Money is the only thing the billionaire/oligarchy class cares about. Congrats to the UK!!!

"care" is being a little too generous

They care if there’s not enough being born. Watch the headlines shift from “why are millennials not having enough kids?” to “why are gen z not having enough kids?” in a few years.

A few years? lol! [Fox News Analyst Says It's a 'Problem' That Teens Are Not Having Babies, Blames Young People for Declining Fertility Rate](https://people.com/fox-news-its-a-problem-that-teens-are-not-having-babies-11949524). That article is from People magazine… two days ago.

It's also Christian. Control of the womb is pure church. And babies as the best recruits - that's Christian too.

Abrahamic in general.

Ummm…Fox is already running with the ‘crisis’ of teens not having kids.

But they don't care enough not to stop waging war on the living standards on the working and middle classes. There ia a perfect correlation between the decline of the middle class and the rise of the billionaire class. I do not think that is an accident

Power. Power you are looking for. They need power to get wealth, status and all that. Taking away their global power is what's needed. These fucks, every single one of them including their families need to lose access to the world by preventing them from traveling. A billion lost they earn tomorrow (literally). That doesn't hurt that's just annoying like a mosquito flying around.

10
Green_Dream20 Apr 16, 2026 +2
They don't need to. They will threaten us with having to repay the money. Any peace agreement with Russia is going to cover what happens to that money. Trump will sign a document giving it back to his best mate Putin. This is what Belgium was afraid of about 6 months ago and no other EU country offered to back then up and guarantee the money should they give it to Ukraine.

I’d like to recommend that the next Russian asset we send to Ukraine is trump himself, but they don’t deserve that
57
Kona_KG Apr 16, 2026 +7
Considering how apathetic the US admin. is toward actual crises and how fast news expires over here, we'd probably threaten to reenact the battle of Trafalger for a week before moving on. In other words, please do. In all honestly, we might not even notice at this point
7
Kichigai Apr 17, 2026 +4
Depends. If we send Trump, alone, no phone, no entourage, no protective detail, just a lone man with a large print English/Ukrainian phrase book, and give him to Zelenskyy to choose what kind of experience he has, under constant threat of Russian bombardment, that would feel appropriate. Does Zelenskyy give him the perspective of his own experience, as a head of state abandoned by the United States and their security promises after 1991 (a near-peer experience)? Or does he turn Trump loose into the public teniments of Kyiv, and the struggle for warmth and survival amid Russian attacks in the most well defended area of Ukraine (an experience he has condemned average Ukrainians to)? That seems fair. And karmic.

Transfer it all.
693
Master_Positive_2772 Apr 16, 2026 +393
I think in a lot of cases the money is funds generated through interest on frozen Russian assets. It's assumed to be better that way because that puts off the legal question of appropriating assets rather than freezing them for another time, assuming it'll be after reparations are decided many years from now.
393
Cookie_Eater108 Apr 16, 2026 +363
It's also quite strategic. Ukraine is no beginner at this. Much of the funds that are sent their way will be directed right back to the nation that helped them through arms purchases- so it would not surprise me if the UK sees a 1 Billion dollar arms purchasing order coming in the near future. The people of the UK get a large manufacturing boost, Ukraine receives weapons- it costs nothing to the UK government itself. The only loser in this arrangement is Russia.
363
Kichigai Apr 17, 2026 +40
>Much of the funds that are sent their way will be directed right back to the nation that helped them through arms purchases Ukraine also isn't stupid or beholden to stupid people. Starmer I would hope isn't so petty as to punish Ukraine for buying arms from the most cost effective source. If they can get a better deal out of Sweden for the Gripen versus the EuroFighter, I don't think Starmer is going to be a vindictive SOB.
40
snuff3r Apr 17, 2026 +46
I don't think EU or The UK give a c*** where the money goes - I'd imagine they trust Ukraine wholeheartedly. Ukraine has a lot of good friends now. With the conflict being in the UKs backyard, all money they send is considered an investment in their own safety, and Ukraine has been very smart with the funds they have access to. Im on the other side of the world (Australia), but I really wish we had stronger strategic links to EU/UK than the US. Despite changing/transitioning slowly and carefully, we're definitely replacing strategic resource arrangements with the US with better arrangements with more trustworthy partners, locally and with EU.
46
bongohappypants Apr 16, 2026 +22
Does Ukraine really need Tactical Morgan 3 Wheelers?
22
StaysAwakeAllWeek Apr 16, 2026 +55
We are manufacturing and sending 120,000 drones to Ukraine this year. That's more than the US military is currently procuring total.
55
Master_Positive_2772 Apr 16, 2026 +66
We produce naval, recon, logistics, strike and fpv drones. All of which we provide to Ukraine. We've also given them all of the stuff which would now be redundant in a future war.
66
lemlurker Apr 17, 2026 +30
The UK has a pretty killer high tech defense industry... Unlike the us which throws money and numbers at the problem the UK has pulled some really excellent engineering from pretty tight finances

