Urgent Message to Democrats: Stop Dragging Your Feet and End Trump's Iran War | Common Dreams
Many congressional Democrats seem more interested in using Trump's war on Iran to score victories in the midterms than to use what power they do have to bring it to an end.

Challenge: Media hold republicans accountable while they control WH & Congress Difficulty: impossible
1033
imnotthomas Apr 2, 2026 +387
Murc’s Law. The media assumes only Democrats have agency to do anything, so they get blamed for not stopping republicans. The media treats Republican actions like weather, no agency just a thing that happens and can cause catastrophes. Can’t blame the weather. It treats Democrats as humans and adults that could have done something to prepare for the disaster caused by the weather and when they don’t they get the blame for the disaster occurring, not the Republicans. It’s extremely frustrating.

I had a similar thought while watching a video about the whole DOGE DEI thing. The presumption is that if a documentary or project focuses exclusively on men, then it isn’t discriminatory: it’s an unexamined assumption that history should focus on white men.
62
Andy_Fish_Gill Apr 2, 2026 +16
DOGE provided yet another example how white men can be the most incompetent demographic.

adrr Apr 2, 2026 +10
Media gives a free pass to republicans in purple districts that voted against the resolution to stop Trumps war. There’s enough of them to get it passed. Instead they blame the Dems even though they don’t control congress. Media could easily focus on these purple districts and get these republicans to vote to get us out of Iran. They did it with the epstein files to get some repubs to get a bill passed.

Mainly due to who owns the news agencies nowadays.

Traditional_Sign4941 Apr 2, 2026 +17
I mean.... it's not wrong. Republicans are drones. It is fully, 100% expected they will operate like a Borg collective, and that their mission is to always do the most wrong, awful thing. It is in their very nature. They are hardly what anyone could call sapient. But when dealing with a collective that isn't reasonable, the tone of how they should be dealt with, needs to shift, and that's where the media has failed. It keeps expecting the Dems to find a way to reason with those who are deliberately or functionally unreasonable.
17
WildYams Apr 2, 2026 +30
The media also seems to expect that the Dems, who are out of power at all levels of federal government, should be expected to, and are able to, stop Trump and the Republicans from doing what they're doing. The reality is the Dems don't have the power to stop *any* of this shit. All they can do is make a big stink and hope it has electoral consequences this fall, but really that's it. Trump is breaking the law every day, but his DOJ isn't doing anything about it, the Republican majorities in Congress aren't doing anything about it, and the Supreme Court isn't doing anything about it. Those are the people with the power to stop this shit, not the Democrats. I f****** *hate* how many people want to blame the Democrats for this, especially when I suspect that many of those who want to blame them most likely did not vote for Kamala in 2024. If you really wanted to stop Trump, voting for the one person who could have kept him out of the White House was the best way to do so. If you couldn't bring yourself to cast that vote, then you have no right to complain.

TheLORDthyGOD420 Apr 2, 2026 +2
"Common dreams" is a leftist media outlet. They thrive by pandering to people who hate "corporate Dems" and "establishment Dems", ect. Almost every article I see from them is some sort of hit job against Democrats. It's best to just ignore this bullshit.
2
WildYams Apr 2, 2026 +6
Agreed 100%. But in addition to ignoring their bullshit, I also think it's worthwhile to call it out in the comments here so more people are aware of their bullshit. There's far too many people in these comments who are fully on board with their nonsense.
6
acceptmeasiam Apr 2, 2026 +67
Because billionaires own the press now. The liberal media isnt real.

