Zelenskyy's translated (rough) declaration: >Taking into account numerous requests, for the humanitarian purpose outlined in the negotiations with the American side on May 8, 2026, I decide: >To allow a parade to be held in Moscow (Russian Federation) on May 9, 2026. >For the duration of the parade (from 10 a.m. Kyiv time on May 9, 2026), the territorial square of Red Square shall be excluded from the plan for the use of Ukrainian weapons. >Red Square Square: 55.754413 37.617733 55.755205 37.619181 55.753351 37.622854 55.752504 37.621538 >This Decree shall enter into force on the date of its signing. >President of Ukraine V. I’m not an expert at gps coordinate distances or anything, but that seems like an incredibly specific and small area to be protected, like, maybe still hit other parts of Moscow and not be breaking the agreement levels.

Sielent_Brat 4 days ago +811
Yes, it's a pretty small square. But more important is the fact that Ukrainian president gives out an *official decree* to allow Russian president to have a parade in Moscow. This is simply hilarious

I'm pretty sure if this is real that it is in response to President Putin's promise to level Kiev if the Victory Day Parade is interfered with by the NATO proxies in Ukraine.
0
Sielent_Brat 2 days ago +1
Putin gives away this "promise" every second week. Along with a promise "to start fighting in full-force" At this point it's more a thing to check calendar then a real threat. P. S. Kyiv, not Kiev. But since you write "NATO proxies in Ukraine" you're probably Russian anyway.

The change from "Kiev" to "Kyiv" was prompted by Ukraine's effort to assert an independent national identity and move away from Russian-rooted naming conventions. "Kyiv" is the correct transliteration from the Ukrainian language, whereas "Kiev" is derived from Russian, reflecting a push for de-Russification of Ukrainian place names.

These are the exact Red Square coordinates. +/-6 cm accuracy.

I_heart_cancer 4 days ago +26
Exactly. This is the most gangsta way to openly threaten Putin (and Russian infrastructure) with precision munitions without saying a single belligerent or overtly menacing word. It's so f****** good! And I'm confident Lil Paranoid Putie-Poot is picking up *exactly* what Zelinsky is putting down!

They mirrored the sort of language Russians use for years in communication: deragatory, humiliating mockery, not-so-veiled threats and explicit domination-submission rhetoric. Meanwhile, in his national address yesterday he confirmed full 3 day truce, followed by a huge prisoner swap. Let's see how it goes.

It's just the red square itself, the parade grounds but not the roads to the square where soldiers will have to march in order to get there. So it's impossible to hold the traditional parade entirely within the safe area. Zelensky is trolling and he's good at it.
67
Odd_Duty520 4 days ago +11
Also, it means the Kremlin complex is fair game
11
CryptographerHot3109 4 days ago +57
This decree is just trolling, because "Russia needs Ukraine's permission to hold the parade." This should not be taken as a real decree
57
Patriark 4 days ago +3
It is real. It is a result of Trump admin putting pressure on Ukraine to agree to a May 9 ceasefire. Ukraine understands that they need to pretend to play along for the 30 minutes of focus from the Trump admin before attention moves elsewhere. So they comply in the most narrow sense and use this decree to still signal that Russia cannot defend themselves.
3
fzammetti 3 days ago +2
Yes, and it's not just playing along with the U.S. for a minute. As much as I think we all viscerally would LOVE to see Ukraine bomb the hell out of red square after agreeing to a ceasefire, because Russia for sure deserves that karma, the fact is that a country that does that would look very bad on the world stage no matter how justified the action may be. They need to show they can be trusted and their word means something, both for support now and for the rebuild after. It's much better strategically to follow through on the ceasefire, ESPECIALLY after the decree trolls the hell out of Putin, which is a win in and of itself.. This is a master stroke and shows that Zelensky and his advisors actually get many things that Putin clearly does not.

...However we may fly a few reconnaissance drones over, so that we too can enjoy your wonderful parade, since you've banned all foreign media. (They're unarmed drones. Honest)

Where is this from? The linked Reuters article says a general ceasefire May 9-11. Nothing about just for the red square. EDIT: I looked into it and trump on truth social around 3 hours ago and said 3 day ceasefire which is what Reuters is reporting on. I do not know what statement came first but based on this listnook post they both seemed to have happened within 2-3 hours.

Thank you for sharing the source. The article you link for the post contradicts this. It seems odd that Reuters is reporting a much longer broader ceasefire, but your link is stating a very defined specific one.
7
Acrobatic_Sun_3275 4 days ago +8
Reuters is probably reporting the Russian 'ceasefire', which is just Putin declaring there will be no fighting on these days, which they've done every year of the war for this parade. Ukraine is not beholden to it and have routinely ignored it, but never done anything to affect the parade itself. This year there are alot of rumors that Ukraine may have a credible means to attack the parade, so Zelensky is taking some time to troll Putin and score some diplomatic wins while keeping military options open for literally everywhere that isn't the defined coordinate square.

https://www-president-gov-ua.translate.goog/documents/3742026-59389?_x_tr_sl=uk&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=en&_x_tr_pto=wapp The most authoritative source possible. Notice, that it's effective only "for the duration of the parade", which can be taken as 60-90 min for the official part.

