Leftists aren't nice. That's always been a Liberal thing. Who would even say that? Mamdani?

Bernie? He'd just pivot to his usual talking about how peoole dislike billionaires and ignore it if not asked.

So, is this a way to get the it to the Supreme Court before the midterms? And since it’s probably too late for them to review it, he gets to upend any election results. Either by taking the ballots for "safeguarding" or by contesting them?
Isn’t there an entire state that votes entirely by mail? And it seems like a perfect time to cripple the postal system too.

As a Colorodan, it's amazing and I highly recommend it. I get my ballot roughly three weeks before election day, and I can return it at any point so long as it is received by 7pm on election day (postmark dates are irrelevant for us). The counties have numerous secure ballot drop boxes, mine has over 50 of them. I have never used USPS for ballot return to avoid the potential of it getting lost in the mail. I return mine pretty quick, so that sudden illness, an accident, or bad weather can't stop me from voting.
Going back to in person voting would feel like giving up all the lightbulbs in my house and replacing them with candles and oil lamps.

1
Hyperion1144Apr 1, 2026

Yes, Americans with Disabilities Act requires some kind of in-person voting to be universally available to anyone who needs it.
"Entirely vote by mail" means that, by law, vote by mail is automatic and the default assumed voting option in the state.
And there are eight states that meet this standard.

AGorgeousComedyApr 1, 2026
+1
No, he cannot direct the USPS to withhold ballots. It is an independent agency.
1
frankie_donkiebrainsApr 1, 2026
+1
Independent in the sense that it pays for itself. It's covered by a board that is handpick by the president. Trump has two current board members and 5 nominees waiting to be installed. He has political control over the USPS.
1
AGorgeousComedyApr 1, 2026
+1
There is an Independent chair, a Republican vice-chair and two Democratic governors currently on the board appointed by Biden. The board can have no more than 5 governors from the sitting president's party. He nominated 3 Republican nominees recently and resent a previous nominee. They all still have to be confirmed by the Senate.
He does not have political control over the USPS. Stop fear mongering and spreading misinformation.
1
frankie_donkiebrainsApr 1, 2026
+1
There are two current governors put there by trump with 3 more nominated by trump. That would make 5 governors put there by trump. He would have full control of that board. I'm sorry you can't see that.
Also USPS has to follow federal laws and EO's. They are exempt from procurement and some federal labor laws, but have to follow all other federal laws. If the EO (or concurrent eo) says to not deliver ballots, they will have to follow that order.
1
AGorgeousComedyApr 1, 2026

He didn't think it through, but his handlers certainly did. The point isn't to eliminate mail-in voting because they know they can't do that, at least outside of red states with Trump-sucking majorities in their governors mansions. This is to sow confusion. This is to get as many people as possibe to assume they can't vote by mail so they try to vote in person, at which any and all excuses will be used to deny their vote. The smaller the number of votes, the easier the numbers are to manipulate.

The U.S. Constitution's Elections Clause (Article I, Section 4, Clause 1) grants primary authority over the "Times, Places and Manner" of federal elections to state legislatures, with Congress able to override or alter those rules by law. It's surprising how many on this thread seem unaware that entire states use mail voting... California, Colorado, Hawaii, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Vermont, and Washington.

None of these states are 100% vote by mail.

Well... Not exactly true. Oregon does not have in-person voting and hasn't had that for about 20 years. They have drop-boxes. You get your ballot via US Mail. They take their time to fill it out and at their convenience they put in a drop-box. Oregon hasn't had any issues with this either and it works. I've spoken to many people in Oregon and they love it.......

Yes, for instance the Americans with Disabilities Act requires some kind of in-person voting to be universally available to anyone who needs it.
"Entirely vote by mail" means that, by law, vote by mail is automatic and the default assumed voting option in the sate.
And there are eight states that meet this standard. There is a definition for a vote-by-mail state and isn't the one you are trying to use.

My wife and I are planning on voting in-person for the first time since the 2018 midterms for this reason.
Jersey has mail-in voting and we use it all the time since there is a drop box not too far from our house.

Voting day should be a national holiday and on a Monday, so people can actually educate themselves about candidate specifics over the weekend.

Right now election day is on Tuesday, so you have the weekend plus one day to educate yourself. I personally believe you should have educated yourself on the canidates and issues wayyy before election day rolls around.

Arizona's Secretary of State nailed it when he pointed out that mail-in voting has actually kept Republicans in power in Arizona for years. This isn't about fraud, it's about suppressing votes in blue states like California, Colorado, and Washington that have successful universal mail voting systems.

Some things to understand about this order which are really disturbing. First, SCOTUS has already ruled that USPS is under no obligation to actually deliver your mail. That would include your election ballot. Second, in order for this EO to even work, states would have to send their voter rolls to USPS, which means states would have to comply with the order to submit their voter rolls to the federal government or the post office couldn't deliver any of their ballots. Third, vote by mail states (like mine) no longer have the infrastructure to just willy nilly switch back to in person voting.
Its really insidious. Its designed to evade a lot of court challenges and still accomplish the goal of quashing mail voting for a lot of people AND simultaneously suppress the vote.
I'm so sick of this shit.

States wouldn't have to send their voter roll, as only people on a list (government and military) would be allowed to do mail in voting.
Edit: just to be clear, I'm against this and it will be challenged in court. But it does not require states buy-in for USPS to follow through.

