China will, they already stated they have been around for 5000 years without any America and were doing just fine. They have zero need to appease, they are expecting a nice warm sloppy rim job from dump.

They know he is so stupid they can tell him they will appease him and then just not do it. Look at how tight rare earths still are after supposedly getting them flowing again last year.

About 15% from Iran and more from surrounding countries. Their higher import was also because of preparations on possible conflict surrounding Iran. In short term they are well prepared. In the long term it will cause economic damage, just like about any country in the world. China does not prefer this blockade. But what they fear more is US control of the region and resources. So they will aim for a solution that does nothing more than opening the strait. Which would mean a loss for the US, Trump and his ego.

China will get just the oil from elsewhere. They increased their imports from Saudi and Russia iirc.

The easy comparison is Ukraine. While the US has ways to pressure Ukraine and cash in favors, it doesn't make Ukraine a puppet or a passive actor that just does what they're told (very obvious now that the current administration is hostile to Zelensky, yet Ukraine keeps fighting on). Same with Iran and China. I'd probably argue that this is revealing of "superpower mentality", seeing the world as a board where a few big players make the "real" decisions and everyone else falls in line. The idea that if a middle or small power does or doesn't do something, it must be because they're getting the support and/or greenlight of a superpower, their individual agency be damned. 

And Trump isn’t really trying to end the war, is he? He’s got this market manipulation thing going on, Natenyahu is having too much fun killing Lebanese and Palestinians, and MAGA seems to love the whole show. It’s all Tyler Sheridan level drama.

I think that’s why the foreign minister of Iran was in China. China invited them to get the pulse on how to best negotiate with Trump to get the max out of the meeting. Iran and China are in cahoots, having China help Iran with back channel deals in exchange of China brokering a deal to look like a good guy to foreign nations, maybe talking about the Petro-Yuan.

There you see the difference between a socialist statesman and a capitalist businessman. Xi's more than happy to play the long game, use scarcity as leverage to invest inwards, build independence. Trump needs big returns now, if it damages anything that's for the next guy to fix.