22
Lexinoz Apr 16, 2026 +18
You are correct, last I heard, it is primarily interest of frozen assets, not the actual assets, for the reasons you stated.
18
SmoothStrawberry7777 Apr 17, 2026 +8
1 billion in interest?!? So they must have tens or hundreds of billion in Russian assets frozen to generate that much interest?
8
bbbbbbbbbblah Apr 17, 2026 +11
the capital city is not derisively called "londongrad" for nothing. Lots of oligarchs have/had a presence here. The banks were only too willing to assist in helping park their assets outside of Russia.
11
noggin-scratcher Apr 17, 2026 +3
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Confiscation_of_Russian_central_bank_funds mentions a figure of £25 billion ($33.5 billion) frozen in the UK. Significantly more held in the EU though.
3
letruf Apr 17, 2026 +2
>Since Russia's full-scale [invasion](https://kyivindependent.com/tag/war/) in 2022, G7 countries have frozen approximately $300 billion in Russian sovereign assets. \- says the article we are commenting on.
2
Galaghan Apr 16, 2026 +2
Like what they do with the Euroclear money, indeed.
2
Fellowship_9 Apr 16, 2026 +31
In addition to what other people have said: transferring everything now means there is one less bargaining chip. At the moment the oligarchs will be looking at their frozen assets and trying to decide how to get them released. Once the assets are handed fo Ukraine, they have nothing to hope for, and less to gain by pushing for the war to end.
31
nolok Apr 17, 2026 +8
We're doing something very specific (I use the global we here, european countries doing that). We want to remain a safe place to invest, and not establish a precedent that if you do a war not directly against us but we disagree with, rule of law will still be followed. It's a big part of why europe is considered reliable and loyal. So we don't touch the frozen assets at date of seizure. Maybe they can be used in case of a peace agreement for reparations or whatever, or maybe as incentive for Russia to agree to terms, or whatever. But we use the interests generated, because the fund generated since seizure are considered differently by law. Might seem inefficient, slow, weak, whatever, the point is it's also one of our greatest strenght on the world stage : we can be trusted. The world need more of that, frankly.
8
anders_hansson Apr 17, 2026 +2
For reference, the article says: >The assistance is part of the Group of Seven's (G7) ERA initiative, a 50 billion dollar loan program that uses **profits from frozen Russian sovereign assets** to finance Ukraine and repay the loans. Using profits from the frozen assets is what the EU/Belgium has done for years. I also don't think that the $50B figure is random. The projected need for Ukraine (according to the EU, Ukraine and IMF) for 2026-2027 was ~€140B IIRC (under the assumption that the war ends in 2026). The loan that the EU ended up agreeing on was €90B, which means that it fell short by €50B, which is likely where the G7 efforts (including UK) come in. 90+50=140

grchelp2018 Apr 17, 2026 +13
Putin has been telling his oligarchs to take their money out of the west for a long time. Putin wants that money in russia so he can touch it. So Putin might be pissed that Ukraine is getting money for the war but he is happy that the oligarchs are paying the price for not listening to him.

the fact that only one country does this after years of war speeks volumes. We should have done that on a large scale as soon as the first sanctions didn't show any effect.

The thing that unites the UK politically is our disdain for Russia (specifically Putin and his cronies). They committed a nerve agent attack in our country that led to the death of a British citizen and nearly killed others. Also committed a radioactive attack that killed somebody too on British soil. Ukraine will always get our support.
