Market manipulation, and if possible, take in some bribes too.
623
AnalogFeelGood Apr 13, 2026 +129
The usual rambling doesn't work anymore, and he burned the nuke card, so now he'll just straight up close & open the strait to manipulate the market and pump millions out of it.
129
Magger Apr 13, 2026 +27
It’s a great tool for market manipulation. But I also think it’s just part of the general incompetence and their tendency to make plans on the spot instead of plan things out. Trump was convinced the military power of the USA could bring any nation to their knees. Frustrated, out of options, the only thing left to do is to just copy the strategy of the opponent.
27
Agarwel Apr 13, 2026 +1
"general incompetence" Nah... it is working perfectly as designed. People essentialy stopped talking about UA and Epstein case is also going nowhere. Plus it is hurting whole western worlds - exactly as Putin likes.
1
p_2923 Apr 13, 2026 +274
By blockading and charging a fee Trump can make a personal profit while Americans will pay more for fuel because of it. This is what American voters want....I guess?

Dragonfly_8 Apr 13, 2026 +112
Not just the US. Gas prices are through the roof in Netherlands. I'm so angry at the US for this clown show.
112
LillaKharn Apr 13, 2026 +58
I am IN the US and I believe everyone who has been within earshot of me is tired of hearing me b**** about this. But I’m not shutting up. And I’m not letting those that voted for this forget that they voted for this.
58
bobbypuk Apr 13, 2026 +20
Could you either rest of the world a favour and include those who didn’t vote at all?
20
shartmaister Apr 13, 2026 +7
This. Not voting is voting for whoever wins. Especially in a two party system.
7
Pale-Barnacle2407 Apr 13, 2026 +1
> that they voted for this. Excuse me, they didnt vote for this, they vote to brutalize brown people and protect pedophiles, the higher prices is a bonus
1

Australia, too.
8
Hi-technik Apr 13, 2026 +6
Believe me, the whole world is suffering from high gas prices and shortages because of this clown. This also affects the secondary products like fertiliser, plastic goods, and cause general increase in prices of many things.
6
Samaritan_978 Apr 13, 2026 +38
If only it was just Americans suffering from their own stupidity. The world is not that fair, sadly.

Here I thought it doesn’t matter to the US
34
LongBeakedSnipe Apr 13, 2026 +16
The bit that confuses me is, isn't a blockade of the straight an act of war against the Arab states? Before Iran was effectively blockading it and US was trying to stop the blockade. Now Trump says... you are not doing it effectively enough? I declare war on UAE, Qatar, Saudi and so on?
16
The_Grungeican Apr 13, 2026 +16
you can't play chess with a pigeon. it just knocks over pieces and shits on the board. we're currently in the 'shitting on the board' phase.

Have you ever seen one of those clueless, shit for brain loud mouth dickheads at the end of the bar, always shooting their mouth off about how dumb everyone else is and how if they were in charge they'd sort things out in a day? This is what happens if one of those morons is in charge.
48
the_blackfish Apr 13, 2026 +35
Well then Iran mentioned installing a toll, and then Trump offered to get halfsies on the toll but Iran said no, so now the orange one is claiming to use the US Navy to blockade the strait of Hormuz.
35
No_Indication9630 Apr 13, 2026 +18
Trump's decided if you can't beat em, join em! He thinks every country should be able to shake down any other country for anything they want, might is right. That's a bold strategy Cotton, let's see how this plays out.
18
quipu_ Apr 13, 2026 +8
Trump is increasingly displaying that he's anything but mighty - he's incredibly weak, and he's bringing the US down with him

Trump now wants buddies to join his grift and legitimize it. Join in, get paid. Don’t join in, and get shafted. Will make interesting narrative when the time comes to account for it all.
26
No_Indication9630 Apr 13, 2026 +31
No one with dignity is f****** joining him, why would you blocade yourself, ten bucks says any previously allied ship that goes out there is getting sunk by "accident". You know who's gonna join him? Probably North f****** Korea.
31
Initial_E Apr 13, 2026 +3
After a few years of suffering this guy, I think it’s going to look mighty tempting. Even worse is that a new wave of opportunists will try to seek political office using this as a foothold. So on the one scale you have morals and dignity, and on the other scale, the need to feed your loved ones.