PlentyAny2523 Apr 2, 2026 +17
This has been an issues since f****** Vietnam
17
genital_lesions Apr 2, 2026 +34
You're absolutely correct. As much as the Democrats frustrate me with their current leadership and inept messaging, this war is 100% **not** on them. At all.
34
TheGoonSquad612 Apr 2, 2026 +19
Seriously, it’s pathetic. These media outlets hold everyone except the parties responsible to the fire.
19
Bitter_Tea442 Apr 2, 2026 +30
Common Dreams editors wake up every day with a new clickbait headline blaming Democrats for Republicans governance and policies.
30
notfeelany Apr 2, 2026 +27
Whenever the news that's genuinely and truly bad for Trump, there'll pop news/comments etc that "conveniently" remind people to also "both sides" it & hate on Democrats. And ppl will fall for the psyops everytime
27
duckinradar Apr 3, 2026 +1
Stop blaming the minority and start blaming Mitch and the rest of them
1
Coolegespam Apr 2, 2026 +3
Yeah, Common Dream has been helping facists and republicans from the sidelines forever. Like the left says, they're controlled opposition. They control redirect left anger away from the Republicans causing damage and point at the center left party. It works. Almost perfectly. EDIT: And because someone is going to argue it, Democrats are center-left on average. They fight for the majority of what the left wants, yes there are outliers, on both sides of the line. On average they support massive expansion of public health care, worker rights, progressive taxation (Kamala was pushing a wealth tax, something even Europe doesn't have), etc.
3
KrakenOmega112 Apr 2, 2026 +1057
Yeah, if only the Democrats in congress would introduce a wars power bill to disallow the war in Iran. (/s, just in case someone doesn't know that they did)
1057
Pump_and_Magdump Apr 2, 2026 +418
Well how dare they not use their magical powers to just force it into action!
418
OswaldCoffeepot Apr 2, 2026 +121
A summary of a conversation with someone who only reads headlines: "But the Republicans were in the minority when they stopped a thing with Biden! No, I don't how they did it, but this scenario is probably similar!" Now that I type that out though... it never occurs to them that the situations aren't literally the same.
121
SeductiveSunday Apr 2, 2026 +51
Republicans did something bad. Media blames Democrats. Rinse. Repeat.
51
silvertealio Apr 2, 2026 +45
America: votes Democrats out of power at every level Also America: Why won't Democrats stop the Republicans??
45
Brndrll Apr 2, 2026 +30
People out there expecting Biden, or Harris, or even Obama to be running some overt shadow government from their personal social media service like Trump did from 2021-2025.
30
CSAtWitsEnd Apr 2, 2026 +6
Also just ignoring that it's easier to break systems and do illegal things when you don't *really* care about the outcome because your only goal is to make things unstable and terrorize poor people and minorities. Much harder to build things and do illegal things when you want those things to be helpful and last.
6
Bitter_Tea442 Apr 2, 2026 +28
A huge portion of this sub thinks that makes sense when their entire post history (when they aren't hiding it) is demoralizing Democratic voters.
28
OswaldCoffeepot Apr 2, 2026 +13
It's so frustrating to me how people recognize that the news media gives Trump preferential treatment in order to avoid political threats to their business, but take as gospel every anti-Dem headline.
13
Bitter_Tea442 Apr 2, 2026 +4
Propaganda that doesn't fit my bias: 🤬 Propaganda that fits my bias: 😇
4
MiddleAgedSponger Apr 2, 2026 +4
You didn't read the article. The article didn't relate to the headline. It was more about how democratic leadership tacitly supported the war, but also though it was a win/win in regards to the election.
4
spiral8888 Apr 2, 2026 +47
The democratic leadership introduced a [resolution ](https://www.reuters.com/world/us/us-house-rejects-war-powers-resolution-backs-trump-iran-war-2026-03-05/) to stop the war right in the beginning. Except for 4 members of the house, all democrats voted for it. The article doesn't even mention the vote because it doesn't fit their narrative. Sure, even if it had passed it would have died in the senate, but again only because the Republicans would have voted against it.
47
Cicero912 Apr 2, 2026 +48
They also keep bringing up that the Democrats werent trying to stop it, which is not true.
48
lancer-fiefdom Apr 2, 2026 +3
That’s an act of empowerment exclusive to the president according to the supreme court
3
Fit_Smile1146 Apr 2, 2026 +97
Right! Republicans have all three branches of government. They need to stop the war.
97
The360MlgNoscoper Apr 2, 2026 +40
*Four Don’t forget the media
40
ezagreb Apr 2, 2026 +72
Yeah these articles get a little tiresome and make it sound like the Democrats are sitting on their hands doing nothing when they have no control over any branch of government and all they can do is be obstructionist with the budget
72
ubermence Apr 2, 2026 +18
And the Republicans caved to the Dems on DHS funding
18
WildYams Apr 2, 2026 +4
But because the GOP has the majorities in both houses of Congress they're still going to be able to get their funding passed using budget reconciliation, something the Democrats are utterly powerless to stop. This won't prevent leftists from somehow figuring out a way to blame the Democrats though, of this I have no doubt.
4
Sweet_Concept2211 Apr 2, 2026 +2
"Leftists"... In point of fact, online provocateurs doing their level best to divide the left, even as the right unites.
2
WildYams Apr 2, 2026 +2
Yep, but unfortunately leftist online provocateurs like Hasan Piker are the ones doing the most damage by being so effective in dividing the left.
2
ahkian Apr 2, 2026 +11
The article talks about multiple Democrats being willing to vote for even more funding for the war. Sure they can't unilaterally stop the war but they don't have to vote for funding.
11
Iron_Maw Apr 2, 2026 +12
Which is stupid because a couple of dems=/=every or a majority of dems. A couple of Rs don't want support Trump's war either but doesn't mean they are representative of GOP position on the war

