picked the blinds!"
1
SamwiseGamchi Mar 31, 2026 +1
Maybe Mexico is going to pay for this too
1
Efficient-Resist4733 Apr 1, 2026 +1
We the tax payer are paying for it.Even if trump "pays".  This clown cant use the presidency earn himself billions off insider trading and corruption then spend a small fraction of what he stole from us and say he bought it. How stupid can people be.
1
WontArnett Apr 1, 2026 +1
Tax payers are definitely paying for it, one way or another
1
Worldly_Reply8852 Apr 1, 2026 +1
Nah man, you just gotta trust his tweet, why would he lie? (I hope I wouldn't have to explain this is all sarcasm)
1
ImmaNotHere Apr 1, 2026 +1
Just like everything Trump does, he just does it and consequences be damned. No pre-planning, pre-approvals, no foresight into possible problems. Just do it. /smfh
1
FuzzyMcBitty Apr 1, 2026 +1
Even if it were being paid for entirely by donations, we don’t want that. It’s “the people’s house.” The people pay for it so that the people have ownership.  It was only during the Second World War that they closed the grounds off.  You used to be able to just drop by, walk the grounds, and even go inside.

Maxamillion-X72 Mar 31, 2026 +10
If SCOTUS rules against his birthright citizenship case, he just might. The Trump-Epstein files still exist, the war in Iran is going terribly, he's been unsuccessful in bullying anyone to get involved in the war, the Middle East countries are realizing the billions they've funneled him and his gang of deplorables is money flushed down the toilet, and so many other major failings. The grift is falling apart and he's trapped in a corner with no way out. All we need is one slightly weak blood vessel in his brain to pop from his rage.
10
rantingathome Mar 31, 2026 +8
> the Middle East countries are realizing the billions they've funneled him and his gang of deplorables And Trump starting to insult *MBS* might not be one of his best moves. Not a guy one wants to piss off.

I have a deep appreciation for every judge that’s had the guts to do their job and not cower and bend to that piece of shit’s whim. They are the front line in preventing this dumbass wannabe dictator from doing whatever his addled brain synapses please.

SuperGameTheory Mar 31, 2026 +10
I always get the impression from judges that they've already heard everyone else's bs and they're not about to fall for your bs, either. Like a parent on their 1000th kid. If I were a judge, I probably would gaf if Jesus were standing in front of me. Like, seriously, I get Pilate.

“The major construction project has been funded by private donors, including Mr Trump himself…” How do we know these “donations” weren’t actually bribes? Who made the donations? What did they expect in return?
36
Tangled349 Mar 31, 2026 +19
The word bribe and donation are interchangeable with anything involving the Trump administration. The rich are literally showering him with cash so they run about f****** up our country without interference.
19
Raptorex27 Mar 31, 2026 +14
Exactly this. Every time I hear this moron and his followers brag about how something is going to be paid with “outside funding,” or not cost the taxpayers a “single dime,” like it’s a good thing, my blood starts to boil. The entire reason taxpayers should fund these things is we’re supposed to have a say in our government and how our money is spent through electing representatives to Congress. As soon as that disconnect happens, we the people have lost control and foreign investors, dark money bribes, and people currying favor are in control.
14
Brave_Nerve_6871 Mar 31, 2026 +4

He keeps going on about how it will be the "greatest ballroom in the country" as if Americans give a flying f*** about the grandeur of our ballrooms.

Funniest part of this is Trump calling the National Trust for Historic Preservation "a radical left group of lunatics." In my experience, historic preservation people tend to be pretty conservative.

“Under budget”?!? He raises up its budget like $100 million every few months.

“Outrage” is as nuanced as this clown gets. One of the many reasons that people would normally follow the established process before destroying/replacing public properties is to avoid the current situation. After capriciously demolishing the East Wing it might be better to postpone the next phase until someone more serious and stable is in office. Whatever its intended design or use the new Obama structure should not be thrown together in haste.

No budget and no schedule. My kind of f****** project.

Well, we know Congress will sign off on it no matter what the independent reviews say. The GOP has ample opportunities to shed him and move on after his first term but they just can't say no to the felon.

Yet all the extreme chaos this deranged maniac has caused globally doesn't bother him at all.

Like he needs a judge’s order to voice outrage.

I mean.... it was already halted. It's not as if they were mid construction.

One f****** dollar is over budget for this monstrosity. Trump needs to be forced to restore the east wing. It’s not his house, it’s our house!

xutopia Mar 31, 2026 +1
Everything he says is a f****** lie. No it isn't under budget... and it will cost taxpayers money. Can't wait till he is out of office. We need normal again.

I propose they just water down the hole and release a bunch of pigs. They could have two pens, one with 100 "senators" and one with 400 "representatives". Paint them red and blue according to their party. They can slop em with leftover mcdonalds from the white house.

Folks should actually read the opinion. It will be appealed. The injunction takes 14 days to go into effect and blocks further ‘demolition, excavation, and foundation work’ … which should be finished.
1
tingkagol Apr 1, 2026 +1
So he's paying the construction out of pocket? Or using Putin's money?
1
SOMEONENEW1999 Apr 1, 2026 +1
Yeah that’s why you get projects approved before demolition. He has spent so much time as a CEO he never looked into how the government is supposed to work. He never thought anyone would call him on his bullshit…

That a****** starts wars, rapes children and breaks ordinary people lives but voices outrage at generational vandalism he personally came up with?!
