It's not going to stop. Drone technology has clearly surpassed any viable countermeasures for the time being. Anything worth destroying in Russia is going to keep getting hit until they decide to make serious concessions for peace.

Until they decide to GTFO

We need to tell that to the Americans at Hormuz too.

Except Iranian drones aren’t a threat to the US like Ukrainian drones are to Russia, which is the entire point of this comment chain.

Ok_Wasabi8793 11 hr ago +7
US allies, global oil production, US military bases… they’re a threat to a bunch of stuff.  The point of the thread is that drones make it so the war in Ukraine is sufficiently bad for Russia that they’re unlikely to be able to sustain it. This is quite possibly true for americas war in Iran.
7
CronosWorks 11 hr ago +6
Yes, they’re a threat to some of those things. It’s not comparable leverage to sharing a land border and being in an active ground war. Ukraine can strike Moscow. Can Iran strike DC?
6
Ok_Wasabi8793 11 hr ago +2
Do you think Irans ability to strike American assets and allies assets has a massive influence on how America is forced to pursue diplomacy with Iran? Drones are a major factor in that war, so m not even convinced America could keep American troops on the ground safe at this point with how effective drones seem to be which largely negates americas ability to wage any kind of war that would be remotely popular.
2
CronosWorks 9 hr ago +2
The most popular kind of war America could wage is a long range aerial campaign like has been happening for some time now. Not that a war needs to be popular. Drones have 0 impact on that. And how do you think direct action against US Navy would turn out for Iran? Diplomatic relations aren’t required if a country ceases to exist.

They are a threat to anybody wanting to pass the strait and any local infrastructure. That's enough to cause global chaos. They don't need to threaten a carrier group directly.

Vano_Kayaba 12 hr ago +31
Viable countermeasures are there, Ukrainian ones are outpacing Russian drone attack scaling. Shaheds are less effective than a year ago, despite higher number of drones.

HarithBK 13 hr ago +35
There is a lot of western tech being developed and tested (some in Ukraine) to cost efficiently deal with drone threats that is showing promise. The issue is on the Russian side has very poor ability to develop these countermeasures. The really bad thing is that the US is being left in the dust here as it is Europe developing this tech which greatly harms the US military reach. All the while the parts are Chinese and they have the commercial sector locked down.

TheZombieFish 12 hr ago +28
Probably good timing on the US losing its excessive military dominance in all honesty, doubt it will last though unless theres somehow further idiocy

He's American. Like most of Listnook is. For them, the U.S. losing at anything is a bad thing, no matter how deserved.

That's a really good thing. We can't trust the US anymore.
1
crazedizzled 7 hr ago +1
The US is not left in the dust. They've been working on anti drone shit for a decade at least, and have several options.
1
Ippzz 12 hr ago +3
Well countermeasures are also drone related in this case. So it's only Russia that is surpassed technology wise. Ukraine can fend itself off with a 95% interception rate with shahed drones.
3
The_Only_Squid 13 hr ago +4
I mean sure that is one outcome, the other grim one is they go YOU KNOW WHAT screw your drones we got something far bigger and stronger and then just cause human devastation, However i do feel that if they were going to use that weaponry they would of already done that by now.

A1Wow 8 hr ago +1
They didn’t use nukes when Ukraine took land in Kursk, and they won’t in the future. That would turn everyone against Russia including China. They would be a lot more fucked than they already are.

As much as I agree, but there's now kind of an ecological catastrophy in the region, like oil rains and spills that kill animals (apart from humans, but we don't care about them).
13
Red_black_flag_07 11 hr ago +58
The Russian people always have the opportunity to stop this catastrophe, but they don't have the will. Just in one day.

The Ukrainians are in an existential battle for survival. If the Russians take over Ukraine, the Ukrainians will be systematically erased, like is already happening in the Donbas. If the Russians stop fighting and go home, the war ends and attacks on Russian infrastructure stop. If the Ukrainians stop fighting, they will be erased.

