I can't wait to see how Trump's new deal with Iran is so much better than Obama's deal .

Sherool May 6, 2026 +93
Bet he will sign a white peace, no nuclear program deal just re-open the oil flow that closed because of his war in the first place and call it a win. Then Israel will probably bomb them again within a month and it's back to square one.
93
lifesnofunwithadhd May 6, 2026 +41
Hell, he'll tote reopening the straight as the greatest military achievement since teddy Roosevelt beat Hitler in ww2
41
usemyfaceasaurinal May 6, 2026 +22
As much as I dislike the Iranian regime, I can’t see any long term goals for them other than pursuing nuclear weapons. Israel and US shown themselves to be negotiating in bad faith and previous breaks in hostilities were opportunities for Israel to plan their next attack.

aaronwhite1786 May 6, 2026 +8
That's what's frustrating with all of this stupidity. The IRGC is probably more powerful in Iran than before the war, and now they've got a scenario where the likely outcome is that they take the leverage they have with Trump clearly being desperate to get out of this mess he created by them agreeing to turn over the "dust" he obsesses over while they decide to add a new toll to shipping traffic in exchange for their peace agreement. So the likely outcome of that a regime that just got younger, is even less likely to negotiate with the US going forward (hard to imagine a hard-line leader would want to negotiate with the country that killed his father, son and wife with airstrikes) and now the country will have a great source of revenue to restart their nuclear program and to get tons of weapons from someone like Russia or China. So the administration in a short time has blown away a nuclear weapons treaty and replaced it with nothing for years, and now might replace it with something that accomplishes a fraction of what the JCPOA did, pissed away billions of US dollars in terms of weapons and resources, killed and injured thousands of people, and left Iran bruised but with a younger leadership group who is likely more emboldened by the fact that they are seeing in real time how easily they can force the world to pay attention by shutting down the straight and forcing even the US to consider them. It's been an abject failure for any of the 4 random reasons they claimed the war was meant to address, and people around the world are paying for the idiocy.

Academic-Increase951 May 6, 2026 +13
A long term strategy for Iranian will likely to maintain ability to hold the straight hostage. Continue to mass produce drones and missile capable of closing the straight at will. They have proven they can do it, and they have proven they can hold the world ransom. Thats much more effective than nuclear weapons. Because they cant actually use nuclear weapons without ending the world. It's a bluff. The moment someone call you on it then what then. It's likely better for Iran to stay within 90% of developing nuclear weapons because then it's something they can negotiate with. Atleast until pipelines are built to avoid the straight entirely.

Some exist and can be expanded but the truth is that Oil is a liability now and renewables are going to accellerate to displace its importance. As well as that drones can be used to severely impair oil infrastucture in the ME just like how Ukraine is repaying the Vatniks with kinetic sanctions. The threat will remain though likely Ukraine will help train ME forces in drone warfare to counter future attacks.

UltracrepidarianPhD May 6, 2026 +2
I think they will wait until November 4th to start bombing again.

I want you to be wrong, but you’re probably not.
1
GK0NATO May 6, 2026 -5
>Israel will bomb them again Are we just ignoring that Iran has been bombing the UAE the entire time during this "ceasefire"?
-5
Drspaceman1717 May 6, 2026 +9
Yes, FOX News will ignore it because it doesn’t fit their narrative. Hegseth will ignore it because it shows Iran is capable of hitting back. Trump will ignore it because gas prices will cost him the midterms.
9
Sherool May 6, 2026 +3
The US appears to not consider that a big deal so I guess yes. >**U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated on Tuesday that a fragile ceasefire with Iran remains intact, even as the United Arab Emirates (UAE) reported a second consecutive day of missile and drone strikes targeting its territory.** [https://www.businesstimes-bd.com/international/middle-east/6448](https://www.businesstimes-bd.com/international/middle-east/6448)

