I think she’s as much of a Supporting character as Strahovski was in The Handmaid’s Tale. She has many prominent storylines but there’s also a clear discrepancy between her screen time and importance to the story than that of the lead. Also Robbie gets one on ones with most of the cast for more than 30 seconds, she doesn’t

For me, that was genuinely incredible to watch. She had to wear a mask of calm strength for the victim because she needs it, but her pain and rage behind that is palpable.
LaNasa's performance has to be going a long way towards helping people understand and respect more what nurses go through.

This is something that a lot of the main cast do that is just incredible to watch. LaNasa just does it better, effortlessly sliding back and forth between wearing 1 of 3 or 4 different masks, everything else is fully compartmentalized.

That was an amazing part of her performance, and I also love her dynamic with the newbie she's directly in charge of overseeing (Emma). In general I can't see anyone winning against her for Supporting Actress Emmy or The Pitt Season 2 for Drama Series.
There hasn't been any serious contender to rival The Pitt this year. Pluribus is a bit divisive in its first season and lost to The Pitt in every award shows it was competing with (SAG, Golden Globes, DGA etc). Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will suffer due to being a spinoff. Industry has nowhere near the viewership the other shows have. Stranger Things final season was received luke warmly . Paradise doesn't seem to have much passion behind it. And I doubt Euphoria will somehow have a great season to beat The Pitt this year.
Last year there was serious competition between The Pitt, Andor and Severance. However this year is much different. There are only two months left now in the eligibility period for this years Emmys. I will be really surprised if something airs that can beat The Pitt this year.

I feel like LaNasa isn’t actually a Supporting Actress anymore. She feels more like the Female Lead counterpart to Wyle this season. God, that kid was so good: it's a rare child-actor that can move so easily from sweetly comedic to darkly dramatic in a single show.
I can think of adult actors who would have struggled with what was demanded of the kid in this show. The *range* that was needed from the scenes where him and Dunk are discussing the rude song about the girl with three fingers...to the scene where he approaches his brother with a knife and his father holds him back...he was brilliant.

He did very well in making Egg feel wholesome, yet adding some subtle Targaryen cockiness through some of the mannerisms that gives his identity away
I would also add Sam Spruell to consideration for Best Supporting Actor because I expected Maekar to be just a completely unlikeable Targaryen opposite of his brother, but I loved that while he still has a gruff attitude, he actually does have a softer and more reasonable side too.

Won't be smart honestly. Rhea Seehorn for Pluribus and Keri Russell for The Diplomat seem to be the frontrunners right now and also have a strong narrative for being overdue from their previous shows (Better Call Saul and The Americans). No he isn’t, he’s missing from the last two episodes of a 7 episode season, and there are at least one or two episodes in the ones he’s in that Ruffalo has the spotlight. If this was a 10 or 13 episode season and the circumstances were similar I might agree but missing a third of a short show and not being the focus character in many parts of the 2/3 you’re in is supporting
2
Upbeat_Tension_8077Mar 28, 2026

Imo he's the heart and soul of that show & has a huge part in driving the performance of Mark Ruffalo's character, so he probably should be competing in the lead race

I don't think so, at least not this year
Rhea Seehorn has won a ton of awards for Pluribus so far only losing the Actor's Award thus far. Other names likely to be nominated include movie heavy hitters like Kathy Bates, Michelle Phieffer, and Zendaya or TV royalty like Keri Russell
I think it'd be far from a lock to win and risk denying LaNasa her rightful recognition for amazing work this season

She's fantastic. I want to make my feelings about that clear right away. But...
I read an article in which she was interviewed, and she spoke at length about getting the Pittsburgh accent down as a crucial part of her role.
I'm from Pittsburgh. I've also lived in Philadelphia for several (10-ish) years.
Her accent is pure Philly. Pinching vowels instead of elongating. Hard to explain.
She's the glue of the show though, and she's knocking it outta the park every week. I hope to see more of her in other projects.

The scene with her and Robby outside is such a showstopper. I love this show but even with loving it I can see that people find it cliched or that everyone is too nice and kind (although Robby’s breakdown this season and snapping at everyone, particularly Mohan, has been super fun and refreshing) but man when they go big in this show they really knock it out of the park.
I found the start of the season pretty slow for Dana but in the past few weeks Katherine has been sensational. It’s obvious to say also but the stuff that Noah Wyle is doing every week is just insanity. He’s making some of the wildest acting choices and facial expressions every week and I’m just constantly in awe of the Most Ready To Die Man On Television.

Agreed, mostly. One downside to the "season in a day" format is if a character is having an off day for them that means they're having an off season for us. Like she spent the first half of the day/season stressing out and being weird over her deposition, and now she's spending the 2nd half of the day/season stressing out and being weird over her sister. So it's annoying we don't get more of the fun doctor we had last year, but in character it's only one day.

Catching up on missed The Pitt shows.. paused and googled this woman. Where has she been? What a phenomenal actress!

When is she going to settle in an accent. One on one it seems like she’s committed to Bronx.. in large groups she’s more standard normal but in small 2-3 person groups she can be Irish, little midwestern, throw in some Boston here and there.

I love the show and her character, I do think they’re overdoing it with her the last few episodes. Almost becoming a cartoon.