3
bloodontherisers Apr 2, 2026 +2
Whoa, whoa, whoa, how are they supposed to get all those clicks for the shareholders though? Can't just be calling Trump out on his bullshit, that would never generate clicks and the plebes might start to get the idea that Trump isn't normal.

althor2424 Apr 2, 2026 +25
Shouldn’t the title read Urgent Message to Republicans since they are the party that controls both houses of Congress? I hate articles like this that keep trying to shift the blame to the Democrats when they are not the ones in control of the houses of Congress
25

Look Common dreams and another Democrat hit piece
264
Financial-Desk-669 Apr 2, 2026 +173
1) Spend all of 2024 demoralizing and kneecapping Democratic turnout. 2) Spend all of 2025 and 2026 attacking Democrats with a Republican White House, House, Senate,  and Supreme Court 3) Profit?
173
GarryofRiverton Apr 2, 2026 +76
It wouldn't surprise me to find out that rags like this get big donations from Republicans to constantly depress turnout and enthusiasm for Dems.

OswaldCoffeepot Apr 2, 2026 +12
Attacking from the left is a real benefit for the GOP. I think we're starting to *really* see the MAGA accounts cos playing as Leftists, with this vaguely manosphere type of challenge around who's h******* and who's pathetic.
12
mottledmussel Apr 2, 2026 +16
As well as all of the *oh, sweet summer child, YOU really think there are going to mid-terms?* type posts that are rampant all over the place.
16
BriSy33 Apr 2, 2026 +13
"Id fight conservatives anywhere" mfers immediately abdicating elections entirely because "Oh theyre just gonna rig them" Like yeah theyre gonna try and do f*** shit. But you still gotta vote snd not just ceede that ground immediately
13
Brndrll Apr 2, 2026 +3
But what if there's bad things happening somewhere else in the world? Then I definitely shouldn't vote, right?
3
SeductiveSunday Apr 2, 2026 +3
I mean last night on Colbert, Meryl Streep was warning women to get their ID's in order because she believes women won't be allowed to vote in the upcoming mid-terms. Democrats will lose big without women voting. It'll be like no election happened at all.
3
Hoodrow-Thrillson Apr 2, 2026 +3
Half of their articles are hit pieces on Democrats and the other half run defense for authoritarian regimes. They are 100% foreign funded. Almost all online media on the far-right and far-left is.
3
11minspider Apr 2, 2026 +32
Its like clockwork, they want the Democrats to magically solve every issue and go into childish fits of rage when they cannot
32
Brndrll Apr 2, 2026 +3
I'm just waiting for their promotion of Tucker Carlson as a left-wing hero, all because of his anti-Israel views.
3
DarkChaplain Apr 2, 2026 +180
Ah, yes, the party that is decidedly *not* in charge, which hasn't stacked the courts with loyalist pricks, is supposed to get into gear and end fix things so the *other* party need not grow a spine and speak up against their dear leader. Figures.