He is trying hard to achieve something to present it as a big W to the world

Fywq May 6, 2026 +6
Rumor ([U.S. and Iran closing in on one-page memo to end war, officials say](https://archive.ph/6DkGF)) says it allows Iran to have civilian nuclear use and remove sanctions in return for an opening of Hormuz. If that's true I suppose it's slightly better if they commit to not do enrichment, but on the other hand lifting sanctions and releasing frozen funds would help the regime consolidate their power further I guess? Israel can't be happy about Iran being able to rearm with conventional weapons through a stronger and less sanctioned economy. * Among other provisions, the deal would involve Iran committing to a moratorium on nuclear enrichment, the U.S. agreeing to lift its sanctions and release billions in frozen Iranian funds, and both sides lifting restrictions around transit through the Strait of Hormuz.
6
CaptPants May 6, 2026 +9
I assume they'll stick to their word as much as they will trust Trump will stick to his words. Unfortunately, If he's proven anything over his time in power, is that no foreign country should trust him to keep his word EVER.
9
Fywq May 6, 2026 +2
Absolutely.
2
itsatumbleweed May 6, 2026 +6
That's basically the JCPOA lol
6
rhino369 May 6, 2026 +2
No enrichment is better than JCPOA. But no sanctions is a win for Iran.  It’s not clear Iran would even accept no enrichment though.
2
Illustrious-Job-6390 May 6, 2026 +4
Ah so you mean the same deal that Obama made but worse because of no oversight by a third party to check for nuclear enrichment.
4
Fywq May 6, 2026 +2
Pretty much
2
mostdope28 May 6, 2026 +1
I can’t wait to see how trump bombs Iran after this “deal”
1
gruese May 6, 2026 +1
Trump is a FIFA Peace Price laureate, which is way better than the Nobel that Obama got, so obviously Trump will get the better Iran deal too! Since he did so well sending his warships and warfighters to commit war crimes, he must know a lot about war and peace, so he is obviously the best at making peace deals.
1
Bobcat-Stock May 6, 2026 +1
War crimes and peace crimes
1
Grow_away_420 May 6, 2026 +1
If anything comes out of this it would likely be a pinky promise to halt enrichment till 2030 or so with zero or token effort to enforce it. Make it a future presidents problem.

Yeah Axios keeps reporting the same nonsense over and over, citing mysterious insider sources it claims to have, and it keeps amounting to nothing but the gullible keep falling for it and giving them clicks - https://www.axios.com/2026/04/15/iran-war-negotiations-deal-pakistan Above is from literally the SAME Axios writer as this new article.
34
Elbit_Curt_Sedni May 6, 2026 +8
Basically, they're in on the stock manipulation pumps.
8
BendicantMias May 6, 2026 +2
They don't need to be. The media has always been chasing the coveted 'Breaking News!' or 'Exclusive!' title. You don't need a new business model to incentivize this when the old one does it anyway.
2
Affectionate-Act6127 May 6, 2026 +3
https://www.axios.com/authors/barak_ravid Just read the headlines it’s a bipolar roller coaster of peace and war.

