How about when the media normalizes this hellscape?

Oleg101 Mar 15, 2026 +63
The sad thing is Republicans think the media is so unfair to them they’re having Brendan Carr basically threaten the entire media.
63
Particular_Milk1848 Mar 16, 2026 +2
Who is Brendan Carr?
2
SpaceMonkeyNation Mar 16, 2026 +13
Trump’s puppet Chairman of the FCC.
13
Karaoke_Dragoon Mar 16, 2026 +8
The 47 year old who looks like he's in his 70s.
8
Hesitation-Marx Mar 16, 2026 +2
HE’S 47?!
2
WuTang4thechildrn Mar 16, 2026 +2
Holy shit I thought he was 60 at least

How about when the buzz word normalize is tragically overused.

The idea that society needs Hollywood to be the ones to hold the administration's feet to the fire is ridiculous. We should allow art to speak for itself. For tangible change to happen, is up to the society at large. Not just a sound bite and headline of a director or actor calling out things we already know are happening. Nana Gertrude & Uncle Larry's mind isn't going to change if Tom Hanks says Trump is bad.
162
f-150Coyotev8 Mar 15, 2026 +27
This happens all the time. Celebrities speak their mind, and then we all get reminded that nobody gives a shit about what they think. We saw this happen on a scale that has never happened before in 2016.
27
juniorone Mar 15, 2026 +6
When Kamala Harris announced she was running for president, I told my friends it’s over. USA will never vote for a woman or another black person. As she became more and more popular with celebrities, I was like “wow maybe I was wrong.” You’d see her in every talk show, late night show, radio show. Endorsements from everywhere. Then I forgot that a movie I watched years ago was an actual documentary rather than a parody. Welcome to the good old U S A of Idiocracy.
6
FictionFantom Mar 16, 2026 +3
The USA will have a woman president someday. The first however will probably be Republican.
3
TipRare1321 Mar 16, 2026 +1
How could anyone ever Republican again after this shitshow?
1
FictionFantom Mar 16, 2026 +5
How did anyone vote for them again after tanking the economy and waging multiple generational wars in the 00s?
5
saturnalia365 Mar 16, 2026
Because Obama didn’t deliver the hope and change he promised. Just more of the same.

