Movies coming from Disney include Assassin’s Creed and Independence Day, with pics from Lionsgate including American Hustle, Bridget Jones’s Diary, Django Unchained, The Expendables franchise, The Fighter, Good Will Hunting, The John Wick franchise and Reservoir Dogs, as well as the series The Tudors and Rogue.
Tubi is the closest approximation to going through the $5 bin at Wal-Mart. It’s an experience that is missing in this world today.

Remember FYE at your local mall? They used to have every movie and anything more than 10 years old was 5 bucks, now you go on Amazon and every movie to purchase is 14.99

Lmfao. My local Mall's still open FYE has a random assortment of pre-owned discs that c****, but any new copies are way over priced. A DVD at FYE is probably $20-$25. A Blu-ray is probably $30-$35. A 4k is probably $40+. They've always been super overpriced compared to their competitors.

I pay for Prime and it has an ubearable amount of ads for a paid service. I just picked up Crave for a month and it has an unbearable amount of ads for a paid service. Stayed at a hotel recently, watching cable.....it has an unbearable amount of ads for a paid service.
At least Tubi is free.
12
loves_grapefruitApr 2, 2026

My thoughts are the same about Prime. It was alright at first when they only front loaded the ads, but watching Fallout season 2 was horrible with 5 ad breaks throughout each episode. I’m not renewing my subscription. And you’re right, Tubi is free. It’s just not the way I want to watch movies, with ads.
2
WBRileyDesignApr 2, 2026

the second they started showing you ads for a paid service makes it "not alright". You pay for them to show you adverts...that they are being paid for.

That’s pretty much Amazon’s whole model. Of course you can pay even more to not have ads, but it’s kind of a “I’m altering the deal, pray I don’t alter it any further” situation.

Out of all the ‘free-with-ads’ movie platforms, Tubi’s ads are *by far* the least intrusive.
They have fewer ads than Pluto, Roku, YT, etc. & they aren’t just randomly inserted. They are placed at actual scene breaks with a little countdown.
10
bindersfull-ofwomenApr 2, 2026

Tubi's are def random. Maybe not on a bigger project, but on a indie one it's like:
Linda: What's going on why do you look so scared?
Keisha: There's someone strange in the...
BUG SPRAY AD FOR 30 SECONDS
SAME BUG SPRAY AD FOR 30 SECONDS
AGAIN THE BUG SPRAY AD FOR 30 SECONDS

I love how amazing Tubi is with its library, but every time I read about how great Tubi is, I get so nervous that things will get enshittified, especially as its popularity continues to climb. I know people will say that as long as it has ads, it will be free. But didn't Hulu start out as exclusively free with ads? And then they moved to Hulu Plus, and then eventually made it necessary to pay for Hulu... I believe you had to pay extra for no ads. And now you can't even get Hulu on its own, at least from what I can see on the website. You have to buy it in a bundle with other services, with a premium option for doing it without ads.
Like... look at how much things changed. While Netflix never was free with ads, they've still gone downhill and greedy, too. Flat rate, no ads. Then they took away free trials. Then prices continued to rise. Then they split into different tiers. Then they added ads. Then they started locking certain shows behind the no ads plan...
I feel like it's only a matter of time before Tubi suffers a similar fate, especially one similar to Hulu.
I'm just really worried. It's great while it's lasting, though.

Real answer. There's different rights to movies based on the business model. Ad based licenses are different from subscriptions. And likewise with rental/purchase licenses.
For example, Netflix can have a movie exclusively but Amazon Prime can still rent/sell the movie for purchase. For Ad based licenses it's similar.
Also, some movies people don't want to pay for it. So that's why they do ads. Like really old or obscure movies or B-quality films
