It’s a solid joke but goddamn can you imagine donating a quarter of a million dollars to any cause?

SarahArabic2 Mar 28, 2026 +1
what else would one quite possibly need?
1
stupidpeopleallergy Mar 28, 2026 +164
OR we could have a functional government that pays its goddamn workers instead of the off chance some rich person comes along and does something charitable that only is enough to get them through another day. I hate it here.

No-Stranger2936 Mar 28, 2026 +45
Yes, but right now, we can't make that happen until people nut up and vote in November and 2028. I get that you're mostly being rhetorical, but can we be happy someone's trying to do something about it in the meantime?

14thLizardQueen Mar 28, 2026 +16
Right it's NOT this guys responsibility but he did some that probably helped a lot of people get groceries or pay a bill. He didn't have to and he did. We can be grateful for that.
16
wilko_johnson_lives Mar 28, 2026 +4
Trump has made it quite clear that as long as he’s breathing he’s not leaving in 2028.
4
jumjimbo Mar 28, 2026 +7
Yeah we've all heard that repeatedly thanks. F*** that.
7
wilko_johnson_lives Mar 28, 2026 +2
Until he suffers actual consequences for his actions he will continue to do as he pleases.

That’s not how the Constitution works regardless of whether he believes he’s above it
5
no-name-here Mar 28, 2026
> made it quite clear that as long as he’s breathing, he’s not leaving in 2028 where did you hear that it’s clear he’s not leaving in 2028? from what I can find, about as many times Trump has said he won’t try going for a third election.
0
No-Stranger2936 Mar 28, 2026 +8
Lowkey, this is how Trump gets away with stuff. Rather than focusing on the things we know to be true and can challenge him on, we make up doomsday scenarios where everything is outside of our control and everyone is stagnant.
8
Kaiisim Mar 28, 2026
Not really. Stop being so easily impressed, that you don't spot what an awful precedent this is? You'd be telling is the Queen going past in her golden carriage and throwing pennies was super generous
0
No-Stranger2936 Mar 28, 2026 +1
Right, he should've done nothing. That aptly fits your worldview more, right?
1
theducks123 Mar 28, 2026 +2
Unfortunately, that's the government that got voted in and it's not just trump. We keep lowering taxes on the rich and privatizing government services.
2
Icy-Whale-2253 Mar 28, 2026 +1
But until then…
1
Snarky75 Mar 28, 2026 +22
I thought government workers couldn't accept gifts. Not that I am upset they did.
22
Thubs Mar 28, 2026 +13
Are they still employees if they don’t receive a paycheck? /s (but only slightly)
13
PictureFrame12 Mar 28, 2026 +10
That is correct. Nothing over $20.
10
neuroticoctopus Mar 28, 2026 +7
He could've given each person one $20 gift card dressed, and then wear a different disguise to do it again and again. How would anyone know?!
7
xxx_poonslayer69 Mar 28, 2026 +18
Oh wow that's a really nice thing of Tyler Perry to do out of the sincere kindness of his heart. Nearly made me forget all about his sexual assault allegations. Not quite, but almost
18
Hefty_Debt_638 Mar 28, 2026 +54
F****** Hunger Games out here. Celebrities tossing gift cards like it’s some magical, life-changing gift. GTFO.

Breadcrumbs and circuses…
15
HereOnCompanyTime Mar 28, 2026 +14
As someone who has worked with celebrities I know that every time their charity is "leaked" to a publication it's intentional and the amount of money or time they spend ends up in their favor from the positive PR. I'm always happy for the people who end up benefiting from that one time good deed but I think it's important to remember that Tyler Perry keeps his business in Atlanta because of taxbreaks and preferential treatment.
14
damianxyz Mar 28, 2026 +4
Its not celebrities fault, that common people chose corrupt b**** to run the government. Your point would be valid, if trump or one of his lackeys like rubio or vance visited the airport and gave the cards

This guy is anti-union. F*** him.