juniorone Mar 16, 2026 +3
Except this shit show succeeded taking over. Every department is infiltrated with yes men including the supreme court
3
-Kalos Mar 16, 2026 +1
Grifters love that party for personal enrichment
1
WuTang4thechildrn Mar 16, 2026
It won’t be a Republican. Have you really took time to look at their platform?
0
FictionFantom Mar 16, 2026 +1
I think after MAGA implodes there will be a new version of the party that emerges and they will try and get as many new voters as possible with new and unexpected tactics. "See? We're not so bad anymore. We're electing a woman."
1
WuTang4thechildrn Mar 16, 2026 +2
I think it is extreme difficult to find that charismatic leader to unite people under one ideology. Trump and Obama were able to do that. I don’t see anyone on the Republican side being able to do that anytime soon. Now as far as your post. I can see there being a split amongst Republicans. You will have those dedicated to the project 2025 shut and then you will have more moderates. A woman won’t win with the 2025 crowd and the moderates won’t initially have the numbers. The problem for Democrats is that right now it’s all about hating Trump but they have got to find a national platform. That will attract the far left whole still being able to win in states like NC, GA, and VA. Thats not easy
2
-Kalos Mar 16, 2026 +1
"Stars should shut up. Nobody cares what you think." - Gene Simmons who's always talking pro MAGA politics
1
RaindropsInMyMind Mar 16, 2026 +3
The only thing that matters is that they have influence, which makes them important, it doesn’t matter what their occupation is. Influential people are members of our society. Politicians really do not like when influential people go against them or a reason, because it’s really bad for them. Part of change happening is influential people being involved in it.
3
ClosedContent Mar 16, 2026 +2
Also “One Battle After Another” is essentially an Anti-Trump film in all but name. The bad guys are essentially ICE… and it just won Best Picture and most of the awards.
2
hiptitshooray Mar 15, 2026 +228
Trump wins when our spineless Democratic leadership does f*** all, I’m not so worried what the Hollywood elite says or doesn’t say at a f****** award ceremony. What a stupid headline.
228
iaposky Mar 15, 2026 +30
Agreed!!!
30
Kind-Armadillo-2340 Mar 16, 2026 +8
I would say he wins when people blame the out of party power for the actions of the in party power. Just think of the amazing gift you’re giving him right now. He’s totally f****** up the country and you’re blaming the Democratic Party. Stupid af.
8
WildRabbitz Mar 15, 2026 +8
Watch out! Jeffries is going to do another super long speech and then he'll vote with Republicans.
8
CJspangler Mar 15, 2026 +3
Yep nothing perfectly resembles democratic leadership thanks jefferies BS speeches and then does nothing 2nd to that is Booker in NJ now singing to the high heavens and every media outlet there should be zero taxes on first $75,000 in income . Maybe he should call his fellow democrats who control NJ and share the message so they can pass it at the state level first
3
WuTang4thechildrn Mar 16, 2026 +2
They win when all we as people do is b**** on SM with very few willing to make a damn sacrifice on the real world to show their discontent.
2
manical1 Mar 15, 2026 +3
agree, but we all let trump win
3
TokiDokiPanic Mar 15, 2026 -9
But Walz wrote him a letter.
-9
LosFelizGuy2018 Mar 15, 2026 +6
What did you do? Make a strongly written sign and stand around other people with strongly written signs? I’m not knocking protests, but Waltz has about as much power as you do right now. We dont have the senate or the house. There’s not a lot ANYONE can do right now.
6
NickCostanza Mar 15, 2026 +19
What are you clowning on Walz for? Trump invaded his city and killed American citizens. Blame the right people.
19
TokiDokiPanic Mar 15, 2026 -6
You can blame Trump and also ridicule democrat “decorum.”
-6
NickCostanza Mar 15, 2026 +11
“Please stop killing my citizens” Wow what an a******
11
Burnt_and_Blistered Mar 15, 2026 +6
WTF is he supposed to do?!
6
SaintCambria Mar 15, 2026 -2
Organize a rebellion. If it's as bad as people say it is, that's what opposition should be. Either things aren't so bad, or the "opposition" ain't so opposed. Use your brain to decide which.
-2
Burnt_and_Blistered Mar 15, 2026 +4
Which is about all he *can* do.
4
TokiDokiPanic Mar 15, 2026 -6
He could definitely do more.
-6
hiptitshooray Mar 15, 2026 -5
Strongly worded, I'm sure.
-5
Genericnameandnumber Mar 16, 2026 -1
That’s cause the democrats basically support what’s happening
-1
jpl220 Mar 15, 2026 -4
Don’t forget they’ll just write another sternly worded letter and hold small press gaggle. That will certainly make a difference.
-4
Abe2sapien Mar 15, 2026 +16
No, we don’t need celebrities to be our saviors. They live a different life already. It’s the everyday people who need to step up and demand change from our government.
16
Practical-Level-6265 Mar 15, 2026 +51
Yes because there’s nothing that causes true change like the speech of a Hollywood elite
51
leaC30 Mar 15, 2026 +17
When are we going to stop looking for people who play pretend for a living to speak for those of us who don't play pretend.
17
Battystearsinrain Mar 16, 2026 +1
Speaking about the f****** dipshit that got famous for saying, “you’re fired!” And pretending? Maybe you can get ahold of david dennison and john barron to see what they think.
1
Kaiisim Mar 16, 2026 +1
Oh you want one of those special protests where the people with the most status and money don't get involved! People on the left have a steadfast denial that we are humans that are influenced by things like celebrities, and that's why we are losing, trying to individually educate every person in the world
1
notthatgeorge Mar 15, 2026 +2
Nobody speaking for you, they have a right to express their opinion as American citizens just as much as anybody else does, including you. Some people are just pissed that their platform is larger
2
leaC30 Mar 15, 2026 +4
They have the right to speak, by all means. Their platform doesn't change the worries of regular people. They can grandstand if they want but when they go back to their gated communities, nothing changes for the majority of people. Who was the last celebrity to speak that got a bill passed from that Oscar speech? This pressure to speak should be placed on our elected officials not on entertainers who choose when to dip in and out of certain causes.
4
notthatgeorge Mar 15, 2026 -2
When was the last time anything you said got a bill passed?
-2
leaC30 Mar 15, 2026 +1
Same ratio as an Oscar speech. I just focus on my elected officials instead of entertainers.
1
notthatgeorge Mar 15, 2026 +2
Let us know when you're running for office, I'll give to your campaign. Until then, EVERY American has the right to speak out in whatever form and length necessary
2
leaC30 Mar 15, 2026 +2
You will!? Really, I will hold you to this contract, stranger.
2
notthatgeorge Mar 15, 2026 +1
I absolutely will, you have my word!
1
leaC30 Mar 15, 2026 +1
Aww thanks 😊
1
No-Lead-6769 Mar 15, 2026 +14
I cant read the article but if it matches the headline that's a pretty much out of touch take. Sometimes shit like that hurts whatever cause you're fighting for
14
Safe_Discount1638 Mar 16, 2026 +4
Who gives a shit about Oscar’s anymore? The academy is crumbling and Hollywood talent pool is spreading around the world. The Emmy’s have more weight nowadays.
4
generatorland Mar 16, 2026 +3
We don't need Hollywood to tell us what we can see for ourselves.
3
Wazula23 Mar 15, 2026 +30
Do we seriously need to be reminded things are shitty in every TV show, news broadcast, and public event? Can we escape the noise ANYWHERE?
30
BiggsIDarklighter Mar 16, 2026 +3
People let Trump win. So yeah, this is the punishment. If Harris was President we could have all gone back to normal everyday lives. We could have enjoyed the Oscars without having to always think about how bad Trump is screwing all of us. But people let Trump win.
3
sally_says Mar 15, 2026 +1
If you want people to STFU about how horrible life is, move to Dubai or North Korea where that's illegal.
1
AudioRecluse Mar 15, 2026 -7
That’s exactly what they want. Go put your head in the sand. When you pull it out, you’re not going to be in Oz. You’ll be in HELL!
-7
Wazula23 Mar 15, 2026 +2
I'm pretty sure I can stick my head in the sand for a four hour award show.

