i just finished Crossbones and Black Sails, are there any other pirate tv shows out there? doesn't have to be traditional Caribbean type.
and just a note: in all of "Black Sails', there isn't a single black sail.

The obvious one I can think of is One Piece which is an anime, but does have a recent live action remake
Also Our Flag Means Death (comedy)

I finally got around to watching the live action and was surprised at how much I ended up liking it. I wanted more, so I tried to watch the anime... I couldn't stomach all the anime-ness of it unfortunately. I def recommend the live action even for people that don't like anime.

Its the episode count that gets me, there's like 1200 of them and I don't got that kind of patience.

I started watching them in October, I'm on episode 1055 right now.
Gotta say, it's a pretty f****** incredible show. I put it off for so long because I had the exact same thought as you about episode count but it honestly doesn't feel very long after all these months later.
Granted I haven't been watching every single day or anything but the storylines keep you hooked and going back to watch more.

Apparently if you push through the first 25 episodes it gets amazing.
They're remaking the anime to remove all the filler too so you might prefer that.

I'm pretty sure even the one piece fans hate the anime. So I guess it's manga or live action (or, I think they're working on a "one piece anime but good" too but I don't know much about that)

Oh is the live action..."normal"? I also hate animeness, but most live actions I see from Japan and Korea still employ the animeness bullshit

The other comments hit all the ones I can think of. One Piece really is worth it, and the live action is excellent stand alone or as an entry point.
If you’re into table top rpgs, check out Pirate Borg, hands down the coolest and best pirate rpg out there. Their discord is lively and they have a spreadsheet of pirate media

1955 TV series *The Adventures of Long John Silver*. Has Robert Newton in the title role - the man who gave the world the "pirate accent." 26 episodes. Loved that shit when I was a kid.
Edit: You can see him in 1950's Treasure Island on Disney Plus

Pirate ships having all black sails wouldn’t make any sense. Part of their whole ruse was to try to be able to mimic a commercial ship to potentially sneak up on a merchant vessel and take her by surprise. Why advertise you‘re pirates in advance? “Raise The Black” however, meant the statement flag, and also meant the cargo ship crew were about to have a bad day.

Not... pirates... per se. But If you just want to get a swagger under your legs and a nice tight mainsheet or three, have you seen all of Hornblower?

The Horatio Hornblower series is really good, and while the focus is a British Naval Officer during the Napoleonic wars, if i remember correctly there were some pirate encounters.

Black Sails kind of sets the bar annoyingly high for this, so everything else feels a bit different tonally.
Our Flag Means Death is worth trying if you’re okay with something lighter and more comedic. It’s almost the opposite vibe, but it still plays with pirate life and characters in a fun way.
If you’re open to non traditional stuff, The Terror (season 1) scratched a similar itch for me, even though it’s more Arctic exploration than pirates. It still has that isolated crew, tension, and slow descent into something darker.

Are smugglers and bounty hunters sufficiently pirate adjacent to count? Or "rag tag group of people on a ship evading the law/military"? Salvage hunting? In space?
The Mandalorian, Firefly, Farscape, Dark Matter (the 2015 series, not the current one), Killjoys. The Expanse has some piracy going on, and salvage hunters. Privateers too, I think.

There absolutely are, there’s even a scene where they introduce their new jolly roger flag. Several times as they approach an unsuspecting ship the captain yells something like “fly the black!” They wouldn’t be sailing around with it at all times and give themselves away to military ships, it was used strategically.

The most notable pirate shows have already been seen by you or mentioned here. So I'll say something pirate adjacent is Vikings. They sail around, pillage, and sail away. And between pillaging they have their own problems to deal with. The first few seasons are especially good.

Captain Butler - British sitcom about pirates.
Galavant - not about pirates but features them prominently.
People Just do Nothing - about guys who run a pirate radio station.
Also, a shout out to Pirates in an Adventure with Scientists! which is a great pirate movie
