For someone who keeps touting 'America first' and doesn't give a shit about anyone else, he sure likes to complain a lot when he doesn't get any help from others.

No, it tracks - he wants ***everyone*** to put “American First”, including non-Americans. He absolutely, 100%, expects the UK government to put the USA ahead of the UK.

To be fair, what he actually wants is for everyone to put "*Trump* First, Trump Second, Trump Third, ... etc", and he leads by example.

Because it worked! >"I do whine because I want to win and I'm not happy about not winning and I am a whiner and I keep whining and whining until I win" Trump, 2015. He has been indulged on quite a few occasions with this tactic. Including his foreign "policy" entanglements. Politicians, Heads of State, humored the guy. The european Commission, including its President, flew to a gaudy **Golf course** to hear him ramble about tarrifs. Only recently have some found a backbone and told him to f*** off already.

Hasn’t seem to have worked much with Canada. We went “okay, guess you don’t need us” and have started making trade deals with better nations the world round. Slowly but surely cutting off any and all reliance on the US. Meanwhile, America says “we don’t need you!!!” While its border towns beg and whine about nearly losing their livelihoods, because Canadians don’t want to visit (CDNs have died in ICE custody already, btw). US liquor companies whining its unfair that Canada doesn’t want to sell their alcohol, and crying they’re losing too much money. Just wait til we start cutting them off from fertilizer lmao. Reap. What. You. Sowe.

LeafsWinBeforeIDie Mar 31, 2026 +60
The fact that canada switched to selling all its excess aluminum production to european customers for the same profit but without new tarrifs within about a month is hilarious. The states having to go to bahrain and uae for its aluminum for more money and way less efficiency is hilarious. The fact that because of the stupid self inflicted "war" those countries had to suspend all exports and now the states could be facing an aluminum shortage rather quickly... Well, war isn't hilarious and the stupidity is costing lives, profits, and world security... but there is a word for this, it just escapes me.
60
Villag3Idiot Mar 31, 2026 +23
And even if the US wants to buy Canadian aluminum again, aluminum is sold months in advance. Everything Canada is making atm had already been sold. The US will be ordering for months later and Canada might prioritize their new EU clients for relations.

How do you start a war without any plan? Gotta be one of the dumbest moves in history. Iran has more leverage today than it did a month ago.
5393
resisting_a_rest Mar 31, 2026 +2996
Trump‘s plan has always been to do whatever he wants. And despite constant failures throughout his life, he always seems to come out unscathed. He’s used to people bailing him out when he gets in trouble. That’s why you don’t elect someone like this to be the president of the United States. He blames everyone else for all the bad things he does and takes credit for good things that others do. He has no moral code or ethics.

"As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.” H.L. Mencken.

I remember first encountering this quote when GW Bush was president and it seemed apt at the time. If only I knew that there were still unfathomable depths we could sink to.
166
CV90_120 Mar 31, 2026 +49
GWB was arguably not dumb though. I thought this at first as well, but after seeing 'Journeys with George' by Alexandra Pelosi, it was very clear he was sharp as a tack. That wasn't the problem. The problem was that he was the face man for a swag of people with agendas, and it was clear as day that he was expecting to continue his previous somewhat relaxed normal state of existence as a kind of car saleman type, till 911. Then the people with agendas hit their stride, especially those with Israel-centric agendas, and the first item on the list for Paul Wolfowitz and Richard Perle as Team Israel was the dissolution of Iraq in an echo of the Yinon Plan. You know the rest . Bush himself was actually surprisingly kind as people go. For all the destruction of Iraq courtesy of him listening to and allowing the Israel lobby free reign, he actually actively saved Africa from an AIDs epidemic, and they still love him there for that.
49
spokomptonjdub Mar 31, 2026 +28
Yeah even then I didn't think he was DUMB dumb; it was all relative to other presidents and some other prominent politicians. He was a poor public speaker and was prone to some less than cunning solutions and short-term thinking, but by pretty much all accounts he's not a dummy as a person, just maybe not the brightest among the other presidents. He's probably with guys like Truman and Reagan in that they aren't among the most well-read, thoughtful, or strategic presidents this country has had, but he also didn't quite possess the intuition those other two had for politics (and obviously didn't have the gift for oratory that Reagan especially had), which is why he completely fumbled his presidency after having the highest approval rating of any president before or since at one point. And compared to Trump, GWB is Einstein.