My dude, no one is ignoring anything. I am having this shit shoved in my face constantly every single day. The Oscars are about movies. Maybe it's allowed to be about movies.
2
Prize-Flamingo-336 Mar 15, 2026 +7
Actors aren’t elected officials. They do not have power to govern, make and enforce laws, or collect taxes. We have people for that. Mayors. Governors. Senators. Reps. These are the people that not only should be speaking up about Trump and use *the powers they have* to do their goddam job!! Who cares what George Clooney got to say. He’s a citizen just like I am.
7
notthatgeorge Mar 15, 2026 +4
Right, George Clooney is a citizen just like you are and he has every right to speak out just as you do
4
R2DKK Mar 16, 2026 +1
This is why I’m always confused when people either 1. Get angry about an actor’s political opinions or 2. Get angry about an actor not divulging every political opinion they have.
1
AudioRecluse Mar 15, 2026
The Billionaires control EVERYTHING!!! That’s what this administration has done. Given the power of decision making to the RICH. And that POS in DC is collecting royalties.
0
zeph2 Mar 15, 2026 -1
the actor can bring attention /spotlight to important issues thats why Trump wants them silenced
-1
Shag1166 Mar 15, 2026 +2
Many will trash the war, at the least. I used to drive all the award shows, up until 3 years ago. I have numerous friends that still do, so I am watching some of the arrivals now, and a few people on the E Channel ha e made some comments.
2
vroart Mar 15, 2026 +2
Okay, reality check, how much did Sinners make? $280,000,000 a story of a white vampire trying to steal the music from a young black blues musician in order to control the world. A film thats accessible for action fans and awards crowd. And they want to pretend it’s not political enough?
2

