I’ve been trying to track down a music video I saw years ago (likely around 2016–2018, on MuchMusic in Canada), and it’s been stuck in my head ever since.
Here’s everything I remember:
- The video is live-action and very cinematic, almost like a short film
- It features a humanoid robot wearing a suit and tie, with a CRT-style TV for a head (big screen, not a human face)
- The story involves a lonely older woman who gets this robot as a companion
- They spend time together doing normal things (walking, going to a store, etc.)
- There’s a scene where a place has a “no robots allowed” type sign
- Another scene: they’re walking at night and a group of guys confront them, and the robot defends her by blasting them with a red beam from its screen/head
- Overall tone is dark, moody, slightly dystopian
Music-wise:
- The track has little to no traditional lyrics
- It’s more electronic/experimental
- The beat is built from a repeated vocal phrase (it sounds like the title is being looped and turned into the rhythm)
It’s NOT:
- “Rocketship 2010” – Shiny Toy Guns
- “Are You Lost in the World Like Me” – Moby
- “Glow” – The M Machine
This felt somewhat indie/low-budget but still very polished visually
If anyone remembers this, you’ll save my sanity. During this time that I remember this song, songs like this is what we came for by Rihanna, Bounce by Iggy, Figures by Alyssa were playing around the same time.
bruh this is gonna bug me now too 💀 the whole CRT head robot defending an old lady thing is so specific and sounds familiar but i cant place it
the fact that it was on muchmusic around that time period is actually a good clue tho - they used to play some really obscure electronic stuff between the mainstream hits. that whole 2016-2018 era had so many weird experimental videos that just disappeared into the void
have you tried reaching out to muchmusic directly or checking their old playlists? sometimes they still have archives floating around. also maybe try posting this on r/tipofmytongue with more details about the vocal loop - someone might recognize the specific sound 🔥
the no robots allowed sign detail is chef's kiss worldbuilding btw, whoever made this vid knew what they were doing