It's even worse in his second term since he had a few reasonable people in his administration the first time being the adults in the room. This time he's surrounded himself with grifters and yes men who are happy to let Trumps insanity dominate the headlines while they run their own schemes in the background.
58
Sabbathius Mar 31, 2026 +182
I never understood how or why it works for Trump. What makes him so special? I mean, look, I understand pretty privilege. But there's people far prettier than Trump who don't get away with so much. There's smart privilege. But there's people far smarter than Trump who also don't get away with so much. There's wealth privilege, but Trump isn't the richest, not even close. And so on. Basically there's people prettier, richer, smarter and overall better than Trump, but they don't get away with as much. Is Trump just the literal Antichrist or something?
182
Justicar-terrae Mar 31, 2026 +413
It works because his shameless overconfidence plays well to an undereducated audience, especially when backed by propaganda networks disguised as news outlets. If you've ever watched a formal debate between an idiot and an expert, you'll have noticed the terrifying charismatic power of confidence. A fool who speaks plainly and assertively *sounds* like they know all the answers; an expert who methodically approaches complex topics and admits the limits of their knowledge *sounds* like they're overwhelmed by the problem. When asked to choose between the two, ignorant listeners will favor the confident idiot over the cautious expert.
413
ReporterOther2179 Mar 31, 2026 +156
This model is why scientific skeptics no longer enter into ‘debates’ with flat earthers or creationists or other true believers of hokum. Invincible ignorance is so much more compelling than cautious knowledge.
156
preaching-to-pervert Mar 31, 2026 +34
This reminds me of the debate between Cardinal Pell and Richard Dawkins, where you could see even Dawkins himself completely astounded by his opponent's brazen ignorance and refusal to accept that ignorance. It's astounding to watch.

"Never argue with stupid people. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience."
10
vivalamatty Mar 31, 2026 +58
The debate analogy is a good one because the average person doesn't have time /interest /baseline knowledge to understand the topic fully, and it's the exact same with politics. This is why right-wing populism works so well, Trump will identify a problem, state with confidence that he can fix it, provide no actual plan on how to fix it, and that's good enough for some people. If you tried to explain an economic model that could solve the housing crisis to people, their deep thinking brains switch off, but yell about how the immigrants are to blame? The rage part of the brain takes over and that's addicting.

And even before the, "oh man, he's bad at business," he was a known rapist, racist, and conman.
85
SaneMadHatter Mar 31, 2026 +11
We (speaking as an American) don't care that someone is a rapist, racist, and conman (as long as they're white, at least). Indeed, many of us vote for people BECAUSE they are racists. That's how my country rolls, sadly.

"Trump‘s plan has always been to do whatever he wants. And despite constant failures throughout his life, he always seems to come out unscathed. He’s used to people bailing him out when he gets in trouble." You nailed it. As an American, I am willing to bear almost any economic cost to see this a****** - and the assholes who empower him - roast on the world stage. It sucks that everyone else has to suffer - especially other nations - and I am ashamed about it, but if it takes a brutal lesson, then so be it. Bring it on. I've always wanted the best for everyone in America, especially the blue collar and working class, and I have been saddened by their willingness to vote against their own interests. Their surrender to the big lie. But after seeing the way they embrace hate and ignorance, and being mocked as a "lib-tard" for having the audacity to give a shit about someone other than myself and my family, f*** 'em. Let them suffer. Let them be miserable. Watching Trump twist at the end of Iran's string and hearing his lemmings b**** about the increased cost of, well... EVERYTHING, almost makes this a break-even proposition...