DotFX 9 hr ago -6
I am all in for Ukraine to erase ruzzia's money making factories. I just wish they continued how they did it previously - attack the expensive, most difficult to replace, equipment. Not make it harder for the animals (I mean literal animals, not ruzzians) to exist.

This is 3rd strike on same plant next day after previous attack fires were extinquished
30
Heavy_Secret_203 11 hr ago +14
Third strike in 2 weeks, to be precise. Russian air defence systems shortage is a thing now. That place used to be heavily protected last year.
14
CroGamer002 9 hr ago +5
All the while Putin is hoarding anti-air weapons around his personal palace.
5
Heavy_Secret_203 9 hr ago +3
Not only around Valdai, but around Moscow, Novorossiysk, Alabuga, and many military airfields. There are still many air defence systems in russia. But russians are forced to set their priorities. As you can see, that particular port is no longer a priority.

Decimated_zx 8 hr ago +1
Hitting alabuga plant would be massive

I know listnook likes to hate anyone from Russia these days, but it's not really funny with whole region swamped with black rain. Everything is coated in black and oil contaminating earth and water sources.

No, war is never funny. I am not endorsing Russian government here, it just grates me when people think it's funny when something that destroys innocent life happens. Whatever the side.

Sooooo anything withing drone distance is just a shooting gallery for Ukraine? "What air defense doing?" -Famous russian saying
68
ahrzal 12 hr ago +4
Tbh what can air defense do? Are the drones flying lower…like less than 75 feet above ground all the way there?
4
Tall-Reputation-9519 9 hr ago +2
No, these are essentially cruise missiles hitting the oil facilities now. I'm GUESSING it was the Ukrainian made Flamingo missile that did this. What drones have been doing this year is extending their reach beyond the Ukrainian lines to about 30 miles and going after the air defences in that zone. Before this year (ish) they were pretty much immune to drones unless a recon drone found them, reported the position back, HIMARS was brought up, fired while the defence system didn't move. Now they can send FPV drones in that far. This has thinned out the air defences a LOT allowing the cruise missiles to get through.

Ukranians have c**** anti-drone and anti-missile technology that can counter Iran's Shahed offensive missiles. The current US technology is orders of magnitude more expensive and rapidly being depleted. So it turns out that Ukraine *does* have some cards in hand to trade with the US after all. It's time for Trump to apologize for failing to seriously trade support and technology with Zelenskyy.

I think it would have been better if UKR allowed RUS to fully rebuild the facility and then level it the day before it reopened for business.

No, that would be a waste of a drone. It should be filled up first.

Apparently the heat of the flames vaporizes se of the oil that then comes back down as toxic rain. I've read that the fire poisoned the ground and water supply in the Russian black sea region that was a popular tourist destination.

Another oil price increase
1
Autumn_Ridge 14 hr ago -76
I'm rooting for Ukraine in the war. But in all honesty, the more Russian crude that gets taken offline, the more the Hormuz crisis will make prices go up. $200/barrel oil is coming. Edit: I thought there were only Russian listnook bots, but obviously the Ukrsnians have them too.

Be angry against Russia and everyone supporting it. That means the US, Iran, North Korea, EU, and China. Be angry against anyone who supports these evil economies.
32
fretkat 7 hr ago +1
The EU supports Ukraine. They are the biggest and most important supporter even. You are absolutely delusional if you think the EU supports Russia.
1
crazedizzled 7 hr ago +1
They're still buying Russian gas, lol
1
Autumn_Ridge 13 hr ago -20
You can be angry at whoever you like. If the US was supporting Ukraine like they should, then they would get better intelligence and technology, and they wouldn't have to attack oil. They could go after Putin and his generals instead. But we won't help them, which only drives up the cost of gas in the US.

Let the aggressors of the US, Israel, and Russia leave the countries they are illegally invading and your problem would be solved. Don't blame the victim, blame the aggressor.