I think like all shows that find too much early success, everyone involved becomes a bit too self-aware so there's an energy shift where they start exaggerating their behavior a bit more and writers feed into what's a hit with fans instead of sticking to just what's most natural for the story, so again it feels aware of itself, which like social media we pick up on an air of feeling fake/performative.
I don't think it's this actress alone at all (though she was the major standout and got the biggest attention)--the whole show feels self-aware now and like all the characters are being treated like caricatures of themselves. Not to an extreme it's bad--it's still a good show with great performances--but it will always feel more theatrical when you can tell they're aware they have an audience.

I'm that way with Mel this season, damn near every episode she's been distracted and hardly doing any real work, just give her the f****** deposition day off (which is scheduled on a major holiday at that)... And the sister stuff while surely she has a right to be concerned about is also overwhelming her thoughts.
Robbie went off at Mohan who had the panic attack about their mother, etc but hasn't said a peep to Mel who has been constantly staring off into the distance a good bit of the day.

I agree. as someone who spends too much time on the Pitt sublistnook because I love the show, this the one TRULY unpopular opinion about the show that I have.
I respect everyone else’s opinion, I respect what she’s going for but it’s largely not working for me. The episode with the sexual assault victim being the exception. She does have a ton of Emmy bait material and will get nominated again for best supporting actress.

Woof came here for this. She was my favorite last season but it feels a little over the top now. I also feel like she’s a bit of an exposition/move-the-plot-along bot now.

My mom grew up a mile east of The University of Pittsburgh. It's a city of neighborhoods.
Here is when I knew "The Pitt" nailed it. Opening shot with the ambulance in the first episode. The ambulance is going over a bridge that spans the Allegheny River. The ambulance is headed towards North Shore. North of that is Central North Shore and Allegheny General Hospital. So hearing that it's the basis for the hospital in "The Pitt" made sense.

The Drill Instructor from "Full Metal Jacket"

A good friend of mine is a charge nurse and has worked in an ER for about 20 years. Dana reminds me of her so much it's scary. The competence, the way she tells people when and how to do things, the little ribbing and joking that she does with Robby, the fierce advocacy for her nurses. All of it just feels like a character based off of my friend.
1
natguy2016Mar 28, 2026

Great writing and great actors who deliver. I love that nurses are the ones who keep things flowing and are THAT knowledgeable. They are the conductors of the orchestra.
The r*** kit arc in that episode was sensitive and showed respect. LaNasa matched that perfectly.
The current episode? The wheels are barely on. Nurse Evans was assaulted in S1. Definite PTSD. Nurse Evans and that med? Skirting the rules. It keeps things moving. But those actions would cause big trouble if investigated. She also paid out of pocket for a patient's meds earlier in the season. Possibly hitting a patient? Get fired and lose your license is a good bet.
Seeing Evans and Robby where she shuts down is amazing stuff. Evans and Robby have always been open to each other, no matter what. Robby is in terminal burn out. He has to have faith in Evans to be that manager. Period.

She was good but the dialogue in the show this season has taken a huge hit. Her explaining to another doctor what the codes meant was just a little too dumbed down.

Every place has their own code system, so if you were new to the facility you would need that info.

atrdeMar 28, 2026

Hospital codes are mostly standard. Also every member of staff is trained on them and also carries a card with the code.
This isnt a conversation that would happen.

SnooApples5554Mar 28, 2026

'Code Hula Hoop' is not a real code. Any place with 'codes' likely has a few variables.
But you're right that sometimes exposition has to be fit into conversation, especially on a show in real-time. I'm saying that one in particular might have a legit explanation. It did take me out when they explained it like, a second and third time though.
13
thefirdbluMar 28, 2026

A lot of the conversations in this show wouldn't happen because they're all highly trained and educated professionals with knowledge of the field. But this is a television show, they're actors, and the writers have done their best to make it as believable and accessible as they can for an untrained, uneducated audience by establishing it as a teaching hospital.
6
atrdeMar 28, 2026

They have been doing a lot more of it this season than the first season.
Even the first episode the conversation about how insurance works like no Samira would be well aware after years in the system how this works.

totally, hahah. they should get margot robbie in a bathtub for exposition next season, the fourth wall is just an inconvenience at this point

All my hospital codes are different colors.
There is no 'Hula Hoop'.
But it's fair to assume that anyone on the floor has undergone basic orientation which would have covered their codes.
3
atrdeMar 28, 2026

If you dont know your codes in a hospital you would actually get in shit. Like if they call a code and you have to ask what it means you get reprimanded.
And if you forget you look at your badge.

I've been working in hospitals since 2005 and never heard Code Hula Hoop. The current place I'm at calls them Mr Strong 🤷♀️
2
Big_Obligation_743Mar 28, 2026

It would happen. I can’t count how many hospitals I have worked in, and we have different codes. Code blue is always code blue.
I have never been in a facility with a code hula hoop. I have never been in a facility that differentiates if the person is violent in general or towards staff. We do differentiate armed vs unarmed.

Don't agree personally. Feels very comparable to the first season so far. I don't mind the occasional obvious exposition so more people can actually understand some of what's going on in the show.

The first season I remember having to Google things after they talked to each other. The only time it was plain language was doctor to patient which makes sense if you want to add in some exposition. This season there have been so many instances of the staff explaining concepts to each other in plain language its a bit brutal lol.

Am I the only one that doesn’t like her in the show? Her personality is way overdone and turned to like a 12. I also feel it’s a little unrealistic to act like this in 2026, you’ll just get harassment complaints and eventually fired.

i don't know, her character came off as written so formulaically (to me)
the folksy, vocally fried with an urban accent, ever-suffering head nurse providing folksy wisdom to the young'uns. it bored me, although i know i'm in the minority there..
