I said this before and I will say it again, I think the reason the Trump administration refused drone help from Ukraine is they are waiting for an American contractor to rip off the designs and sell a marked up made in America version. Until then troops and equipment are expendable

bitchcoin5000 Apr 1, 2026 +3
Came here to say the same thing. I think the story came out over the weekend where Zelensky was aware of Ukrainians starting companies in other countries, taking Ukrainian drone technology without working with the Ukrainian government.
3
JiveTurkeyJunction Mar 31, 2026 +32
Most likely. I think Dipshit Jr. Recently invested a bunch of money into some drone company.
32
HHSquad Mar 31, 2026 +7
Which company? If it hasn't jumped yet, might be good time to invest in it.
7
FIContractor Mar 31, 2026 +9
You mean an American company like the drone company with a pentagon contract that’s partially owned by some of Trump’s kids?

I'm pretty sure the reason he refused help was to waste as many high end intereptors as possible. Now there is a worldwide shortage, and they aren't going to Ukraine. That helps Russia significantly

Ukraine will teach the US how to do $100 drones not $10,000 drones. I think thats a fair deal, someone tell Trump quick that this is the best deal of the century.

Geopolitics is messy. Isn't it
414
JP76 Mar 31, 2026 +295
It can be. But considering the fact that Iran has supplied Russia during their war against Ukraine, Ukraine taking this stance isn't really surprising.
295
Belegor87 Mar 31, 2026 +175
It's not just that. Even if Iran had nothing to do with Russia, Ukraine position would be the same. This crisis drove oil prices up and US lowered sanctions on Russian oil. Russia is making a lot more money now, which they'll use to finance the war on Ukraine.

Atp which European/American nation isn’t an ally of Israel?
1
Foghkouteconvnhxbkgv Apr 1, 2026 +1
They blew up the route out of the Black Sea at the start of this. They've been waiting for a time such as now to give the political no u to Russia. They would've done it way earlier if it wasn't from messy politics and expecting to get patriot missiles (which are now all used up in Iran)
1
MadMarx__ Mar 31, 2026 +9
Ukraine also is an ally of Israel and was part of the coalition that invaded Iraq. It’s nothing new.
9
nycaquagal2020 Apr 1, 2026 +1
How is Ukraine an ally of Israel when it's against Israel's campaign in Gaza? Pretty sure Israel never sent weapons to Ukraine etc.
1
johnsolomon Mar 31, 2026 +32
Not in this case, Russia and Iran were already on the same side so Ukraine has nothing to lose. Iran has been supplying Russia with Shahed drones to use against Ukraine
32
Ultra_Metal Mar 31, 2026 +9
It's simpler than that. Zelensky is a great leader while the rest of Europe is run by a bunch of Neville Chamberlains who like to appease tyrants and terrorists.

He's contributing to world peace more than anyone else. He and the Ukraininans had been shielding Europe from a lot of suffering, and now he's contributing to stabilizing things in the middle east by providing defensive measures and expertise against Iran attacking every western-aligned nation around them. He definitely deserves an award for that. Edit: please remind me who makes the Shahed drones that land on Ukrainian cities and [maternity hospitals.](https://www.reuters.com/world/russian-drones-kill-four-ukraine-damage-key-infrastructure-maternity-hospital-2026-03-28/)

He’s appeasing the world stage, not Trump. Watch new leaders form as the world disassociates from America, Trump caused this mess, why the f*** would anyone waste their time with waiting for him to fix it. SoulBonfire Mar 31, 2026 +90
Oh dear. US doesn’t _actually_ want the Straits of Hormuz open - it needs to stay closed for the Yanks to have a stranglehold on OPEC. Also, ragging on his (former?) NATO allies is something he needs to help leave NATO - henceforth to be known as Article 47.
90
AusToddles Mar 31, 2026 +38
They also don't want it open because it will pressure more countries to find alternative oil suppliers. Oh dear, did Trump just help Russia again? Say it ain't so!