What do you mean? "I whip it out and they surrender to my awesome might" is a plan. It's not a great plan, but it's a plan Real irony here though. All that talk about not wanting to fight someone elses war and now he doesn't want to fight his own either
207
rgvtim Mar 31, 2026 +32
We all know Trump listens to right wing media and a lot of that is threaded with jingoism, leaning heaving on the United States military might. It does not take much to surmise that after listening to that trash for years he would end up thinking the whole thing would be over in a few days, and after the Venezuela op, this being reinforced in his mind.

269
redblack_tree Mar 31, 2026 +61
Oh, but he can, and he is already shaping the narrative. In this context, bankruptcy is equivalent to leaving your debts for someone else's to fix. In this case, the horrendous mess with Iran. This is basically what the Orange baboon is threatening, "finishing" the war without opening the strait. But unlike bankruptcies, this is not going away, hence the desperation. Sky high gas and groceries prices that will destroy their troglodyte supporters.

Anyone who is counting on the US to “help” them at this point is stupid anyway. We could join in their very ill-advised and illegal war and when we ask for help at some point, the answer will be, “no.” What is the point of performing our half of some deal with a person and regime who will just happily renege?
177
CalebAsimov Mar 31, 2026 +14
Yep, you have to get payment up front with Trump. He's trying to get something for nothing, he's purely transactional, I would hold out for him to concede something major and immediate.
14
najapi Mar 31, 2026 +117
For someone who prizes himself on his ability to “make a deal”, I’m not sure it was the best idea to make it so abundantly obvious that you had no intention of ever helping your former allies again, before then trying to use that same help, that you said you would never give, as a bargaining chip. The intellect on show is staggering.
117
Assumption-Putrid Mar 31, 2026 +64
It is almost like when you insult your allies every chance you get and compliment your enemies, you allies will be hesitant to continue being your ally. Trump has taken the vast amount of soft power that US had across the world and thrown it away.

43
Eastern_Hornet_6432 Mar 31, 2026 +40
Irrelevant. Trump is merely a symptom of the USA's decay, not the cause. Get rid of him and his voters will simply elect someone even worse. The USA needs to be given up as a lost cause. More importantly, the USA's allies need to quickly disentangle themselves from it, in both information technology and defence techmology. The USA is one hissy fit away from becoming actively hostile.
40
VanceKelley Mar 31, 2026 +26
> The USA needs to be given up as a lost cause. The failure of Americans to act with intelligence and compassion while they live in the wealthiest country in the world foreshadows the fall of humanity. If those with access to encyclopedias of information in the palm of their hands instead use their devices to make themselves more hateful and ignorant, what hope remains for mankind?
26
road_runner321 Mar 31, 2026 +13
He is completely out of leverage to compel, any good will was burned long ago, and he certainly wouldn't be humble enough to ask for a favor even if our allies were willing; everything is transactional with him, but he's got nothing anyone wants so he's reduced to powerless rage.
13
loztb Mar 31, 2026 +1772
If you want the US to help you nowadays, you have to sign over all the mineral rights of your own country for the next 40 years directly to Trump himself. "Art of the deal". You're mostly better off figuring things out yourself, USA will just rob you and put your GDP in a death spiral. Contracts and treaties no longer have any meaning. Find allies in Europe, fence off USA.
1772
ciel_lanila Mar 31, 2026 +380
That's just the first part of "Art of the Deal". "The Art of the Deal" is you do all of that, then ask Trump to hold up his end of the deal, and Trump demands you double your end of the deal or he'll walk with what you've already given him and you'll get nothing. It's weaponized sunk cost fallacy.

Reminder that America is the only country Article 5 of NATO has been invoked to defend. The UK answered that call faithfully and over 450 British personnel paid for it with their lives. We asked for nothing in return yet all we get is contempt from America. So many countries put lives on the line to help the US. They don't want to do the same for those same countries. Trump started bombing a country on a whim with no exist plan or strategic goals. He shat the bed and is now desperate for someone else to wipe his putrid arse. Nobody is willing, so the demented fool is literally having tantrums at 2am. The damage Trump (and the US public who elected him twice, let's not forget the yanks asked for this) has done to America's global standing will echo for generations.

