TiredOfDebatesApr 23, 2026

Apparently "high street" in the UK is the equivalent of "main street" in the USA.
The street is "high" because it's literally has an elevation higher than most places in the surrounding area. In the rainy UK (and prior to paved roads everywhere), the elevated streets would be less ruined by lots of traffic in wet conditions, and that's where shopkeepers wanted to set up.
Highways are called highways because in the long ago, they were also built to be higher than the surrounding land, keeping the way clear in rainy conditions.

Pretty much everything except heroin, meth and crack
7
plsQuestionOurselvesApr 24, 2026
+1
The world would be a better place if coca leaves and opium tea were legal. The problem would be the people who are already addicted to fentanyl/crack/meth who wouldn't really be affected by these less potent drugs anymore.
1
HYDROMORPHONE_ZONEApr 23, 2026
-3
Ironically in the US two are legal. Methamphetamine is Schedule II and Cocaine (crack might be excluded but it’s the same drug) is Schedule II as well. In the UK, Heroin is used in hospitals and the like and called diamorphine. It might be a POM (prescription only medicine), methamphetamine might be legal because I’m almost positive regular amphetamine would be POM there, and crack (cocaine) might be POM or even more restricted like Heroin (diamorphine, diacetylmorphine).
Everything should be legal and sold more or less like alcohol. You can add purchase limits and the like but it would be objectively safer if that was done because then the black market would eventually vanish along with adulterated drugs

This genuinely makes me upset. Especially since they have this young man's face right on the f****** front page. Ruining these people's lives and livelihoods. Truly scumbag behavior on the BBC's part when there are so much bigger issues.
Drugs aren't the problem. It's the lack of regulation for tax and treatment. Adults should have the right to put anything into their bodies, even poison, without government intervention.
This is bullshit.
-10

As if coke production in South America doesn't cause a huge amount of misery... keep your head in the sand.
8
Darnell2070Apr 23, 2026
+4
And governments should be responsible and regulate drugs and control quality for safety.
Unless you're harming others through your actions you should have complete control over your own body. You shouldn't want government telling you what you can and can't do to your own body.
Now maybe there can be limits within reason, but largely, every adult with functioning braincells should see that the war on drugs is a f****** failure and does more harm than good.
Why should these people from this investigation have their lives ruined over things that should already be legal in the first place. Then you don't have to worry as much about underground trade.
A person can already abuse alcohol and ruin their life. Are you against alcohol being legal?

If he's only selling to adults, who cares? He needs to start ID'ing people, pay tax on the revenue, and now you have a legitimate drug store!

The article says it's run by organized crime and surrounding businesses have been shaken down by gangs. So it's not really about adults getting high in their own homes, it's about the attendant lawlessness.