6
theddj Mar 31, 2026 +1
What’s the point of controlling these countries if you can’t extract the resources from them? with Iran in control of the straits, they are the ones who will exercise control over the gulf states. These countries will simply cease to exist if the straits are closed indefinitely.
1
jphamlore Mar 31, 2026 +18
Like I wrote in another thread, Oman owns a lot of the territory on the other side of the Strait of Hormuz opposite Iran, including the tip at the narrowest point, and they have and probably will always stay neutral. There won't be that equivalent component of Ukraine's defense system.
18
Ultra_Metal Mar 31, 2026 +15
Oman is no longer neutral after the Islamic Republic attacked them several times.

They can do both Zelensky is effectively out-military complexing the USA. A lot of capital in the stock market is from these Arab countries, and an infusion of cash in Ukraine would be really valuable
71
eXrevolution Mar 31, 2026 +52
He also mentioned that the weapon production capability is limited because of money flow, not the technical limitations

Arab states: Take this blank cheque book and cash it. *****Trump fuming in the background*****
1
jimicus Mar 31, 2026 +18
Ah. So - don't get Trump to buy Ukranian anti-drone tech. Get the Arabs to. If that's the plan - I'm no geopolitics whizz, but that is absolutely brilliant. Brings a healthy flow of cash into the country, firmly puts Ukraine on the world stage as the market leader in anti-drone tech and wastes Russian resources by proxy.
18
Mormacil Mar 31, 2026 +8
It is, this entire deal has been without the US. Ukraine has send experts to the region and he visited it personally to secure defense deals with the Gulf states who all hate Iran (and Russia).
8
jimicus Mar 31, 2026 +4
I don't imagine Ukraine is terribly keen on Iran right now either.
4
UnoriginalStanger Mar 31, 2026 +1
Gulf states were previously staying on more neutral terms with Russia but that relationship does seem to be deteriorating hence the deals.

10
Tigerpower77 Mar 31, 2026 +6
I think he knows how to handle this better than any of us
6
Dhghomon Mar 31, 2026 +6
There's always a cost analysis above which it becomes worth it. e.g. let's say each soldier is worth 5000 of some currency unit per month and needs 1000 units of currency of equipment (drones) and a Gulf country would like a team of Ukrainian soldiers and drones that ends up at 15000 and 3000 each (three times the other numbers) then the first 5000 and 1000 brings them back to even, the next pays for a replacement extra soldier and equipment, and the final gets them an additional soldier and equipment more than they would have had otherwise. They end up with twice the number of that unit of soldiers and equipment on the battlefield with an extra one in the Gulf carrying out the country's interests as well.
6
Heroyem Mar 31, 2026 +4
Ukraine IS keeping their weapons. They are sending specialists to the strait, not weapons.
4
LongDongFrazier Mar 31, 2026 +1
They are offering drones, trainers, software. The sea drones only have so much use now, the anti drone drones are mass produced, trainers they have plenty, software is just software. They are putting their military needs at any risk while either getting equipment they are short on or more importantly financing they desperately need.
1
UnoriginalStanger Mar 31, 2026 +1
I think Ukraine understands the situation better than you do.
1

6
SlowEntrance5503 Mar 31, 2026 +6
They got troops to spare for this?
6
mindfieldsuk Mar 31, 2026 +16
They don’t. It’s a compromise. The M.E countries are firing high performance interceptor missiles at any threat, be it ballistic missiles or slow shahed drones. Ukraine is getting good at defeating drones with cheaper options and saving the high performance missiles for higher level threats. They have to do this because there’s a shortage of them and resupply is sparse. If the M.E is using them in large numbers as well it means even less chance of resupply for Ukraine. Ukraine is sending some troops who know how to deal with lower level threats level drone threats to teach the ME countries so that they hopefully get more high performance missiles to defend against Russia’s ballistic/hypersonic weapons.