Then, when I brought up that it’s the policies of who was voted into office, she went “oh, well I didn’t vote, so” B**** that makes it MORE your fault, you didn’t care enough to even TRY, and now you complain? I could respect someone who woke up at one point and said “I did wrong, I’m sorry” but “I didn’t do it, why do I have to face consequences?” Is NOT the brilliant excuse you think it is

ShinHayato Mar 31, 2026 +90
If you don’t vote, you have no right to complain

So many people throughout history died fighting for their right to have a say in how they are ruled, yet Americans have become so lazy that they have given up that right and *gloat* about it.
33
ledow Mar 31, 2026 +240
I judge the American people - including the US military generals who all sat in a room and stared at each other in disbelief when he was talking to them, but not one of them said "No" - as much as I judge the regime over there. Sorry, but you're CHOOSING to ALLOW this to CONTINUE every day. Whether you like the British or not... is this what you want your president saying to us? Because as far as we can tell, he has the backing of the US people to do that. Same as he has the backing of the US people to kidnap immigrants, have people shot on the streets, take bribes openly, etc. etc. etc.

142
ChatamKay Mar 31, 2026 +106
We absolutely need to. Uk, Canada, EU, Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), a major free trade bloc covering 11 Indo-Pacific countries which includes Japan and South Korea amongst others. We come together on fair trade, investment and security and the hegemonic system falls. I get that’s not a simple deal to make but, our responsibility as citizens is to elect smart people that are able to broker deals and make alliances that will keep us all safe and allow our economies to thrive.

100% Also threatening to invade Greenland, which would put them in war against us in NATO. Especially worse given that Denmark gave lives for America in Afghanistan.
19
VagueSomething Mar 31, 2026 +194
Aww can Trump not win without our help? Boo hoo, maybe you should have said thank you more and not been a rapey c***. You mocked our help from when NATO enacted Article 5 to help the USA after 9/11. You threatened to invade our NATO friends. You threw bullshit tariffs on us and caused products to become more expensive. You've been funding Anti British lobbying groups to undermine our British laws on Abortion and Equality. You've refused to support us while we help Ukraine despite the US also being a signatory to the same contract that has Britain so eager to help. You didn't help us with Ukraine. You didn't help us with the Falklands. We've been helping you for decades. During modern wars British troops got killed by American "friendly fire" multiple times. During World War 2 American troops literally had a gun fight in England because you were angry we allow black people to use our pubs. I'm so sick of the Anti Western bullshit from MAGA. You're corrupting the West and destroying our culture.

If the American admirals won’t even move their ships into the strait of Hormuz, what makes him think the UK will risk ships? I can’t tell if he’s skipping the daily intel meetings or someone is telling him fake stories about what’s going on in the strait. Seems like he has no idea how hesitant his armed forces are.
581
Persimmon-Mission Mar 31, 2026 +351
He’s a narcissist. He doesn’t listen to anyone or anything. No one can tell him a thing. Remember him redrawing the hurricane path that the meteorologists were predicting?

At least a toilet serves a useful purpose.
11
Corka Mar 31, 2026 +13
He did it because he couldn't possibly admit he was wrong or misspoke about where the hurricane was likely to hit. So he then ends up doing a press talk with a map of the predicted path which was very very clearly edited with a sharpie.
13
scarab1001 Mar 31, 2026 +74
He's not so much skipping the briefings. He's had them dumbed down so much they are now more happy, clappy seal and cat videos. I wish I was joking. His “intel” meetings are two minute tik tok style updates because he doesn’t know how to read. And he is an idiot.
35
Least1Difficulty Mar 31, 2026 +139
The last Iran meeting he was in, he fell asleep, then woke up, interrupted the meeting to go on an insane rant about how sharpies are the best form of pen and sharpies gave him his own his Trump sharpie pen. And only a great deal maker could have gotten a free Trump Sharpe for $5. And then everyone literally laughed and clapped at his genius. It's on youtube, that literally happened.
139
Ghostdog1263 Mar 31, 2026 +84