Pump n dump. Funny that markets are playing along. Most of the transfer is being absorbed by pensions and 401ks, so not _that_ funny, I guess.
7
YourAverageExecutive Apr 13, 2026 +13
Actual tactical and strategic reason (not just people repeating talking points below on both sides?) - because Iran is allowing certain tankers through. The US is now saying, we’ll block you and those you let through if you don’t let all. Either we all can go or none. Not just some (especially those that are funding their military efforts). Yes it’s bad for the economy in the short term. Yes the US wanted it open. No, then blockading it isn’t some crazy leap. The goal is not to have c**** oil right now for the US. Their objective (again, remember there’s a lot more folks than just trump) is to cripple Iran so they are no longer a regional influence (aka military or economic threat in region). This is basically trying to “starve” them out metaphorically. Not saying good or bad or right or wrong (though Iran has been crueler to their people than the US in recent decades). Just sharing why certain tactics are being used.
13
Critical-Row7985 Apr 13, 2026 +18
The problem with that strategy is that Iran can last a hell of a lot longer than the rest of the world can from a starvation standpoint.
18
alus992 Apr 13, 2026 +11
Plus this strategy antagonizes China which can result in another war coming or more economical measures taken against the west. But I guess we are so wealthy that we can eat everything in the name of Trumps fantasies.
11
klartraume Apr 13, 2026 +2
Can they? Isn't Tehran literally running out of potable water? Even presuming the Iranian government doesn't care for the suffering of it's people... I don't think that solves. Not like Trump cares for the suffering of other Americans (or global citizens) either.
2
SYLOH Apr 13, 2026 +4
They were running out before the bombs started falling, I don't think anyone knows how bad it is, but it's probably a hell of a lot worse now. Not that anyone in charge cares.
4
AK_Panda Apr 13, 2026 +7
How many ships has Iran actually been letting through? Seems like single digits. No way that low a movement of oil is meaningfully sustaining Iran's economy. >Their objective (again, remember there’s a lot more folks than just trump) is to cripple Iran so they are no longer a regional influence (aka military or economic threat in region). This is basically trying to “starve” them out metaphorically. Seems unlikely to be achievable unless Iran is balkanised. It's too large geographically and demographically to not be a regional player.
7
sloggo Apr 13, 2026 +4
I think the idea is that now Iran doesn’t get to decide who gets through or not. Locks it up further 🤷‍♂️
4
morgazmo99 Apr 13, 2026 +2
Iran is getting a milly per ship that passes.. Trump wants in on that.
2
m1st3r_c Apr 13, 2026 +2
It's about the petrodollar - Iran was trying to shift to the Yuan by only allowing oil purchased with Yuan through the strait. Trump doesn't want the market moving away from the US dollar, as it's the thing keeping the currency stable/propped up - a constant demand for dollars to buy oil. Stopping any ships going through is better for them than the alternative.
2
DrunkMexican22493 Apr 13, 2026 +1
We do but apparently Iran is charging a fee for safe passage for the info on how to get past their minefield. Now trump is gonna block all passage until all oil can safely pass without being extorted for safe passage.
1
ColaPopz Apr 13, 2026 +5
Unless he gets paid the extorted fee, ofc, in which case he’s cool with it.

We should just blockade the entire strait instead and make sure Iran cannot export anything. If we starve the chinese, it will force Iran to kneel instead!"

for sure. Which is funny because people from the usa, on average,  already have shockingly bad geographical knowledge and now they're going to be further handicapped by having to learn the real names of places as well as the non-canonical bullshit ones trump made up.
2
Aggressive_Chair1470 Apr 13, 2026 +8
trump has some homophobic policies and stances,  but only because they're popular. He has no actual values or political opinion. he's a greedy narcissistic   he couldn't give a rats ass whether someone is gay or Mexican or whatever else.  if he thought it would get him huge support from his base and earn him money and give him a sense of victory over his enemies,  he'd announce tomorrow that he is Gay. Incredibly Gay. Probably no one in history has ever been more gay and no one knows more about what it is like to be a gay man. Certainly a lot gayer than Abraham Lincoln, thats what people are saying.