2
TLOC81 May 6, 2026 +1
It’ll just be Trump signing some executive order declaring it to the world
1
goodreverenddoc2 May 6, 2026 +34
one page ceasefire agreement at best lmao
34
Yelworc0242 May 6, 2026 +32
The last agreement took over two years to negotiate and was highly detailed. This will not be worth the paper it is printed on.
32
sportsDude May 6, 2026 +2
More holes than Swiss cheese this will have. But Trump will say it’s a victory because it has his name on it. Regardless of the fact that it’s less detailed than prior deal, cost US military lives, cost US stockpiles, and accomplishes nothing. Like seriously, for a guy and administration who says the Iran program was obliterated, why need a nuclear deal?
2
Jkabaseball May 6, 2026 +31
Both sides agree to discuss framework for a possible nuclear disarmament. Iran gets all their frozen money, and the strait opens. Doesn't sound better in any way compared to the old agreements.
31
Emotional-Dress8619 May 6, 2026 +18
why would iran agree to disarming nukes tho ? now they know they need one
18
Brief_Hospital_1766 May 6, 2026 +8
Because they can do it in secret regardless of the agreement, and they get ALL of their money back plus sanctions relief.
8
rabidstoat May 6, 2026 +2
Will they be shipping pallets of cash?
2
CroGamer002 May 6, 2026 +4
You can't build a nuclear weapon in secret, it is literally impossible as long as satellites exist.
4
Jkabaseball May 6, 2026 +2
All their stuff is pretty much underground. Thats if they dont run to Russia and speed run development or juat buy them.
2
lonigus May 6, 2026 +1
Even if its underground no entrance to any tunnel or bunker could be hidden from satelites. Especially not from US ones. Who knows what technologies they use now with help from AI. Precise enough to read a cars license plate from space lol.
1
CroGamer002 May 6, 2026
You can't hide enriching uranium, it's impossible no matter how deep is your bunker.
0
drunkenbrawler May 6, 2026
I'm not an expert at all, but why would they need to have UN inspectors if it cannot be done covertly?
0
Emotional-Dress8619 May 6, 2026 +2
would trump not make the deal include iaea inspections
2
xSaRgED May 6, 2026 +13
Trump doesn’t know what the IAEA is or what they do.
13
JPMoney81 May 6, 2026 +4
Trump can't spell IAEA. Happy Cake Day by the way.
4
lonigus May 6, 2026 +2
Iran was by far the most inspected and controlled country by the IAEA till Trump torn the deal apart lol. Fact is tho, that nobody was stopping Iran to build more Nuclear power plants if they would buy the nuclear fuel like most other countries.
2
Jkabaseball May 6, 2026 +1
They agreed to talk about framework. The chances of it getting to the point again that they willingly stop working on nuclear weapons is next to none.
1
adhq May 6, 2026 +1
Actually, they just discovered that they don't even need nukes
1
Emotional-Dress8619 May 6, 2026 +1
nope they do
1
rhino369 May 6, 2026 +1
They have to worry that the US will continue to prevent them from developing them anyway.  There are downsides to having nukes too. Nuclear powers don’t shoot missiles at each other because it’s impossible to tell what’s in the warhead.
1
Emotional-Dress8619 May 6, 2026 +1
they have the resources just need a test
1
Razolus May 6, 2026 +4
Isn't that exactly what Obama did?
4
nanopicofared May 6, 2026 +8
except Iran's money was still frozen
8
nowheyjose1982 May 6, 2026 +2
So Iran wins the war?
2
fluffysnowflake67 May 6, 2026
The war won’t be over until both nations are smoldering from nuclear bombs. Hope it isn’t in my lifetime. You don’t blow up a leader’s mom and sister right in front of him and not expect eventual retaliation.
0
hurdurnotavailable May 6, 2026 +1
That leader is most likely a vegetable. And the people hate him, so sooner or later they'll turn him into soup.
1
fluffysnowflake67 May 6, 2026 +1
Yes, we are all waiting desperately for the two years to go by more quickly.
1
Emotional-Dress8619 May 6, 2026 +1
yep
1
Jkabaseball May 6, 2026 +1
They only got a fraction of their frozen money. There was a disarmament agreement with lots of inspections. Whether it wouls be effective or not, idk.
1
Brief_Hospital_1766 May 6, 2026 +23
So, Trump is doing the exact thing Republicans had fits about Obama doing in releasing frozen funds. Although it sounds like he's releasing a lot more. So much winning! 🤣
23
xmuskorx May 6, 2026 -3
if we are to take the deal at face value (which I don't as I don't trust both side) it has FULL MORATORIUM on enrichment. which is not something Obama deal had (Iran would have been allowed to keep fuel and to keep enriching it under that deal).
-3
Drop_the_mik3 May 6, 2026 +4
You can’t have a soup to nuts civilian purpose nuclear program without enrichment. A level of enrichment needs to occur to get enough fissionable material concentration to work in a plant.
4
xmuskorx May 6, 2026 +2
you can buy fuel from 3rd parties.
2
Drop_the_mik3 May 6, 2026 +1
Guess “soup to nuts” doesn’t mean anything nowadays
1
xmuskorx May 6, 2026 +2
Ok? So I guess they will have to limit themselves to not being "soup to nuts"? What about it?
2
BendicantMias May 6, 2026 +7
Never mind trusting both sides, you shouldn't be trusting the messenger itself. Axios keeps reporting the same nonsense over and over, citing mysterious insider sources it claims to have, and it keeps amounting to nothing but the gullible keep falling for it and giving them clicks - https://www.axios.com/2026/04/15/iran-war-negotiations-deal-pakistan Above is from literally the SAME Axios writer as this new article.
7
Brief_Hospital_1766 May 6, 2026 +6
The 'inside source' is Trump himself. He spends his entire day calling different reporters, giving them information in an attempt to shape the narrative about anything he wants. Axios keeps reporting the same nonsense, because it's coming from the same nonsensical source: Trump.
6