439
hotpajamas Mar 31, 2026 +93
This is why I think he should be tried for treason. I think he always knew he would start this war, that he would also dump it on someone else, that it would undermine the American position internationally to teach a lesson I guess to our allies, and to strengthen our enemies in their own regions that would return favors specifically to him and his family one day. He is a traitor and a belligerent idiot. I’ve never heard 1 single person say he’s a patriot or that he cares about f****** anything but himself, instead I hear from everyone - former staff, former officials, friends insofar as he’s ever had any, that he’s a whiny insecure maniac that only cares about Trump. A cartoon example of a treasonous worm would only dream of damaging the US to the degree he has. He should in bars.
93
postcardscience Mar 31, 2026 +49
Yeah, we figured out that Trump wouldn’t help us anyway so the time of brown nosing is over.
49

Its the Americans that will be last to realize what damage they have done to themselves.  They have such an apology tour ahead of them.
78
canadianbriguy1 Mar 31, 2026 +72
That doesn’t work with American exceptionalism. Biden didn’t undo all of Trump’s first term tariffs and abuses. It’ll go more along the lines of “hey, he’s gone and we’re Democrat now. We would appreciate if you’d forget that happened but won’t undo the hurt and terms he put on you.”
72
SpareDot8685 Mar 31, 2026 +58
I would think the only threat Europe has is Russia and Trump is best Buds with Putin
58
Univeralise Mar 31, 2026 +266
It’s a shame that our closest ally voted for this guy twice. I didn’t expect the US to help us though, considering they’ve made this situation and the life of the average British person a lot more difficult in the space of a couple of weeks. Atleast it’s damaging reform in the polls, silver linings I suppose. But if it’s taught the rest of the world one thing is, the US doesn’t care. I don’t know what he expected us to do though, after he insulted the people who lost there lives in Afghanistan and then wanted to us to come along with his special military operation.
266
BangkokRios Mar 31, 2026 +129
Funny enough, the US has been very clear (by action and words) that the UK is not its closest ally. Neither is Canada. Or Mexico.

Wgh555 Mar 31, 2026 +35
You put all of those together and you end up with a bloc that massively outsizes the US, 330 million vs 770 million, much more land area and potential. Coordinated right, it could be a stupendously powerful bloc.

You know, the war. But it’s not a war. But it is a war the US have won, though it’s still going on. But they don’t need help, but why aren’t we helping? We should send out ships, but are ships are just toys and aren’t needed, but send them as the US needs them, even though they have won the not war that was started for… reasons.
37
Kaya_kana Mar 31, 2026 +48
The last time the US started a full scale invasion we were all there to help, even though deep down everyone knew the weapons of mass destruction didn't exist. Then, when Europe called the US to its aid in Ukraine the US bailed. Why would we come to your aid now?

the craziest part in all of this, if they do end up with Troops on the ground, if he had acted differently he could have Ukrainian drone and anti drone teams mixed into the ground forces, to counter russian trained Iranian drone teams they will face. Ukraine sees Iran with Ukraine blood on its hands, including launch teams in occupied UA helping to fire missiles at them, UAF has stood side by side with the US in Afghanistan as well before but no Trump is a P.O.S who burns every bridge he is not currently driving over

46

Oh no, the USA won’t “help” by getting more commonwealth soldiers killed for their endless invasions before another American president insists that commonwealth countries never do anything for the use. Whatever will the UK do? /s  So tired of this narrative that the USA has been helping places like the UK when it’s just been exploiting them.
15
TraditionalAlps722 Mar 31, 2026 +124
So trump went, assasinated a world leader, bombed civilian sites including a girls school, caused a global energy crisis, shut down hormuz strait is now walking away declaring a success? I hope every country who got squeezed and is forced to buy american oil because of this makes it a point to divest fully away from American oil for good measure on principle alone.