I don't care about trump. This is the USA. These are the actions of the USA. And if me calling that out makes anyone, as a US citizen uncomfortable, stand up and do something about the government that you permit to exist. About trump: Well.. Today was the first time in years (or rather in my memory) that I wanted to punch someone - and it's trump. He's not innocent - but we have to hold that whole nation to the standard he is setting..
55
sky_concept Apr 13, 2026 +33
Cant you see Americans are trying their hardest... Another Weekend "No KiNgS" stroll with sarcastic signs will surely end Trump this time. ("But we have to work!" Every other country having mass protests don't work?)
33
JConRed Apr 13, 2026 +24
Honestly, the no kings stuff is teaching them the basics.. Letting them connect, build bridges. It's laying the groundwork for actual protests. But it may end up being too late. Let's hope it isn't. The US citizens have been suppressed so hard, so long, under the constant guise of being told they are the free-est people on the planet, that there's no systems in place to stand in solidarity against a the government. They abhorred unions and allowed unions to be taken apart. A good union can organise a protest/strike. But they don't have many large ones. The one thing that bothers me, is that so many US Americans don't feel responsible for the actions of their country. That disconnect is what allowed it to get this far.

jajay119 Apr 12, 2026 +198
It’s quite ironic that Trump keeps comparing Starmer to Chamberlin as he had an ‘attitude of appeasement for Hitler’. Trump genuinely doesn’t seem to see he’s closer to being the modern day equivalent of Hitler than many others and Starmer is doing quite a fine job of not appeasing him.
198
briefmark Apr 13, 2026 +24
Or, Trump just thrives in being the modern day equivalent of Hitler and turning the US of A into the modern day equivalent of Third Reich. It's just the kind of guy he wants to be and just the kind of business he wants to run, isn't it?
24
darkcw23 Apr 13, 2026 +11
It’s also ironic given Trump is actively appeasing and seemingly working on behalf of Putin to further Russian geopolitical interests.
11
YoghurtFlan Apr 13, 2026 +1
Netanyahu probably closest to Hitler, he's going well into the expansionist phase. Trump is a Hitler aspirant desperately trying to prove his worth but is really just a useful idiot for his handlers. Putin doesn't need a comparison, he's just the latest in a long line for Russia.
1
AllRedLine Apr 12, 2026 +61
How Don thought these conversations would go, probably: "Why yes, Donald, we totally would love to essentially impose crippling sanctions on ourselves by blockading one of the single largest sources of oil on the planet. And no, you don't have to provide us with a tangible reason as to why we'd actually be doing it, in fact, it really doesn't matter if *you yourself* appear totally incapable of articulating even one single reason that stands up to any scrutiny. That sounds like a wonderful idea!!"

81
oilmand Apr 13, 2026 +24
He couldn’t stop Iran’s blockade. Now he’s trying to save face by saying he wants a blockade. Same with the fake ceasefire negotiation. It was to save face because Iran was not giving in to his deadline. It’s all about image control and reframing the narrative to the make the average American believe they’re “winning.”
24
nosayso Apr 12, 2026 +74
Duh. Why would they? Because a crazy pisspants dementia patient yelled at them? The US started it without the UK, why would they get involved? Have they even been asked to be involved in a real way beyond chastisement from a naked Emperor?
74
Savage_Whiskers Apr 13, 2026 +16
Even if the UK would send ships immediately to support the blockade, Trump would probably have changed his mind before they even get there, you know, TACO style.

The world was never with Trump to start with. All this is showing is the resolve of the worlds intention. He fucked up America's diplomatic standing in the first month of his administration by starting a massive trade war and threatening his allies. None of this is a surprise, just a confirmation.
1
KezzaJones Apr 13, 2026 +1
The world was never with the Trump administration. They just put up with him and entertained him while he stamped his feet. However, when he started imposing tariffs on his allies and threatening to invade Greenland this year, that’s what made the world refuse to entertain him anymore. He cannot be trusted. Why come to the aid of someone who imposed tariffs on you for no reason?

And I won't be surprised Trump unable to comprehend why US allies refuse to participate in a monumental blunder he started and expected help.

Arsonist next to the burning building asks buddy to hold the gas can while he goes for a smoke and will brb.

are they using a magic eight ball to make tactical decisions ? Actually its all about cutting off oil supply so that the amerikan mafia is the only oil supplier.

shlybluz Apr 13, 2026 +3
I keep waiting for the rest of the world to say " We've had enough of your shiat. Dear America, until you get rid of the current administration and get your shiat straighted out we are doing a total trade embargo on you. When you get things fixed we will talk, until then enjoy your economic collapse". Maybe when the stores are emptying out and the gas is nearly gone the arsehats that voted for this will come to their senses and the fools who haven't stopped him will do their damned job.

obidie Apr 13, 2026 +3
So what, is he just going to fire on and sink any ships that defy his blockade? That'll go over real well with the rest of the world.
3
MediocreDisplay7233 Apr 13, 2026 +3
I’d like to see NATO sink his ships

I'm shocked Starmer grew a spine and is standing up against Trump and Israel. Who knew pigs could actually fly. About time we just said f****** no to this nonsense. Next step Kier is to not let the US use our military bases and airfields to launch attacks from.

