It’s effectively true though Ukraine is holding a ***tiny*** patch of Luhansk with no real strategic value other than disavowing Russia’s “total control” As someone who 100% supports Ukraine in this conflict; Unfortunately this claim is basically just propaganda from Ukraine

Russia bragged often enough about fully capturing places only for fights to continue for weeks or even months.

> Ukraine is holding a tiny patch of Luhansk So it's not true. Not that it matters strategically on the ground, but if Russia makes these claims it's because it matters politically to have russians think they're winning something. And they're not. Because they don't hold that patch, and it matters to say it for the same political reasons, to counter their propaganda. And to keep showing that after 4 years of wars and billions lost and thousands killed, Putin is bringing nothing for russian people except war, russians who don't seem to care that much but I guess it could be just their problem if it wasn't also the problem of countries they invade and threaten. They need to lie to convince russian people this war has results, and it shows how tired they are, but I guess everyone is tired of this war.

Ukraine is holding like 2km^2 out of 26,000. A few thousandths of a percent that is basically an empty field on the border I don’t think it’s pro-Russian to call a territory that is 99.99%+ occupied along with literally every settlement and piece of infrastructure ‘fully occupied’. It’s just being realistic Yes, Russia sucks. They started a pointless war that is going to leave their country in ruins for a generation, regardless of if they succeed in seizing territory. But that’s neither here nor there re: the reality on the ground

Shocking it took Russia this long to advance there. Two pockets of somewhat bigger size remained untaken ever since Russia previously claimed full control of Luhansk in \~June/July of 2022.

Hey, that sounds familiar in another large country with a small tiny hat country tagging along...

Russians are just dug in to the territory they've taken letting Ukraine tire themselves out against the defences. The only criticism Putin is getting is not finishing the war with a decisive offensive

LMFAO so you're telling me that this entire time Putin has been strong enough to wipe out the ukrainian armed forces and yet has chosen not to? Even after Ukraine was "tired out" after their 2023 offensive which actually went nowhere? Sounds like Putin hates Russians more than the West does!

Like the VDV? Oh wait, they got wiped out several times over already. Uh oh!

Correct, they have the power to do so, but it would be a costly endeavour. Even in the Battle of Berlin when Germant was on its knees the Russians took heavy casualties. The Russians don't want to give up defenders advantage.

Russians took heavy casualties while defending Russia? With "defenders advantage"? Sounds to me like it doesn't matter what they do, they suck ass at fighting, period.

Battle of Berlin was when Russia was on the offensive you illiterate stooge

My point still stands. Russians die at 10X the normal amount of any civilized society fighting a war. Their lives are basically rats.

So why can't Ukraine take any of their own territory back? Every counteroffensive seems to collapse.

Even-Baseball-5927 Apr 1, 2026 +6
They literally have kicked them out? The entire west side was pushed back into Belarus and the Karhkiv offensive retook a ton on the eastern front. Russia has lost 1.2-1.3 million people fighting this war... only to advance slower than WW1. Best army in the world huh? Ukraine has been fighting this war with sticks and duct tape and yet they are still holding their own against the Russians LOL. Similar situation, the US is fighting Iran and is sending vulnerable air assets right over Tehran, basically harassment free.

Those damn Russians have killed off over 80% of Ukraine's military. Attrition is their plan, and it seems to be working! I don't know why the European nations cannot send a single soldier in to help Ukraine.

> but it would be a costly endeavour. ...you're really running with the line that Russia making entire tank families from their stockpile extinct is the "low cost option"?

Et dans une semaine ils vont dire : Finalement, si, la Russie a capturé entièrement l'oblast de Louhansk. Mais, c'est parce que vous nous ne nous donner pas assez de milliards d'euros...

mrp61 Apr 2, 2026 -2
Hasn't Russia captured 98/99% of the oblast anyway
