Right. The title of this article is backwards. Ukraine is still invaded and trying to stay alive. Their priorities are stopping Russia from attacking, not letting the rest of the world have c**** oil from their invaders.

Exactly. Trump raising fuel prices are the reason why these attacks are a priority for Ukraine now: They increase Russians war funding. The plea should go to the US to lower fuel prices (i.e. stop their stupid attack on Iran) in order to reduce the urgency to hit Russian oil industry right now. Btw: While I'm highly concerned about consequences on the global economy, there might actually be a silver lining (and I'm not even kidding): Governments all over the globe would *never* have imposed meaningful restrictions on oil-consumption, businesses would *never* prioritize the move to renewables, because there are too many influential oil businesses and the quarter-by-quarter thinking rewards those sticking to oil until it's really used up. So, if we take global warming serious as an existential threat to humanity, as damning as the current oil crisis is for the global economy, it still has a positive effect as catalyst for the transition away from oil. Also, it will push governments to reduce their dependency on oil exporting countries, in the long run potentially reducing Russias and Saudi Arabias leverage.

Yeah, Ukrainian civilians in bigger towns and cities just survived *another* winter full of blackouts with the temperature in their flats often being the same as the outside temperature. But they should leave Russian energy infrastructure alone so Russian civilians can stay warm *and* the state can keep making tons of money from exporting the rest of the gas and oil? Riight

I'm a truck driver and I own my own truck. I just started out on my own in February after decades of driving for others. These fuel prices are eating into my profit to the point that some days I make less than I would have if I had just stayed driving for someone else. If fuel prices keep getting higher, I'll have to come up with a whole different plan, or go back to driving for someone else until they drop again. All that being said, I agree completely with you. I mean, wholeheartedly agree with you.

Especially as countries turn to Russia for oil etc now too, which would help them get money at prime conditions now to continue the war. Asking Ukraine to stop attacking refineries is exactly the opposite of what they should do.

That is not energy infrastructure. There is a difference, energy infrastructure is what generates and delivers electricity, and in case of Europe, that means also district heating. Refineries are part of oil production, there is a big difference between hitting a power plant and a refinery. If Russia wants the attacks against its oil industry to stop, they can always negotiate, even without ending the war: stop exporting. Ukraine will absolutely agree to that. If their fossil fuel production pipelines from extraction to refinement is shattered so bad that they struggle to produce enough to keep homes warm in the Russia Proper.. Now, that would change absolutely everything but is not plausible: Russia Proper will just rob resources from their colonies, also called "republics". But Ukraine can get them to a point where export is seriously hampered for very long time. Russia simply does not have air defense to spread to every single piece of the long chain where every single part is un-armored, not designed for even tiny explosions to happen anywhere near... So, there is no answer to these hits, they are easy targets for Ukraine, in terms of defense. And they are getting better and better at range, although... Finland had two errant Ukrainian drones hit the ground. Not a real problem, we Finns totally get it, there is a local saying about how you can't do plastering job without messing up the place a bit... BTW, i would predict that if the war is still on one year from now, Ukraine has already hit Russian oil infrastructure with AI controlled hivemind drones. They are unjammable and even more accurate, down to any accuracy you want, identifying and taking out single key components.

Russia is a net exporter and profiting greatly from what’s happening in the Middle East. Good on Ukraine for changing that.

Might be good because Russia can refine less oil at home. They might be forced to export the excess oil.

I mean as soon as the world wants to put boots on the ground for ukraine they can ask them to stop hitting their oil... until then they can hit what ever they want.

Ukraine has been thinking of everyone's comfort for 4 years, and some are still ungrateful. 

They still would have had to resort to this but as you said. if they had the proper help they could have done this years ago and not had their war dragged out.

Yeah, it’s not like we Ukrainians use some other fuel than the rest of the world, we’ve noticed the prices have gone higher. They kept more or less at the same level despite our strikes on russia’s oil infrastructure until Trump has started his tantrum in Iran though. Just a coincidence probably.

things the white house could do to lower the price of oil tomorrow: 1) stop bombing iran and negotiate to open the straight 2) sell their own oil cheaper, just because the auction price is high doesnt mean everyone has to sell at the highest price point. they can still sell at a huge profit, but below the OPEC price, if they want to. 3) start releasing their reserves

And even half-year effect would rather allow Russia to patch budget holes, but wouldn't solve more structural economical problems.