I'm not sure why Trump is closing the strait, when he keeps screaming at Iran for closing it... Glad we're staying well out of it though.

Join us in blocking your oil

I hope Iran blockades his blockade from both sides and leave them sitting there imprisoned.

If there's one thing I've learned with Trump, it's that no matter how stupid it is, he can always make it more stupid. So this isn't the end of it. It's going to get more stupid from here. He'll go lower still.
2
Prince_Nadir Apr 13, 2026 +2
It is just helping him sell his Venezuelan oil as well as anything else his bribers want him to sell.
2
Mister_Funktastic Apr 13, 2026 +2
People are complaining about fuel prices so much and no one is talking about the main problem! Fertilizer! So much fertilizer hasn't shipped through the Strait, hasn't been spread on fields and now world food production for the next year will drop by 20%!!! There will be famine in all companies that have a net import of Nitrogen and Urea. Food prices will rocket. Millions will die. Get Trump Out Now.

devl1red Apr 13, 2026 +2
Let’s be honest, we haven't got the kit to pull that off anyway. Still, nice to see we publicly mugging off this orange clown. So yeah, go on UK, show them how it’s done. We’re killing it.
2
S1nnah2 Apr 13, 2026 +2
I can't stand starmer. But reform or the Tories would have us front and center in this clusterfuck

Auran82 Apr 13, 2026 +2
Isn’t this just piracy?
2
Ell2509 Apr 13, 2026 +1
He now says that he is only blocking Iranian ships anyway. None from other countries ports.
1
MetalBeast89 Apr 13, 2026 +1
Any country with common sense doesn't want to deal with orange fuckwit.
1
Intelligent-Fan2410 Apr 13, 2026 +4
Imagine being the UK in this scenario. Having literally no incoming oil tanker to provide shipment and then being asked by who you thought was your ally, to help with blocking shipments that Iran was going to block anyways. Does this administration have any idea what’s going on?

Someone’s gonna get a tariff

virgil_of_the_brooks Apr 12, 2026 +4
Thank god, the whole world needs to treat the current admin like a cancer. Eradicate them from global relevance and starve em out on the global theatre, the fascist pigs in office deserve nothing less than the breaking wheel

tingkagol Apr 12, 2026 +2
The US have lost and is just making things worse by forcing Iran to give up the strait. Iran is literally sitting on the strait and the US will be spending billions just keeping those warships afloat on those waters. This is a war of attrition and it's not in the favor of the US.

Adventurous-Eye3884 Apr 12, 2026 +2
No surprises. Why would anyone want to help warmonger taco?
2
usuallysortadrunk Apr 12, 2026 +1
For real though, how batshit crazy would it be for the US to sink a civilian ship belonging to god knows who starting another chain of political dilemmas.

I can’t wait until King Charles gets to his meeting with Trump and Trump craps on him to his face. Why sign up for that?
1
Formula666 Apr 13, 2026 +1
I agree stay away from all this corruption if you'll know what is good. He already has his war criminal buddy on his side.

macross1984 Apr 13, 2026 +1
UK will earn brownie point for going against Trump and I am sure EU will notice.

Was it something that Trump said ? It usually is with him !

Shut up and tell us when to taco?
1
Jolly_Psychology_506 Apr 13, 2026 +1
The Iranians have leverage on the Strait so Trump wants some of that. They won’t pass the ball on the toll booth idea so now how about a joint blockade, oh great idea. WTF. Next up a he’ll propose building a new strait and damning this one up.
1
naitch44 Apr 13, 2026 +1
I’m sure Trump won’t have an emotional breakdown over this, expect a rant about non working aircraft carriers and being weak in 1,2,3…..

The Techno Union stands with Trump I bet

1

I keep saying - why would we effectively blockade ourselves?????
1
Karpattata Apr 13, 2026 +1
Well yeah. Even if it wanted to it just had to ask France for help dealing with Putin's shadow fleet.
1
CinicallyATurnip Apr 13, 2026 +1
He isn't going to do anything of the sort and anyone that takes this geriatric mobster seriously just needs to take a look at his history to realise his Taco nickname is entirely true.
