We all knew the toadmeister Orban was sucking Putin's toes. The guy is pure trash Between him and Mitch McConnell I dunno what looks more like a prolapsed rectum. If those two clowns made a baby together it would be the most hideous things you'd ever lay eyes on.

No_Poet_1279 Apr 1, 2026 +25
Orban is a walking hernia. McConnell is a hemorrhoid

Orban needs to go, and his wonky actions are not going to help him stay in the upcoming elections!

Ardalev Apr 1, 2026 +146
Genuine question, what measures are there to prevent him from simply stealing the elections? Because someone like him is absolutely expected to try and cheat.

zoley88 Apr 1, 2026 +94
Opposition’s support is way ahead of Fidesz’s and they will send representatives and counters to every ballots. They WILL cheat but they can lower the impact. Transporting people with buses, voting by threats and bribing, and photographing the vote to prove it, chain voting, you name it.

SpatulaWholesale Apr 1, 2026 +21
Orban definitely needs to go. Is the opposition candidate pro-NATO/EU/Ukraine? (honestly curious, I have no idea)
21
zoley88 Apr 1, 2026 +31
Pro eu and nato and somewhat neutral to Ukraine. I think they are mainly cautious, since Fidesz built its campaign agaist Ukraine for many years and the people became anti Ukraine too even the non-fidesz voters

SpatulaWholesale Apr 1, 2026 +7
Thanks for the info.

GameKapocs Apr 1, 2026 +40
He is 100% going to cheat. Was cheating before, will cheat again. It is only a matter of how much and how obviously. They simply can not win this time, and if they do the cheating will be too apparent to hide.

Is that how democracy work?

CurrentElectrical736 Apr 1, 2026 +24
With Trump and Putin behind him, he'll scam that election for sure.

Electorate areas in Hungary are gerimandered, so Tisza will have to get a large majority of like 3% or more to win. Tidza will probably do it but it is quite possible that Fidesz will win

tophernator Apr 1, 2026 +12
I think you’re understating the issue. 2010: Orbán got 54% of votes and 263/386 (68%) of seats 2014: 44% votes, 133/199 (67%) of seats 2018: 48% votes, 133/199 (67%) of seats 2022: 53% votes, 135/199 (68%) of seats If Orban has maintained a two thirds majority while getting as little as 44% of the vote, doesn’t Tisza need to get a complete landslide to finally remove him from power?

LittleHavera Apr 1, 2026 +4
I don't know the Hungarian election system, so I recommend you defer to someone who does. But it seems there's an element of first past the post. In a two-party system like the US (which has first past the post), such a swing is unlikely. But in the UK, swings like you describe can happen because there are more than two parties competing for each constituency, and they use first past the post. That can cause large swings in seats from a relatively small swing in vote share.

tophernator Apr 1, 2026 +3
Yeah, I’m British too and realised that first past the post was likely the issue 30 seconds after posting. Still though, impressive that Orban’s party has maintained just over the two thirds supermajority with substantially different levels of popular support. He definitely won’t go easily.

They won't be able to cheat the vote counting as it is overseen by all parties involved, but they will try everything to manipulate/coerce their voters before that. A recent public opinion poll, 2 weeks before election, from the most reputable independent researcher (21 Research Center) places Tisza at 56% and fidesz at 37% between the certain voters, which is very promising. Fidesz set up the election system to heavily favor the party in the lead which worked extremely well for them in the past as they were able to gain 2/3 supermajority even with a small lead, but now they are really behind. Fidesz pretty much has a scandal daily as they are scrambling to try to fix things, their politicians are agitated and have public outbursts. The oligarch are evacuating their assets by train to Dubai. They are even organizing their electon result party at the airport, lol. Also, Orbán looks worse every day than the day before and very obese. We have a saying 'there is hope for concerne', but hopefully he will live long enough to rot in prison one day.

Motor_Professor_917 Apr 1, 2026 +3
How can they have 2/3 of seats if they got less than 50% votes?
3
Kraand Apr 1, 2026 +4
They should analyse last elections in Poland and understand all the flaws discovered there. Like "mistakenly" reversing the number of votes during the night when entering it to the on line form...

YF422 Apr 1, 2026 +1
11 Days to go, plenty are probably apprehensive of shenanigans between now and then but seeing Orban reefed from power will be a major bonus should we see it happen. If Magyar gets his supermajority however.... oh boy the shaudenfreude is so gonna be good!

Ukraine calls the Orban government a disgrace, not the country, big difference.

Monicreque Apr 1, 2026 +37
It should be "The Hungarian regime", the same way we name the Iran regime.

They’re a rogue government — basically a russian parasite within the European Union.

Even the Vucic government is better than orban's in helping ukraine but not by much.

>Szijjártó did not deny that the calls with Lavrov had taken place. Instead, he said his conversations had been intercepted. “It is a huge scandal … that foreign secret services were continuously wiretapping my phone calls and that these foreign secret services have now made these phone calls public one-and-a-half weeks before the Hungarian parliamentary election,” Wow. Just wow.

"Yes, I was secretly leaking confidental EU information to Russia, but YOU'RE the ones to blame for listening in on those conversations"

Let's just be honest, it's not a hungary, its basically russia, same with the belarus. Both countries are runed by putin.

It’s no accident that one of Viktor Orbán’s biggest fans on the world stage is JD Vance. It’s also no accident that the Trump Administration’s bumbling incompetence benefits the Kremlin nearly 100% of the time.

If Orban stays, me thinks it’s high time Hungary exits the EU with haste!!

We need to kick out Hungary to set a precedent. No more spying, sabotaging and disobeying basic EU laws. No more authoritarian failed democracies in the EU.

Orban has a secret stash account maintained by Gazprom lobbyist. it's not under his name, but he holds the PIN number
4
Malhazz Apr 1, 2026 +5
But do you know what the most furious part of this all is? Szijjártó (whose call got leaked) said this is entirely normal. They don't even want to deny it. They are doing it in plain sight.
5
omnibossk Apr 1, 2026 +7
They needs to be expelled from the NATO and EU. If I didn’t hear this already, I would think it was a 1st of April joke

The Kremlin regime can't afford to lose the Hungarian election. Fidesz is sn essential Russian asset. It will be interesting to see how far Orbàn goes to hold on to power. Perhaps look at Georgia.

In the years to come, I believe history will show Vladimir Putin to have been the greatest threat to world peace & stability since the passing of a certain Austrian failed painter.

Zelensky is furious that Orban (and Trump) killed that EU funding plan for Ukraine.
-32
asethskyr Apr 1, 2026 +68
Hungarians are furious that Orbán and Szijjártó have _literally committed treason_. They're going down in eleven more days, and it will be glorious.
68
CurrentElectrical736 Apr 1, 2026 +9
I hope, unless those clowns fix the election.
9
Aristotallost Apr 1, 2026 +8
Of course he is. What's your point?
8
plebbit_delenda__est Apr 1, 2026 -12
All the screaming of 'treason!' in these Hungary threads has been pretty funny to watch, as if an independent state can commit treason against anything, or is somehow forbidden from talking with whatever country it wants to. The complete lack of awareness of what the EU is, and what rights its members as actual countries have, is pretty incredible to see though.
-12
TheAngrySaxon Apr 1, 2026 +1
So, as independent states, we can all work against Hungary's interests. 👍🏻