Why won't the fire truck that's run out of water put out the fire?!!!
38
DarkChaplain Apr 2, 2026 +54
> Why won't the fire truck that's run out of water put out the fire **that the other, closer, completely filled up firetruck & crew refuses to take seriously instead of constantly trying to appease the inferno for personal benefit**?!!! Expanded that a little.
54
Significant_Cup_238 Apr 2, 2026 +28
The truck we collectively voted not to fill up with water no less.
28
Brndrll Apr 2, 2026 +9
"I couldn't vote for the water, because people have drowned. It was my moral duty to warn everyone who would listen about the dangers of water and how they needed to help make sure it was stopped before anyone else could drown! The uncontrollable fire killing thousands, and disrupting millions of lives? That's not my fault! I voted *against* water, not *for* fire! Water just needs to work harder at being perfect and earning my vote next time!"
9
chowderbags Apr 2, 2026 +5
"And really, when it comes down to it, both water and fire are bad, right? And both are just Aristotelian elements anyway."
5
Big_Bookkeeper1678 Apr 2, 2026 +16
The other fire truck is too busy pouring gasoline at the fire, saying all the time, this will be good for us ALL in the long run. Meanwhile, the fat cats are on the other side of the fire, roasting marshmallows and laughing at how fun it is to burn an entire neighborhood down just to have a snack.
16
Blackboard_Monitor Apr 2, 2026 +6
Short term flammability for long term inflammability.
6
IolausTelcontar Apr 2, 2026 +3
But those words mean…. /sad cry
3
Big_Bookkeeper1678 Apr 2, 2026 +4
To expand a bit more... They don't care...it isn't THEIR neighborhood. When they burnt their own neighborhood down, the fire trucks always do their job.
4
jfoster0818 Apr 2, 2026 +2
The other fire truck is being run by a guy who knows the owner of the house and knows he is looking forward to the insurance payout.
2
Sofer2113 Apr 2, 2026 +3
This is closer to blaming the firefighters for your house burning down, while they are doing what they can to put it out, meanwhile the arsonist who started the fire is standing right beside you telling you they started the fire.
3
ChefCurryYumYum Apr 2, 2026 +16
Why isn't it an urgent message to Republicans?
16
Panro911 Apr 2, 2026 +58
It’s interesting how Republicans can make things worse for years at a time, control all branches of government but the Democrats need to stop dragging their feet?
58
MazzIsNoMore Apr 2, 2026 +137
Urgent message to commondreams: how?
137
HagbardCelineHMSH Apr 2, 2026 +54
The part that annoys me is that these articles are written by people who don't seem to understand that putting up a bill that is destined to fail doesn't come without costs. It makes Democrats look weak and it makes people take them even less seriously. When you're in the minority you want to grab victories where you can and show you're strong even when you don't have the numbers. You do that by picking your battles and grabbing wins wherever you can, no matter how small.
54
previouslyonimgur Apr 2, 2026 +43
Assuming they “don’t understand” is a very generous assumption. These aren’t high school students who’ve never actually interacted with the world. These are adults usually with journalism or political science degrees, who know the consequences, but write these articles because the “outrage machine” draws attention and clicks, but realism and a realistic answer don’t.
43
Dreadedvegas Apr 2, 2026 +14
You'd be surprised at how often journalists and political science degrees vastly overestimate how much they understand even basic things and rely on their own hubris. Ego really drives a lot of this stuff and because they're often in a bubble where they don't get pressed they just keep assuming they're right and feed on each other.
14
snapekillseddard Apr 2, 2026 +2
Read any article on legal cases or scientific studies. Journalists have little to no understanding of what they report, but worse, many don't have the self-awareness to know that they don't know jack.
2
mokomi Apr 2, 2026 +4
> It makes Democrats look weak and it makes people take them even less seriously. They even tried to get it in writing that republicans are against your interests with these bills. That didn't work at all.
4
BatManatee Apr 2, 2026 +5
Yep. The average American doesn't understand how our government works at all. So it's frustrating when there are articles/posts about proposed legislation that has zero chance of passing. [Like this one on the front page of listnook right now.](https://old.listnook.com/r/clevercomebacks/comments/1sabnec/bombing_abroad_starving_citizens_at_home/\)) Then people get disillusioned when nothing happens because they don't understand how a bill becomes a law.
