Funny how the regime change and nuclear weapons talk just disappeared.

1 million+ Iranian soldiers entrenched in mountainous home territory would make regime change an expensive and unlikely proposition

Trump is more address brained every day. Have republicans no balls? They know he's turning the US into a 3rd-world shithole country, right?

The way forward now is to put maximum effort in reducing the GOP seats. Put Democrats in the majority for a few decades. At least this kind of shitshow will not happen in their governance. Plus, the GOP itself became something more of a collective aggressor than a functioning government party anyway. Pathetic really.

This was never about regime change or nuclear weapons. It is all about money and oil.

Senator Lindsey Graham has compared a potential seizure of Kharg Island to the **Battle of Iwo Jima** during World War II, which resulted in approximately **6,800 U.S. fatalities**. This comparison has been used both to argue for the feasibility of the mission and to warn of its extreme cost. Military experts warn that while U.S. forces could likely seize the island quickly, holding it would be "fraught with danger":  * **Proximity to Mainland**: Kharg Island is only 15–20 miles off the Iranian coast, placing U.S. troops within range of Iranian **multiple launch rocket systems**, cannon artillery, and high-tech **FPV drones**. * **Asymmetric Warfare**: Iran has reportedly been "laying traps" on the island, including layered defenses, mines, and hardened underground infrastructure. * **Vulnerability of Assets**: Low-flying aircraft, such as **MV-22 Ospreys** used for troop transport and logistics, would be highly vulnerable to surface-to-air threats during transit

It's not just about holding it under fire, which is hard for the reasons you outline. What is achieved by holding it? it won't make the regime collapse. It will spike oil prices. It will result in retaliation elsewhere. So the clock keeps ticking but now oil is $125 a barrel. Still no resolution and the pressure on Trump remains. It has no strategic purpose at all.

Of course he does. Oil is what this has always been about just like it was with Venezuela. He doesn't care about the people and is only doing this to benifit himself and he is already threatening to take over Greenland, Brazil, Cuba, Columbia and Argentina next and is calling them 'Friendly Takeovers' like he thinks he is some President of the World.

We should just call it New-Epstine Island because everyone already knows why he wants a different island in the news headlines. The hugest theater!

its the port on KARG Island and storage...like..seriously... they'll shut off the supply from the mainland and proceed to rocket and drone the island into the Stone Age .....

There’s no oil in Kharg, it arrives in pipelines from the mainland. There’s refineries and a shipping harbor there, but the Iranians will of course shut off the pumps.

Does he know that Iran can just cut the pipeline to the Island? Ofcourse it will hurt not exporting Oil, but he ain't getting a single drop of it by taking it over.

We can take them. but how we are going to transport them? If we take it then it would be a forever war

Just looking at that picture... There is oil storage on the island that will burn for more than a week, obscuring the area in thick black smoke. And there is a settlement with narrow streets, ideal for street fighting. This seems like a risky plan, to say the least

Probably the easiest way to control Iran.

They could destroy the structures on that island to do Iranian oil exports. Without sending troops.

I guess History does Repeat itself. Stealing Iran's natural resources and oppressing (killing sometimes) the Iranian people for Oil Company Profits started this shit in the 50s. The revolution was about taking their country back not any religion. Religious leaders were the only ones fighting for Iranian Citizens.