Dayumn man. Zelensky is out here performing miracles for his people, his country, and the entire world for that matter. At the end of all this I hope history remembers Zelensky as a pinnacle of courage and leadership, in contrast to every other world leader in this day and age. Ukraine gave up nukes and was backstabbed in return for it, and now we might owe them a great debt for shit we got into ourselves needlessly.

Zelensky is one of the greatest leaders in the world today and Ukraine is a great ally. The rest of Europe is shamefully supporting the Islamic Republic and its war crimes, terrorist attacks, and mass murder. European leaders should be acting more like Zelensky, but they choose to act more like Neville Chamberlain and appease tyrants and terrorists.

Oilleak1011 Mar 31, 2026 +1
Can any of you self proclaimed armchair generals give me the run down on how this helps Ukraines cause? What are the different angles here? At first I saw the conflict as an advantage for ukraine. And then about a week later it turned into a disadvantage in my opinion. Now I am genuinely unsure. Is this going to help them or is it going to hurt them?
1
JicamaMedical6970 Mar 31, 2026 +17

Money helps them. Usa pulling weapons from Ukraine to fight there own wars hurts them
18
mindfieldsuk Mar 31, 2026 +8
It’s a mitigating a loss. As an example: Patriot missiles are being used by Ukraine and the ME countries to defend their countries. They are being produced in small numbers. Ukraine has gotten good at only firing Patriots at ballistic/hypersonic Russian weapons and using cheaper domestic stuff on Shahed drones. Sparing some troops to teach the ME how to do this hopefully means more Patriots for Ukraine which are desperately needed.

Ukraine needs fuel. The other states need drones and drone defences. Each can provide the other with what they need. Win:win. Strategically, Ukraine is providing the USA's allies with what they need, when they need it, demonstrating themselves to be loyal allies of the USA. Meanwhile Russia, which keeps trying to seduce Trump to see the Ukraine war its way, is providing Iran with drone parts and targeting intelligence on US forces and their allies' assets in the region. If Zelensky doesn't demonstrate loyalty to Trump, Trump may, despite Russia's support to Iran, take Russia's side in the Ukraine war in order to keep oil prices under control while he prosecutes the war on Iran, which would be the worst possible outcome for Zelensky and his European allies.

Iranian drones have been killing Ukrainians for a long time. Hurting Iranian regime back for helping Russia is good.

Many deals can be made, such as money but also stuffs like "we'll help you with drones and you'll help us with missiles". Also the total amount of missile interceptors are limited and thus reducing demand in the middle east lets more go to Ukraine. The big thing here is that Ukraine relies on US (also other NATO countries) intelligence to conduct their drone strikes on Russia which have been targeting oil/export infrastructure but said intelligence may be pulled if oil price pressures rise too highly and there are some reports that they've been pressured to step it down a bit. Iirc they recently hit some ports causing a temporary 40% decrease in exports but don't quote me. Before the war they had been focusing more on ships as that was one of the bottlenecks Russia had but now that the strait is closed suddenly there are a bunch of ships available so they switched to a new bottleneck.

While this is truly a good idea, it doesn’t allow our pedo to appease daddy Israel so no thanks.

I'm so conflicted about this. I get Ukraine needs money and weapons and support from the West. I feel like they have little choice if they want to eventually repel russia. But at the same time the US and those genociders have been attacking iran and iran are only defending themselves which i support.

Countless Ukrainian civilians have been killed by drones directly supplied from Iran btw.

The best part of all this, is that Zelensky will actually do what he says he'll do. USA - may I present to you your next President.

Can they just be allowed to focus their efforts on defending themselves from Russia? Wtf.

They are directly affected, if strait is closed, Oil goes up, Russia makes more money, more difficult for Ukraine to fight a funded Russia.

UKR should not press that too much. If the strait is mined with acoustic mines, I do not think SeaBabies will have much effect.

Don't. Don't. Don't. Oh god no, don't let the US bully you now. They will renege again. I'm so sorry that Europe can't/or isn't giving you more right now.