5
CSAtWitsEnd Apr 2, 2026 +2
Literally can't win lol. If they vote for things that we want and it doesn't succeed, it's "performative". If they don't vote at all, they're "cowards". If they vote for things we do like and it DOES succeed, it's "bare minimum" / "not enough". Swear people have "f*** all democrats" as a conclusion and work backwards.
2
Dreadedvegas Apr 2, 2026 +23
Commondreams is a rag that just hates democrats and doesn't want to acknowledge the limitations of being in the minority in Congress.
23
Bitter_Tea442 Apr 2, 2026 +16
When people talk about the controlled opposition, they should be talking specifically about rags like Commondreams carrying water for Republicans (and Russia).
16
Dreadedvegas Apr 2, 2026 +5
Its not just rags publications. There is a lot of pundits out there that do it too that are somehow gaining influence in the party.
5
nowander Apr 2, 2026 +9
You're too kind. It's a propaganda outfit designed to help the Republican party by destroying the Democrats from the left. Like Sinema and all the other 'I'm the real leftist' crew.
9
Brndrll Apr 2, 2026 +6
>by destroying the Democrats from the left Bernie's doing his part with Gabbard and Fetterman.
6
ShadowBard0962 Apr 2, 2026 +59
End it how? What would you have the Democrats do?
59
previouslyonimgur Apr 2, 2026 +28
No no. It’s not enough that the democrats have exhausted every option. Clearly it’s the democrats fault for failing to magically change the number system so that having less representatives gives them the majority and actual power.
28
pithynotpithy Apr 2, 2026 +22
I love the fact that everything is always the Dems fault. Sure, the republicans control every lever of power, screamed from the top of their lungs that Trump was the peace president 2 years ago and then happily dance for him as we are dragged in another middle eastern war - but of course, it's the Dems fault. JFC
22
BlotchComics Apr 2, 2026 +84
Does the author understand that as the minority party in both chambers of congress the Democrats have no power to end the war?
84
AFlockOfTySegalls Apr 2, 2026 +72
Author is one of the idiots in all of the comment sections of left leaning instagram posts saying "DO SOMETHING THEN" despite the fact that democrats almost literally have no power to do anything.
72
alienbringer Apr 2, 2026 +51
I have had this conversation multiple times now on listnook about that. When pressed on what they actually want them to do. It boils down to “go on social media or the press more frequently to call the admin out”. It doesn’t ACTUALLY do anything. Just shows that they are angry. Their “do something” is nothing more than “be performative”.
51
Dottsterisk Apr 2, 2026 +28
And then when there are headlines about Dems going on national tv and calling out the Trump Regime, the narrative flips and Dems are “just grandstanding” and need to take action. Repeat ad nauseam.
28
AFlockOfTySegalls Apr 2, 2026 +33
Which tracks because many of these same people care more about being performative than being pragmatic. Example being the people (if real) who posted here during the campaign about how they *might* not vote for Kamala over Gaza as a threat.
33
JDDJS Apr 2, 2026 +4
Yes. This narrative infuriates me so much. I see it all the time on Listnook where people say that the Democratic party is just as bad as the Republican party because they're not stopping Trump, and completely ignore the fact that Democrats don't currently have the power to stop him.
4
Dreadedvegas Apr 2, 2026 +5
Welcome to like half the democratic electorate where they think social media posts = doing something. Its entirely centered around patting themselves on the back.
5
Bitter_Tea442 Apr 2, 2026 +2
They will move the goal posts endlessly because they are trapped in a purity spiral.
2
EnTyme53 Apr 2, 2026 +2
And when a democrat actually does go on social media or legacy media to speak out, they complain that it is purely performative. Unless that democrat is AOC or Bernie, in which case they praise their courage.
2
HagbardCelineHMSH Apr 2, 2026 +5
Reminds me of the foreigners who post around here who blame *all* Americans for the Trump mess and get mad because our protests aren't enough. We do what we have the support and resources to do. Up to this point that's been massive weekend protests. That's all we can do because the numbers and resources just aren't there for more. If we could do more we would do more. We don't have a magic wand to just magically fix everything like they think they would if they were in our situation. Organization, leadership, and resources don't just materialize out of nowhere.
5