That's dated for today. What time specifically today was that from? I looked into it and trump on truth social around 3 hours ago and said 3 day ceasefire which is what Reuters is reporting on. Wajina_Sloth 4 days ago +272
Calling it a ceasefire seems disingenuous since there will still be strikes from both sides, its just an exclusionary zone. My guess is they waited last minute to say this so Russia felt the need to move more air defence in the area. Would not be surprised at all if there was a mass strike into Russia to poke through the gaps and hit bases/factories/oil production

Chengar_Qordath 4 days ago +127
Have to agree. This isn’t a ceasefire, it’s just a promise not to bomb the World War II victory parades.

Hvarfa-Bragi 4 days ago +50
If you look at the square, all approaches to it are fair game. Literally only the review stand is safe. If they had tanks this year, they'd be fair game in the staging area. The building to the north is not even included; they could destroy it entirely and still be in compliance.
50
Pipapaul 4 days ago +7
Which would not have happened anyway.

Trump wants to call it a ceasefire. It's a prisoner exchange with a negotiated carve-out.
18
Shot-Toe-2884 4 days ago +79
Zelensky was very specific in his wording. The ceasefire only applies literally to red square at 10am for the duration of the parade. That’s it. He even specified the boundary coordinates for the zone that the ceasefire applies to, and it’s literally just Red Square lol and not one block more.

I was hoping Ukraine would do something like Operation Squabble from WW2. Drop a huge Ukraine flag over the parade in Red Square
34
Aerostudents 4 days ago +6
Technically they still could. The decree says they will not use weapons to target the parade, but a flag is not a weapon.
6

They really should. It could be a domino leading to topple Putin.
14
Xenon009 4 days ago +1
I'm torn, the ukrainians could go for dropping flags on the parade, and give putin an aneurysm, which would be funny as f***, or they could bomb a whole load of russian critical infrastructure, as their air defences have had to be pulled back to cover the parade. I honestly don't know whats better, but expect fireworks come morning.

Trump brokered ceasefires mean absolutely nothing. Zelensky made clear this only applied specifically to red square at 10am too. The rest of the city is fair game.
53
RobotSpaceBear 4 days ago -36
> The rest of the city is fair game. Ukraine would lose a ton of sympathy credits from the rest of the world if they attacked civilian infrastructures when so many military targets still exist. They wouldn't gain anything of they attacked Moscow outside of the square. Though having a ton of air defenses bunched up around Moscow during the parade leave other areas less protected. Valid military targets.
-36
Shot-Toe-2884 4 days ago +23
I’m not saying hit the civilians, I’m saying hit the military targets in the city proper. Whatever chaos within the city that ensues is Russia’s problem. This is why Ukraine doesn’t hold parades in an active warzone. Russia has targeted numerous military funerals in Ukraine. Would Russia withhold punches? No. They’ve demonstrated that again and again. So Ukraine shouldn’t either. The city is fair game. Hit it hard. Also it’s May 9th in Ukraine, and Russian forces have not ceased fire. Ceasefire has been broken. Putin has formally approved long range sanctions on Red Square.

Honestly I would love the Russians to feel war come home to them. However I think this is actually is a better deal.  1000 POWs get their freedom, Ukraine gets tonwash their hands of a 1000 POWs in return.  Not in the article but if OPs additional message is correct Ukraine can strike at a whole range of targets, just not the red square and parade.  Optics could look bad and increase support if the parade was a mass casualty event. Which in turn could unwind the discontent the Russians have been voicing more and more as prices rises.  More kinetic sanctions on their oil and gas infrastructure please. WTF BQQ is the US doing in these negotiations though, go fix your shit with Iran. Signed a Kiwi.

The prisoners would have to be vetted of course. Russia could be sneaking spies or saboteurs into Ukraine.

Putin's Little Parade has become nothing but a symbol for Russia's insane Arrogance and Hypocrisy. They celebrate themselves for having helped beat an anti-human warmongering terror regime that only brought hate and destruction and followed a crazed dictator, but they now stand for the exact same thing themselves. And they managed to do it in less than 100 years. Golf clap. Russia now stands for the core of what the Nazis stood for, while they go around and call everyone else a Nazi. And they support and leverage far-right movements everywhere, including Nazis in Germany, trying to get them into power. Absolutely insane and rotten to the core.

I know you're really hoping for more Russians and Ukrainians to die in a pointless war (they're at \~1,000,000+ dead now), but I'm going to burst your war mongering bubble lil' man. "Kyiv emphasized that the exchange, brokered by Donald Trump, is currently in the coordination phase and its realization depends on Washington’s role as a guarantor."
