Right? I'm 41 and have never worried about the draft due to a number of physical issues I have. Now I worry that if it gets to that point they'll not only raise the age, but not care about the fact that my bones and joints would totally fall apart before I even got through basic training.

Both of these were already routine waivers, have been for years, just eliminating the paperwork shuffle involved. Also if you read the article the policy only changes for those with a *single* conviction for marijuana. More than one is still a waiver, and harder to get. This is being spun as a way to bring in late career people with marketable skills in technical fields, but I’m skeptical. Not unless it comes with a guaranteed ETP to get out of the barracks. Ain’t no way my 40-year-old ass would be willing to deal with barracks nonsense just because I’m unmarried. Obviously for those able to come in direct to officer or warrant it may make sense.

Yep, In 2006 I was in basic with a 40 year old dude with a waiver. We joked with him a lot and he was a good sport….now that I’m almost 40 myself I really respect how tough he was to get through it

We did a few particularly long runs in OSUT and I remember the drills swinging us back close-ish to the barracks and just subtly tapping our two oldsters out. Both guys were absolutely fine on PT for their age bracket. Drills had no desire to break them by running them 12 miles. I doubt either dude would have fallen out on their own, but yeah neither dude argued. And at that age now…I wouldn’t either!

I did deck hockey for a little while after high school. Not a lot just every 5 years or so someone would get around to wanting to join a fun league. Around 35 was the last one. One drunk night at the bar on of us got antsy and was like “c’mon 1 more time boys”. We tried, but with 7 guys and everyone getting winded after a minute and a half of play, it got ugly. So I see this article, and immediately I am reminded of that. Peptides don’t cure everything.
