The US president’s tactic could put this fall’s elections at risk. A supreme court decision could go far to protect them

The intelligent American recognizes this immediately. It’s the MAGA Americans who fall for it every f****** time.

They not only fall for it they defend it. Defend it loudly and stupidly

I have heard many an American politician or pundit credit Americans with having "finely tuned bullshit detectors." I originally thought that phrase meant they were able to detect it and avoid it or at the very least d******* it. Now I know that meant they were seeking it, like a metal detector seeks metal, or a piglet seeks the teat.

The goldfish-brained "independent/centrist" Americans that don't pay attention and yet end up deciding each election also fall for this shit

What decides US presidential elections has long been The Party of NonVoters. Last time, Trump won with 77M votes to Harris' 55M. But both tallies were dwarfed by the 94M voters who did not show up at the polls. This is the most important truth about American elections, but most people are too busy re-litigating theories about different segments of the active voters to notice.

Why are you pretending this is all about being fooled? If you don't think that most of the people who voted for this aren't pleased \*because\* he's doing things the way they want, I dunno what to tell you. It isn't being fooled when you think the only reason America has been losing wars is because we "artificially restrain ourselves from the strongest tactics" because war crimes are just labels for things that hold America back.

When you their view their comments in the conservative group you see first hand a group of people living in an alternate reality but they’re so confident they are right about everything. It’s just bizarre to witness their stupidity.

They were raised in a sheltered household and church. They never learned critical thinking. All they were taught is to “have faith” and “do right” by “Jesus” and to protect “family traditions” from “outsiders” (ask me how I know, actually please don’t)

They may recognize it, but they have no defense against it.

They have no choice. Intelligent discourse has been outlawed because it shows that they're wrong.

Declare enough fake emergencies, and some of those emergencies become real! like... the Iran emergency, or the inflation emergency, or the budget emergency!

bobcat1911 Mar 27, 2026 +16
Or the disclosure of the Epstein files...

bumpy_disposition Mar 27, 2026 +3
Heck yeah! We here have enough to piss us all off, but not enough to get us motivated. The EpsteinFiles should be the damn topping point. Pedophilia is definitely a trend in the republikkkan backed GOP.

This was and has always been the republican plan to keep power. How many times have they used emergencies to get their way on judicial confirmations, budget, government surveillance, etc?

Lorkdemper Mar 27, 2026 +4
"Migrant caravans" every single election cycle come to mind. "Election security" emergencies that seem to magically go away after Republicans make gains. "Debt/inflation/cost of living crises" that only exist when Democrats are in power. Hint: the emergencies that actually exist are orchestrated by conservatives. Every single time.

Create problem. Point at big scary problem. Blame problem on someone else. Spend lots of money on problem. Stop the problem you created. Tell everyone how smart you are for solving the problem you created. Then repeat. Keep the circus moving.

This has been Bannon and Miller's strategy from the beginning (used by Hitler's mouthpiece Goebbels). Flood the airways with at least 3 chaotic announcements per day to keep people scared confused and divided. It works.

That has been analyzed already back in ww2. It was Hitler's strategy. Steve Bannon used it already in Trump's first term: just flood with sh*t. Don't ever let the citizens rest. Everyday is a new shock. Always blame the opponent. The bigger lie the better. They have been studying this at Herritage and are repeating it.

>With such a dishonest figure in the White House, the supreme court should see its role as not just saying what the law is, but saying what the truth is. Misses the point rather badly. First, it isn't just that lower courts "get first crack" at establishing the facts, it's that the higher courts are not generally free to disregard facts established by those lower courts. Second, it's not just a precedent thing. This Supreme Court, deeply corrupt as several of its members are, and vestigial as its fact finding apparatus is, would just as soon find a Fox News report to be true as go out and do any detailed observation of real conditions. The Court's decisions already portray its version of "what the truth is". They portray a reality where "the truth" is that the Founders wanted a monarchical President with broad immunity for legal consequences, where "the truth" is that states run their own elections except when the court feels it gets to decide, not the state, who is really an insurrectionist, and where "the truth" is that no amount of abrogating the rights of disfavored groups really counts as a civil rights concern. Offering more power to a criminal and compromised Court is part of how we got here in the first place.

It's just the politics version of "I declare bankruptcy" which was a tool he employed often

I still like hearing that Iran is winning… I’m pretty sure the oil crisis in the Middle East was planned… It’s severely helping western oil producers. Canada has got all our allies covered when it comes to crude oil and LNG. Buy Canadian! 🇨🇦

The real problem is : OK, so you've declared an emergency. For PR reasons you also need to show that you've solved your emergency while it is still fresh in people's memories, that way you reinforce your reputation as "master of the deal". To do this you have to achieve some sort of improvement in the situation you created and/or chose to throw a spotlight on. But when your entire team is made up of incompetent ideologues and sycophants, who only care about preserving their own position on the dear leaders "Nice" list, it is incredibly unlikely that any actual progress will be made, especially in such a short time. So you find yourself needing to distract the people from the thing you just distracted them to. And to avoid the cry wolf syndrome, you cannot just replace it with a repetitive crisis. You must do something bigger so they cannot focus on the old thing even if they wanted to. It's no surprise that this constant need to escalate emergencies generally leads to people who start to think that fabricating a casus belli and starting a war is not such a bad idea. In a war, everyone bands together, usually even a significant percentage of the opposition party grudgingly supports the leadership. So here we are, one small step away from a ground war with perhaps the most formidable avowed foe of the US, and it's not going well... What's worse is he can't even just capitulate and end the war, because then the conversation quickly moves to "Why did we do it in the first place?" "How are we better off now?" or the ultimate problem for him "OK, war is over, so now we can get back to the Epstein files."

So, he’s essentially just escalated crapping his pants to a global level.

Wow…didn’t I read this strategy in a book published in 1949? And in several movie themes?
1
Reasonable_Assist_63 Mar 28, 2026 +1
And I think he will use the strategy to try and cancel elections.
1
devllen05 Mar 28, 2026 +1

Skeletor-P-Funk Mar 28, 2026 +1
To be fair, in declaring his fake emergencies, he usually finds some way to turn them into a reality. Complain about voting --> introduces SAVE act, disenfranchises 70+ million voters. Complain about illegals --> tears people away from their homes and shoots innocents dead in the streets. Complain about inflation --> introduces tariffs that destroy American jobs, further driving up inflation, now farmers have no one to sell crops to. Declares gas prices too high --> starts war in Middle East, drives up oil. Declares that Biden is too concerned with Israel --> Starts war in Middle East, on behest of Israel. Declares government a swamp to be drained --> instills incompetent cronies in every position, weakening the entire government with TV host figureheads who can't run anything. There's tons of stuff I missed, sure, but Trump "declaring fake emergencies" usually leads to real ones. He's the anti-Christ.