HagbardCelineHMSH Apr 2, 2026 +4
Same. It's easy to sit on their high horses when they've never been in the situation, largely due to the fact that their forebears looked out for them better than ours did in terms of economic policies and social safety nets. My favorites are the ones who allude to the "French solution" - they're afraid to directly say it despite not even living here yet they have the nerve to blame us for not actually doing it.

29
maraemerald2 Apr 2, 2026 +9
Wtf are you talking about? Democrats don’t have the power or the obligation to end Trump’s war. American voters made it clear in 2024 that Democrats shouldn’t have power, so now we as a whole shouldn’t be whining that they’re not using power that we explicitly didn’t give them.
9
JDDJS Apr 2, 2026 +17
I'm actually pleasantly surprised to see all of the top comments calling out this article as BS. So many times I've seen people making similar arguments here and calling the Democratic party complicit because they don't stop Trump while ignoring the fact that Democrats don't currently have the power to stop Trump.
17
voodoodahl Apr 2, 2026 +2
Probably a mistake with bot coordination. Commondreams are amateurs.  The New Republic, however. Anything critical of democrats,  especially leadership, will have 10k baked in upvotes and entire comment chains of bots saying the standard script.

I'm sorry who controls the legislative branch? Oh right the Republicans, why don't you ask them the same question?

The only thing more tiring than these idiotic, disingenuous articles and editorials is how many people will nod along and grumble, "Yeah! Why aren't Democrats doing anything about it?"
9
PlentyAny2523 Apr 2, 2026 +8
Yeah, once again attack dems for a policy that republicans enacted on their own. This is why no one takes these websites seriously

Republicans have a majority in the house and the senate. You are asking the wrong party to do something about this.
14
gwsth Apr 2, 2026 +6
I'm not sure which is worse: Articles like this demanding that Democrats "Do something" despite (a) not defining what you're even expecting them to do, and (b) Democrats being the minority party and therefore having no power Or all the copium articles that say there are "cracks in MAGA" or that the GOP are "furious" with Trump and are starting to turn against him, then show that he slipped like 2% in some random poll but is still in the same approval range he's been for the last 10 years. Both should be banned.
6
TellTaleTimeLord Apr 2, 2026 +13
Yeah, how dare the Democrats immediately introduce a bill to kill Trump's war powers and then it be immediately voted down by Republicans
13
blackmobius Apr 2, 2026 +13
I want to wake up one day to a country that stops blaming democrats for every single republican f*** up. *It is not the job of democrats to clean up and fix what republicans broke.* and if for some reason it is **then stop f****** electing republicans**. Blame the people that are in charge of the government, full stop. Not anyone else.

Any reason they're not asking the Republicans other than the collective belief they don't count?
33
Resies Apr 2, 2026 +3
80% of Republicans support the war, less than 10% of Dems do. Why do you think Republican politicians would oppose it
3
Internal_Swing_2743 Apr 2, 2026 +9
Yeah right? If only democrats had the power in the congress to do that as the minority party in both houses
9
PuddingTea Apr 2, 2026 +10
Why won’t Hakeem Jeffries push his magic “end war” button??????
10
butt3ryt0ast Apr 2, 2026 +10
What would you have them do when they’re the minority? Maybe hold hold republicans accountable and stop voting for them so the adults can be in charge again
10
Pubs01 Apr 2, 2026 +32
this is some brain dead slop

Murc’s Law in action!

Chantrak Apr 2, 2026 +5
I knew it I f****** knew it. Republicans literally run everything right now but somehow things will be solely on dems.
5
gibby256 Apr 2, 2026 +4
.... What? Does this author understand that Dems aren't in power? They've *been* voting to remove trumps authorization for use of military force, but there aren't enough republicans willing to go against Daddy for it to pass. Common Dreams is not a serious publication, and never has been. I do not understand how it still gets posted here.

ThisDerpForSale Apr 2, 2026 +5
I thought, this can’t possibly be as stupid as the headline sounds. Spoiler: it is. Just so stupid. It almost gets there when discussing which Democratic congresspeople are indicating they’ll support a request for hundreds of billions more in war funding. And that’s pretty much it. How can Democrats “End Trumps War”? What’s the magic bullet? Where’s the plan? Nothing? Great.
5
LightHeartsLiveLong Apr 3, 2026 +4
AIPAC won’t let them.
4
Ketzeph Apr 2, 2026 +19
Legitimate question - why is common dreams not banned like Breitbart and other rags? It is constantly attacking democrats, usually with shit like this where the Dems *already introduced a bill to do this but the R majority voted it down*. Are the “writers” at common dreams so dumb they don’t understand American civics or who controls Congress? Or is it just all AI at this point? What happened to civics education in the US that someone could blame democrats for not stopping this? I pray it’s a machine as it is unfathomably depressing to assume any human could be so dumb