It's blatantly unconstitutional, so there will be an injunction blocking it by the end of next week, and preventing states from complying.

It’s not his job to interfere or promote his own voting agenda from the white house. That’s a state right, you know the thing he kept screaming about during his campaign.
The states are responsible for their own voting systems. Thats not his job. He needs to stay out of it and leave the voting process to the states, the way it was designed and meant to be.
This is election interference and voter fraud at the highest level. He wants to stay in power and will do whatever illegal thing he has to do in order to stay in power.

>The President also ordered USPS to put ballots in secure envelopes with unique trackable barcodes.
Just one of the idiotic parts of this order. The USPS isn't mailing ballots to people, they're delivering them. They're not going to put aside all of the ballots from every jurisdiction in America and repackage them in new envelopes.

They may not be able to stop it if USPS ordered ballots destroyed. States have no power over USPS. I wonder if ICE will be sent to steal drop boxes.

This should scare everyone. Trump controls USPS and has shown he is willing to ignore the courts. Not only that, but SCOTUS has said we can't sue USPS so holding them accountable when they screw up isn't even an option at this point. They basically can deliver or not deliver ballots based on their own set of standards.

I don't believe the intent here is to manage vote totals through disenfranchisement. I believe that Putin is coaching the White House through the steps of turning US elections into what Putin oversaw the implementation of in Russia and is used to keep him in power through the "Putin Majority" over the decades. After all, immediately after coming out of the meeting with Putin in Alaska last year, Trump started railing about getting rid of mail ballots, even though the meeting was *supposed* to be only about the war in Ukraine.
In Russia, the crippling of mail ballots isn't about preventing them or managing the system in a way that only allows votes to be counted from supporting citizens. It's about managing the audit trail. When manipulating the tabulation and/or reporting of vote totals, things have to be believable enough that you don't have riots in the streets. (Unless you're North Korea, but that's another story entirely).
If the results of in-person totals are like 60% in favor of Putin, but the totals of mail ballots are like 85% *against* Putin, this creates a situation that calls both segments into question, since ballot-type shouldn't make *that* much of a difference in the ratios. Basic statistics teaches is that decent sample chunks from a given population should largely be representative of the population as a whole.
At that point, reasonable people would call for a recount and audit of both the in-person and the mail ballots. BUT, properly implemented mail voting provides for an easily verifiable paper trail all the way back to the stored ballots themselves, where voting machines (especially ones built by companies with vested interests in one party winning) do not. This means that when the mail ballot audit shows to be accurate and the machine audit has breaks in the chain of submitting->recording->tabulation->reporting that can't be physically verified, it makes the 85% *against* Putin look a lot more credible than the 60% in favor of him does. This leads either to electoral reforms that see the autocrat lose power, or a situation in which the autocrat now has to openly refuse fair elections and risk uprisings that could *also* see them lose power.
So what to do about it if you're an aspiring autocrat? Destroy mail voting, of course. I'll note here that "destroy" doesn't mean eliminate completely, since that would cause heavy resistance in itself. "Destroy" here means to alter it in such a way that you can manipulate the paper trails itself. To do this, you need a way to filter out ballots of people who are likely to vote against you and make sure they aren't submitted in the first place.
The first step here is to create a fairly reliable list of voters according to party registration in order to be able to identify ballots coming from people who might oppose you.
>Sec. 2. Establishment and Transmission of State Citizenship Lists
Whoopsie... I'm sure it's just coincidence that both the SAVE Act and Trump's new EO (quoted above) provide for the creation and use of "voter lists" that have never needed to be created before now, using every state's voter rolls... right? And I'm sure this has nothing to do with the demands by DHS and the DOJ over the past year to state-level officials that they turn over their voter rolls in order to "match against non-citizens" or whatever... right? Or the time they told MN that they'd stop the ICE raids that killed 2 US citizens if MN agreed to turn over their voter rolls... right?
Anyway, next you need a way to effectively sort ballots according to whether they come from voters who might support you vs who might oppose you. In rigged systems, they force you to use ballots and/or envelopes with individualized identifiers on them so that they can have postal workers cause "processing errors" for ballots originating from households registered as voters of opposition parties. (You don't even need to have postal workers "in on it" for this to work, you just code the identifiers and/or the sorting software to throw an error and discard every 2-3 units with the "faulty" identifier on it.)
But in the US, the only sorting done to mail ballots, whether automatic or manual, is according to 1) the address they come from and 2) the address they're going to. No other "identifiers", so this wouldn't work. *Unless* such an identifier were introduced as mandatory on all mail ballots.
>Unique ballot envelope identifiers, such as bar codes, enable confirmation that only citizens receive and cast ballots, reducing the risk of fraud and protecting the integrity of Federal elections.
Whoopsie again... look what's included in the new EO! Individualized barcode identifiers that would make it possible to filter submissions according to who was on the "approved" lists.
Now, MAYBE these systems and process changes could be used to make sure non-citizens aren't voting by mail. But when we compare the **near-zero** times we've ever had that happen to the very real possibility that a bad actor in power could easily use these same systems to rig the system in their favor, reasonable people in free democracies choose a system like the one the US currently has in place over the one being prosed as the new system here. These changes move our electoral process much closer toward the level of national control that Putin exerts over his own system, and that alone should make this a non-starter for every single American, no matter which side of the aisle you're on.