2
LingonberryNo3548 May 6, 2026 +9
Lifting sanctions, end to the blockade, return of frozen funds and all Iran has to do is say they won’t make nukes. Jesus, if this is true then Iran has clearly defeated America and is a better long term than they were before this started.
9
sportsDude May 6, 2026 +1
Don’t forget the draining of US stockpiles of weapons that can’t be replaced anytime soon
1
lonigus May 6, 2026 +1
Well if nothing else we will get meme material and Jimmy Kimmel content to joke about for the next years to come lol.
1
bipolarbear326 May 6, 2026 +3
Oh look, it's time to pump the market again
3
Any-Interaction6066 May 6, 2026 +4
Same a****** who keeps publishing these articles for Axios, who's been wrong every time. Oil getting too high? White House : Barak we need a story for the algos that are trading so that it brings the price down! Barak: Say no more. Make sure the money is in the account in 5 minutes, and I got you fam! Market algos react to the only published article stating a blatant lie. Rinse, repeat. Not fishy in the slightest...
4
Azatis- May 6, 2026 +2
TACO wins! There is no way for the U.S. to get what it wants out of this. Compromises are coming, and they will be significant. How Trump will present those as a big win is something I am waiting to see.
2
FuguSandwich May 6, 2026 +3
One page memorandum, lol. It probably just says "stop bombing us and we'll stop bombing US bases in the region, end your blockade of the strait and we'll end ours". Basically a return to the way things were on February 26. And of course Trump will hail this as a major victory, the likes of which have never been seen before. "For the first time ever, the Strait is open, I alone was able to achieve this."
3
Zhelthan May 6, 2026 +2
“We will make a deal which is worse then the previous deal and now Iran will highly likely develop nuclear weapon in secret since I gave them a real reason to do so, but it’s a big Win “
2
Yuukiko_ May 6, 2026 +2
Who would even trust the US to keep their word at this point, or that they'd just keep funding Israel to attack them
2
lonigus May 6, 2026 +2
This must be a simulation on some reality TV of some alien race...
2
Zashkarn May 6, 2026 +2
Sounds like the spin will be the US leaves but gets some nuclear talks (which they had before the war) while Iran rushes to build a bomb to avoid it from happening again
2
Kursiel May 6, 2026 +2
And all it took was 40 billion, disruption of the world markets, insulting all we previously called allies, and countless millions in increased costs for American citizens.
2
BostonSucksatHockey May 6, 2026 +2
>The White House is preparing a memorandum on ending the war and limiting Iran's nuclear program. So no, they aren't close to a one page deal to end the war. Trump is going to (again) unilaterally declare the war over even while Tehran keeps attacking ships and other countries. And Iran isn't going to agree to shit.
2
nediamnori May 6, 2026 +2
I don't know if this is a good or bad news. With this war at least it kept Trump occupied. What will he do will all that free time now, I dread to think.
2
LewisKIII May 6, 2026 +2
So what does the deal say, war is over, Iran gets to charge tolls on Hormuz? Thank you for your attention to this matter. This makes no sense whatsoever! Why would Iran up and open Hormuz again when they have said they will be controlling it now and Trump said he won't sign anything unless it involves Nuclear weapons agreements and this article says that will be negotiated later. This just seems like more lies from this same reporter Trump calls to pump the market!
2
runsonpedals May 6, 2026 +2
Sure they are.
2
Hefty_Landscape_2622 May 6, 2026 +2
Iran scored a massive win, and Trump just handed America a pathetic defeat. There’s no other explanation for it. Two more months of this and he’ll be giving away beachfront property in Miami. Absolute disaster.

So the war that was never a war, but was definitely over at 60 days, except when it wasn't... Now it's back to a war again that is on and going to be closed with a memorandum. I can't believe this is the United States I live in. I will never forgive all the the white trash racist morons who, in spite of their obvious ignorance, thought they knew how the world worked and put this clown shoe of an administration into power. (I'm allowed to say that I'm white)

Likely just the next round of market manipulation, which the US public is perfectly happy with. If not why would they vote trump into office twice?