spam__likely Apr 2, 2026 +6
right?
6
PracticeNo9768 Apr 2, 2026 +17
Yes, please blame Dems more and ensure the left infighting keeps us under fascist control. Way to go common dreams.
17
StaticNegative Apr 2, 2026 +6
With what? A strong worded letter? There is nothing they can do until the Dems take the House and lessen the gop majority in the senate
6
oledesertslewfoot Apr 2, 2026 +7
Why is common dreams even allowed to be posted here anymore? Absolute joke of a headline and article.
7
amapofthecat7 Apr 2, 2026 +3
How exactly are they supposed to do that?
3
SomeSchmidt Apr 2, 2026 +3
Yeah, see, it's the Democrat's fault we're at war again! /s
3
Ornery-Ticket834 Apr 2, 2026 +2
Democrats can’t end the war. Please say something meaningful.
2
chiaboy Apr 2, 2026 +3
Yeah…this is the democrats fault!!!! lol
3
pelestorm Apr 2, 2026 +4
Israel is controlling the democrats too
4
Calm_Masterpiece_841 Apr 2, 2026 +3
Realistically, there are a lot of Dems in office that secretly wanted this and are willing to let it play out...
3
BicFleetwood Apr 2, 2026 +3
Not enough. Cut ties with Israel. The "f*** Israel" position is the POPULAR position across the board. It's an 80% issue among Democratic voters alone. If the Democrats don't step into that space, the Republicans WILL.
3
AuthorReedAlexander Apr 2, 2026 +3
Yeah, watch me as I hold my breath... 😒
3

How are they going to do that when only about 5 of them aren't in Israel's pocket?
3

They're beholden to the same Zionist masters.
1
Obvious-Gate9046 Apr 2, 2026 +6
F*** you (the article, not OP). Seriously, what kind of disingenuous garbage is this? If they had the power to end it, they would have. They have tried, but Republicans seem happy to let Trump rumble about destroying everything he lays eyes on. So here's a hearty f*** you to this author for once again holding Democrats accountable for something Republicans are doing. Bravo, Really brave stance.
6
urmumlol9 Apr 2, 2026 +6
How? They tried to pass a War Powers resolution and the Republican majority voted against it. Genuinely what the f*** do you expect them to do?
6
BigBoyYuyuh Apr 2, 2026 +5
Dear CommonDreams.org. With what f****** power!? What a shit article.
5
normalice0 Apr 2, 2026 +4
Normalice's law: There is fundamentally nothing Republicans can do that some troll on the internet won't try to blame on Democrats.
4
wildfyre010 Apr 2, 2026 +4
F***'s sake, how is it again the Democrats' fault that the GOP-controlled Congress refuses to act?
4
123-Moondance Apr 2, 2026 +4
WTF? Republicans hold the Presidency, the Senate, The House, and the SCOTUS. What the f*** are the Dems supposed to do? Maybe people should have voted and voted for Dems so they would have the majority in Congress and we would not be in this mess. But the R's own it 100%.
4
FosterFl1910 Apr 2, 2026 +7
Last I checked, the current commander in chief isn’t a Democrat.
7
RociBuldidi Apr 2, 2026 +6
And pray tell what Hogwarts level wizardry are they supposed to employ with their current numbers?
6
spiral8888 Apr 2, 2026 +2
I really don't understand the point of this piece at all. The democrats introduced a resolution in the House of representatives on March 5 to call for an end to the war. Every single Democratic representative voted for it. It didn't get passed because the Republicans opposed it. So, what's the point of telling Democrats to end the war when they already tried to do it and it failed? What are you supposed to do when you're the minority party? If the majority votes against your resolutions to end the war, then you can't end the war. Period. Edit. I had to fact check myself. 4 Democrats voted against the resolution to end the war. 2 Republicans voted for it.

Yes, the party with literally zero power in the federal government is at fault. Thanks, Common Communists.

Urgent Message to CommonDreams: Stop Doing All You Can To Prevent Democrats From Winning Elections And Then Blaming Them For Being Unable To Stop Republicans Who Control All Three Branches Of Government.
2
Initial_Brush_64 Apr 2, 2026 +2
The democrats that could stop this were voted out.
2
Thotmas01 Apr 2, 2026 +2
The time to stop it was in the hours before it began. At this point we’ve killed off the old regime, replaced it with a new regime, and given the new regime plenty of reason to hate us. They’re going to sprint for nukes and thanks to our actions are potentially willing to nuke us. We got dragged into this shit by Trump but now we have to double down. They have to lose the uranium.
2
55redditor55 Apr 2, 2026 +2
May I remind you that Republicans are also part of congress and the senate?
2
Banjoschmanjo Apr 2, 2026 +2
How?
2
GunsGoldCosmicDread Apr 2, 2026 +2
It’s almost like in a vacuum most of these democrats would be on board with the War in Iran. Since it hurts Trump, let’s talk about it nonstop, do nothing to resolve it, let it drag on and reap the benefits. I do not believe most of these Dem politicians actually oppose this war.
2
pattysal Apr 2, 2026 +2
Newsflash buddy, they aren't dragging their feet, they don't care.
2

