Did you really think the CIA isn't in every country that borders the US ?
The CIA have a Mexico office dude, it's on Google.

Not in Canada. Is there a third bordering country? A secret one?

That is naive. Yes the CIA operates in Canada. Yes they dont have an office, but famously the US embassy in Ottawa occasionally hosts CIA agents.

I was about to say, what are we talking about here lol.
We may not have an office in every country, but the CIA is all over the planet.

have you ever thought to read the news?
they were not 'with the cartel'

I stand corrected, they were with the state police raiding meth labs, without the knowledge of the federal government for whatever weird reason

scytob1 day ago

yeah without the federal govt agreeing is concerning, it is likely they will get expelled and diplomatic status revoked - thats the normal thing when spies (who are always in country as diplomats) go outside of what diplomats are allowed to do

CIA funding comes not just from a massive waste in tax dollars, but also drug money and guns.

Selling drugs, blowing up the competition and funding right wing death squads. You know the normal cia stuff in central America.

Someone has to f*** with the cartels and the federales won't do it. So CIA was there training local law enforcement (Mexican president was mad when she found out because she wasnt informed so she couldn't tip off cartel)

Thats kind of her prerogative to do as the leader of a sovereign nation. Shes gotta walk a tightrope between maintaining sovereignty in America's back yard and with cartels. Id be very upset if I were in her shoes and didnt know what exactly every CIA agent was doing, what their names were, and where they were in my country.

theefle2 days ago

Is it a sovereign government if all the leadership is owned by cartels? Even at more local levels, if the outcome of an election is decided by which candidate is murdered by the cartel, it is not a valid free election and does not express the will of the people as intended by the constitution. Stepping in to reduce/prevent murder of anti cartel candidates for example is, in fact, a step towards restoration of integrity, not violation of it.

you could do this with the us, replacing the cartels with corps, does that change the equation?

The same CIA that smuggled drugs for the Contras and played a part in the formation of most of the cartels. Now they’re the good guys lol.

i wasnt even going to mention playing favorite with the cartels. thats another box

Yes if corporations were killing off liberal candidates in my local election, and an outside power tried to stop the killings because my own law enforcement was corrupt, that would be OK with me.
6
_ryuujin_2 days ago
they dont need to literally kill candidates to thumb the scales

If there was some hypothetical mechanism for a foreign nation to covertly reverse Citizens United, fine with that too

You dont share the sentiment even at the extreme levels seen in Mexico rn? The guy running for town mayor and his entire family get gunned down in the street and your enforcement turns a blind eye, youd still say maintaining status quo is better than letting someone else secretly help?

Probably either smuggling illegal drugs and guns, or helping Mexico track down illegal drugs and guns.

The CIA has a global presence for the most part. Intelligence collection means they often have agents embedded in these countries. The CIA has stations in many countries that are staffed by their employees for intelligence collection and operations.

Many types of illicit drug production involve boiling large vats of toxic materials. Which are then discarded into creeks after end product is extracted😢
