What makes this significant isn't just the interception itself. It's that the launch platform was an unmanned surface vessel. No crew, no fixed position, deployable anywhere on the water.
Traditional air defense is tied to land. This moves the interception zone forward, over open water, before threats even reach the coast. That's a meaningful shift in how naval drone warfare works.

It allows two lines of defense, and the first line isn't expensive (drone), the 2nd has to be far more accurate as it's probably almost on top of a city by that point.

Exactly. The c**** first layer absorbs or intercepts before the threat gets close enough to matter. By the timethe expensive systems need to engage, the geometry is already better. Cost asymmetry works in the defenders favor for once.

This reminds me of that CCTV video of some dude getting flattened by a falling rocket after being taken down or something.

American resistance to the new technology is absurd.
I think that they’re going full sunk cost fallacy, seeing as how much they have invested into their naval fleets.
I know that they have their own offensive drones, but they stress size not numbers and they’re overly costly. They just lost a $250M drone recently.
That’s crazy.
Their military industrial complex just isn’t geared to low cost defense.

The Pentagon has just recently asked for $54b to make these sort of low cost drones. The program has the stupidest name ever in dawg but it exists and is likely to be used for this sort of stuff.

No exactly correct. They are using Chinese parts, but not the Chinese drones as a ready-made product. Every country can produce drones, the trick is tactics and reasonsing for each design to be produced. And designs tend to be updated every 3 months or so.

Cool but what was the accuracy? If it's 1% it means nothing. Tbh if it's 50% it means little.
