Also previous betrayals of the Kurds both by the US in general and by Trump personally.

One of the main reasons was, from the article:
>In Washington, American lawmakers were getting warnings from the foreign minister of Turkey. Turkey has its own Kurdish separatist movement, and the foreign minister, Hakan Fidan, was [urging the U.S.](https://x.com/etkiIihaberyeni/status/2030350742205456564?s=20) to oppose any involvement of Kurdish fighters in a cross-border operation. Fidan warned this could stir new instability not just in Iran, but also in Turkey and even Syria, according to a source briefed on those meetings.
Other sources said Erdogan directly relayed this message to Trump.
>Meanwhile, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who is close to Trump, told the US president that Ankara would not tolerate Kurdish independence anywhere in the region.

Edit: Kurds tried to enter Iran early January. Turkey told Iran.
# Exclusive: Armed Kurdish groups sought to cross into Iran from Iraq, sources say

As everybody with a brain knows as that has been the Turkish stance for ages by now. And additionally Trump himself abandoned the Kurds in Syria so Turkey could fight them.

Trump's DOJ also just gave a million dollars to Flynn for "malicious prosecution"... After he was convicted of acting as a Turkish agent.
And, of course, they dropped corruption charges against former mayor Adams...stemming from his ties to Turkey.
"Close to Trump" is understating it.

the usas history of betrayals of rebel factions like the Arabs after WW1, the Vietcong after ww2, the muhajedeen in Afghanistan, etc etc on and on to present day it's bewildering that any factions ever still think an American alliance is a good idea long term

The Kurds have been treated like a pawn chess piece by all her neighbors and so called allies, there is no surprise that they steered clear of this conflict.

Kurds have been used and burned by so many different regional powers. So many promises and threats of all sorts... they can't take a step in any direction without some crazy shit going on.
Being used to try and deal with ISIS, being used to keep Turkey occupied, being used to try and deal with Iran... is it any wonder they aren't just jumping up and down at every random opportunity?
And what with Israel clearly not interested in doing much more than bombing bits of Iran, and the US being so wildly unreliable and incapable of completing anything under the Trump/Hegseth mess, they might just want to hide for a while.

Kurds do not trust the US, they have been betrayed before. That is the primary reason. If they ally with the US it is because it was convenient to do, not that they feel supported by any Americans.

I think they want what this war could have been, what it was kinda projected to be, but not what it is actually becoming.
They might have been sold on an idea of regime change, and US/Israeli soldiers marching on Tehran doing all the dirty work, but instead got this.....mess

Not sure that the world is safer after this conflict. Iran has learned to weaponize Hormuz and will use that in future conflicts/negotiations.
Maybe they cant develop nukes anymore, but they've certainly got a more powerful weapon now.

Yea Trump really screwed up badly here. Though at the same time Iran's new weapon does have an expiration date(likely measured in decades still) as countries will likely both start to create alternate supply routes bypassing the strait and also an accelerated pivot away from fossil fuels to ensure their own energy security in the future.

Looks like Iran was very prepared for this, I guess they have a lot of allies & spies in Iraq.