Well… that’s encompassed in your statement. Good luck out there!

pjohns24 Mar 28, 2026 +6
Everything Tyler Perry produces is shot under a union contract.
6
BeerForThought Mar 28, 2026 +5
>Perry, the billionaire owner of the 200,000 square foot production complex, fostered a long history of lack of compliance with labor unions. [Wrong much? ](https://atlpresscollective.com/2023/06/09/a-one-woman-show-writers-guild-picketing-in-atlanta/)
5
pjohns24 Mar 28, 2026 +2
The WGA action cited in the article is from 2008, almost 20 years ago. A lot has changed in the entertainment landscape in Atlanta in that period of time including the working conditions at TPS. Look, I’m not here to defend Tyler Perry but the fact is that his shows are produced under union contracts. I will say that my experience is on the production side he may have deeper issues and run afoul with the WGA. I would argue that this is less a union support issue and more an issue of needing control over every aspect of his product which is a different discussion.
2
Luci-Noir Mar 28, 2026 -2
Source?
-2
pjohns24 Mar 28, 2026 +6
Source: Myself. I’ve worked on a couple of his shows and have many friends who are doing so currently. All his shows are IATSE signatory.
6
Luci-Noir Mar 28, 2026 -1
You’ve worked on everything yourself?
-1
pjohns24 Mar 28, 2026 +6
Done with this. I’m not a fan of his and I totally believe the accusations of impropriety leveled against him but your anti union argument is incorrect.
6
ye_olde_green_eyes Mar 28, 2026 -16
TSA is in a union. What good has it done for them here?
-16
Chipder Mar 28, 2026 +34
Without the ability to strike. Unions don’t have much power.
34
BringBackTheDinos Mar 28, 2026 +27
Gotta love your anti-union shit when they're being strong armed by the government. Yeah, this isn't a union problem, it's a corrupt government issue.
27
OtherUserCharges Mar 28, 2026 +12
Plenty, they make good money. You know unions that provide vital services can’t strike right? If they could then firefighters would be millionaires. The reality is they aren’t getting paid cause there is no funding for them, which is exactly what would happen to anyone else if their business ran out of money to pay them.
12
Sorrymyapolgies614 Mar 28, 2026 -1
Ran out of money to pay them?? Could you please expound on that?
-1
OtherUserCharges Mar 28, 2026 +4
Their budget is set to $0. So no money.
4
Sorrymyapolgies614 Mar 28, 2026 -3
Source?
-3
OtherUserCharges Mar 28, 2026 +5
Are you serious? The entire conversation is about funding the department of homeland security. What do you think funding is and by extension lack of funding means?
5
Sorrymyapolgies614 Mar 28, 2026 -2
I just simply asked for a source💀if what you say is true that should be easy unless made up.
-2
OtherUserCharges Mar 28, 2026 +5
You have fingers so you can google this yourself, but fine here is the first link from me googling it. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/mar/27/us-senate-passes-funding-package-for-homeland-security-excludes-ice Notice the word funding right in the link.
5
Sorrymyapolgies614 Mar 28, 2026
So there is funding, politicians are just not pushing it through?

Why not just give them actual dollars that they can use? I can’t use $500 worth of Chipotle.

He tried to but they're not allowed to accept cash tips. Somehow this is allowed though. 🤷

I wonder if landlords/mortgage companies take gift cards?  Edit: typo
2
emb4rassingStuffacct Mar 28, 2026 +1
Many landlords allow debit card payments, so if they’re VISA cards, might help.
1
Sassypants269 Mar 28, 2026 +1
That's interesting, I didn't know that. When I previously had a mortgage, they wanted a checking account and routing number.
1
emb4rassingStuffacct Mar 28, 2026 +3
Oh yeah mortgage is different. I was talking about rent

Billionaires using the suffering of the common people for c**** PR. $250k is nothing to a billionaire. They wanna hoard all the resources and money, then look good for giving back crumbs.

Say what you want about Tyler Perry but he has the most insane RC plane habit on earth. Bought a whole guy!

I'm so confused! The sub seems to support Perry's actions....but he's a billionaire! I checked the ListnookThink playbook, and ListnookThink HATES billionaires! They are the enemy! They should be forced to redistribute their wealth! There are NO good billionaires! So what gives?!

Partial government shutdown. Funding has to be approved via congress, republicans have rejected the funding deal 8 times. Trump has said he won’t allow them to pass it unless the SAVE ACT passes.

Democrats keep rejecting it. Get it right. Chuck is the problem