Utterly ridiculous to blame democrats for this. Like absolutely nuts.
5

Sorry, Commondreams. I’m not falling for your endless routine of blame Democrats for everything Republicans do. Nice try though.
6

That's like telling a floor level employee to save the company from mismanagement. B**** I don't have any power here. I'm just along for the ride.
4
Biscuits4u2 Apr 2, 2026 +2
How exactly do they do that when they don't have a majority in either body of Congress?
2
snapekillseddard Apr 2, 2026 +3
Just ban commondreams from the sub, man.
3
zeekayz Apr 2, 2026 +4
Dems are in a bind because a large part of the democratic party is elected to represent Israel. Iran war helps Israel so they can't put up a unified opposition to it like they could for other GOP transgressions.
4
GeneralIronsides2 Apr 3, 2026 +2
“Surely we need to blame the democrats, not the republicans doing the war who own all three levels of government”
2
Toxitoxi Apr 2, 2026 +5
I was hoping when I read this article to see an actual idea for what the Democrats could do that I had missed. There wasn’t one.
5
trashbort Apr 2, 2026 +6
You know who I blame? The party out of power. Contrast the reporting on this with the reporting on the Democrats successful actions to get TSA agents paid while also keeping additional funds from ICE and CPB https://www.commondreams.org/news/dhs-funding-deal-reached Perpetually the case that Democrats aren't doing enough, never a recognition when they notch wins, it's truly a wonder they are so unpopular
6
HR_DUCK Apr 2, 2026 +2
Urgent message to the news outlet: blame the party who holds all three branches responsible.
2

How? They are minority in both chambers.
3
RumRunnerMax Apr 2, 2026 +3
How would that work exactly?
3

The Democrats don't control Congress.
5
smiama36 Apr 2, 2026 +3
Why do Democrats continually eat their own? These headlines only show how ignorant the left can be about how government works. Where is your urgent message to REPUBLICANS? You know... the ones with the actual power to pressure Trump into stopping this war?
3
spam__likely Apr 2, 2026 +3
they are not democrats.
3
tweda4 Apr 2, 2026 +4
Ok, so actually reading the article, I think the headline is doing a severe disservice to a point that frustrates a lot of people. The actual article itself isn't complaining that Democrats aren't stopping the war, but complaining about *the way* democrats are talking about the conflict. Democrats don't talk about this being an illegal war. They don't talk about the immorality of attacking a nation for no reason and "accidentally" murdering children. Instead they complain that Republicans didn't follow "procedure". They complain that Trump hasn't provided "specific war goals". And they say that "Trump can't win without boots on the ground" as if this is all just a game of Risk. They don't say - There was no reason for the US to attack Iran, thousands are now dead, neighbouring nations are suffering, and people across the globe will suffer because of oil and fertiliser shortages. No, instead they point out that fuel prices going up and smugly say that it's going to be bad for Republicans in the midterms. Most Democratic politicians give no indication that they actually give a shit about the wanton murder being commited in the middle east, and don't give a shit about all the death and suffering this war has, will, and could cause. Instead they mostly seem chafed that Republicans didn't follow procedure, and smug that this will help them in the midterms. That's what this article is about.

tapdncingchemist Apr 2, 2026 +6
Ok, but their argument makes sense. Most adults understand that there \*are\* circumstances in which war is appropriate. It's naive to just be against war in any situation. For me personally, the bar of justifying it would be high, but not impossible. The most effective argument for opposing the war is to say that the justification is not worth the cost. But we've been given no justification, so it's hard to make that argument. The Democrats are basically saying that a sufficient argument has not been made. And that's true. And we all quietly know that if Trump tried to justify the war it would be bullshit. But since he hasn't actually made a coherent argument, there's no surface area to attack him there. Them pointing out his complete thoughtlessness in starting this war is so much stronger than trying to argue that all war is inherently unjustified.