GongTzu Mar 15, 2026 +3
Everyone need to be loud these days, even actors.
3
NearbyClub4717 Mar 15, 2026 +3
On the contrary, he wins when they speak. It energizes his base and makes normal people roll their eyes. No one wants to hear these people preach at their Hollywood jerk-off party.
3
Smrtguy85 Mar 15, 2026 +2
It’s a damned if they do, damned if they don’t situation. If they do speak out, then their privileged babies talking down to peasants from their castles. If they don’t, then they are being cruelly silent and not using their privilege to fight. I don’t begrudge them what ever choice they decide to make.
2
barf_seller Mar 15, 2026 +2
If Hollywood was silent during the Golden Globes WHILE Iran regime was massacring 30k of their own people, I don't really want to hear shit about this conflict
2
jtd0000 Mar 15, 2026 +2
Can’t we have one thing without controversy. It’s getting old.
2
Nay-Nay385 Mar 15, 2026 +2
Who gives a c*** what Hollywood thinks- they are ACTORS! For F-sake. They’ve had bad ratings due to the actors political views taking over the award shows for their performance in a movie. We need a break from politics when being entertained. NY TIMES is always so out of touch!
2

1
ECKohns Mar 16, 2026 +1
When Hollywood tries to “speak up” against Trump, it has the opposite effect of what’s desired. It makes people support him more. His success is an act of defiance against the people seen as “elite.” I’m not saying actors can’t have opinions or that they must keep their mouth’s shut. But they should ask themselves “Will me speaking about this actually help? Or could it hurt?” Some people actually tied Taylor Swift’s endorsement of Kamala Harris as making them think worse of Harris. Obviously this doesn’t mean people need to be silent. But you have to be smarter how to advance things.
1
malektewaus Mar 15, 2026 +1
Counterpoint: Hollywood has zero moral and intellectual credibility and actors probably hurt their pet causes more than they help them. Most normies think, with some justification, that Hollywood people are subhuman filth.
1
Competitive_Will_134 Mar 16, 2026 +1
Counterpoint: this sentiment is only expressed by people who disagree with what a Hollywood figure is saying.
1
TheSleevedAlien Mar 15, 2026 +1
As a staunch Trump hater, nobody gives a shit what these people think. They’ve completely lost any influence in society and are completely coping if they think their spotlight has any meaningful influence over anyone who watches this self serving slop. It’s not even a joke anymore it’s just pathetic.
1
Unending-Flexionator Mar 15, 2026 +1
So wat are you doing watching the Oscars?!
1
One-Pangolin-3167 Mar 16, 2026 +1
No. We all win when the self-righteous just say their thanks and leave.
1
Competitive_Will_134 Mar 16, 2026 +1
Eh, I’d be happy for a celebrity to say Trump is wrong to launch an illegal war.
1
MrEhcks Mar 16, 2026 +1
He already won in 2024 and no amount of your bitching, crying, and whining is going to do anything. You’re gonna wait until 2028 and vote again like everyone else is going to. You can be mad and cry until then, but he’s not gonna leave the chair until then and you’re gonna have to deal with it lol
1
gibbojab Mar 16, 2026 +1
The majority of celebrities only care about their next dollar, they aren’t affected by this like us struggling to buy milk. The voice of unity should come from an anonymous shout, not someone fine tuning their pr image. Idealizing celebrities is what this country where we are now.
1

Wha a tone deaf brain dead article. When need leaders with a spine that take action. Celebrities offering their thoughts does nothing for anyone.
