"The blockade will be enforced impartially against vessels of all nations entering or departing Iranian ports and coastal areas, including all Iranian ports on the Arabian Gulf and Gulf of Oman. CENTCOM forces will not impede freedom of navigation for vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz to and from non-Iranian ports." - U.S. Central Command.

**Always two weeks.** It's the perfect time period for something you're expected to do but haven't done shit on yet -- short enough that people think they can keep track of it but far enough away that they're likely to be distracted when the deadline arrives. Then *everything will be solved two weeks from now* all over again. Once you hear it from him, you can't un-hear it.

This is *completely ridiculous*. This is where our country is right now, AND this is how ALL of his staff treats him, I am not exaggerating. They never say no to his stupid, crazy, *shitbrained* ideas. He's going to **bankrupt** America. The Government is 'insolvent'. Running the country 'like a business' was quite successful for about 0.1% of the best hoarders of wealth that the parasitic class has ever had. People are willingly selling out OUR government so they can hoard even more than they will possibly ever need. The *best* hoarders ever. He's going to bankrupt the entire country. Fellow Americans, **whyyyy‽**

Yes. The plan is to stare and hope they blink. If they don’t, at best major diplomatic incident where the United States Navy acting as pirates detained a Chinese Vessel. There is no modern precedent, a world superpower has never actively been this aimlessly belligerent toward the general world and its own allies.

Renegade_Hat 6 days ago +27
Yeah, but that was part of a broader effort to undermine the Iranian government in response to Mossaddegh nationalizing oil. As fucked up as it was that the West overthrew him to put in a puppet to protect their oil interests, there was a coherent plan (protecting Western and more specifically British interests) Juxtapose that to now. The United States is alone, working in direct opposition to both the broader global order and its own interest. Seemingly without any plan other than a demented old man’s rambling. Not great lol Edit - Also, we attacked during negotiations that we had basically gotten all of our demands given into. Good luck getting back to any deal favoring the US when Iran has been threatened with genocide, while showing they’re capable of exerting dire pressure on the world
27
Candymanshook 6 days ago +255
The US putting an embargo on Japan’s oil supply indirectly was the match that struck the Pacific war - the threat to their ability to stock their oil reserves led to Pearl Harbor. This embargo along with US intervention in Venezuela has a similar effect on China’s energy supply - a huge % of their imports flow through Hormuz. Make of that what you will.
255
0x476c6f776965 6 days ago +72
Are the Chinese dumb enough to do a pearl harbor type of attack? No. They’re smart and patient. They don’t have that death before dishonor samurai culture that commissioned officers in Japan’s army had. Also the UAE, Saudi Arabia can supply oil to China through their other ports, and also all Arabian gulf countries are allowed to export to China, it’s Iran that’s blocking them, not the US.
72
LubberwortPicaroon 6 days ago +79
No, but China will view this as a threat to their oil supply. They may well respond will a halt to all rare earth exports except a limited set of friendly countries, they have done that before for leverage, it would not be a surprise if they did so this time as well. China also has a long term ambition to take Taiwan, if they can supply weapons to Iran which leads to Iran sinking a US warship that'll force America to commit more resources to Iran, possibly a land invasion. That's excellent news for Chinese military planners.

Settra_Rulez 6 days ago +31
Ships originating from or stopping at Iranian ports will be subject to the blockade. Separately it’s been said that ships paying the Iranian transit fee will also be subject to it. So ships originating from Arab ports that don’t stop at Iranian ports or pay the toll won’t be affected by the US blockade.

> The U.S. blockade, which was set to begin at 10 a.m. ET on Monday, applies to “any and all Ships trying to enter, or leave, the Strait of Hormuz,” Trump said. > The U.S. Central Command later added the caveat that American forces “will not impede freedom of navigation for vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz to and from non-Iranian ports.” So Centcom and the President are directly contradicting each other. Totally normal.

Now ships will make a courtesy stop in Dubai before leaving so they can say "we totally aren't transiting from an Iranian port!"
301
bliss19 6 days ago +42
If only it was that easy. Any access to Iran ports is considered against the blockade
42
YourMemeExpert 6 days ago +133
The top brass know what a clusterfuck a full blockade would be. They're probably gonna park some Navy ships by the strait to satisfy Trump without actually impeding traffic. Reminds me of the military parade he wanted for his birthday, so the Army just said "ok Mr. President, whatever you say" and had a couple guys stroll down the street with a few old tanks. Addendum: The highest-ranking officials in the armed forces have not been playing nice with the president, it's why Kegseth has been trying to replace or fire them. As of now, the military isn't completely at his service.

Heritage had a Moscow office at the start of restructuring, and founder Ed Feulner met with the reformist PM and other leadership. The organization of Project 2025 was at the foundations of Russia's restructuring. Putin came in on the popularity against such western meddling, but you have to believe Putin's patriotism over desire for power. Russia still officially worked with Hertiage's Cambridge Analytica (often attributed to Steve Bannon, rather than his Mercer family handlers that officially joined Heritage in 2014) to influence and destabilize right along Hertiage's own goals as well. They're probably longtime bedfellows even if they don't seem like it.

155
tnstaafsb 6 days ago +61
Which of course is nonsense when we're already running a $2 trillion annual deficit, most of which can be directly tied to repeated tax cuts for the wealthy. Republicans only care about spending when it comes to programs they don't like, meaning programs that help ordinary people instead of billionaires. They'll happily spend unlimited funds on the military and drive the deficit ever higher with more and more tax cuts for their billionaire benefactors, but a dime spent on the poor or middle class is a dime too much.

11

Well it means they are blocking all the ships the iranians were letting through, including iranian ships. I.e., turning off the cash spigots for iran. It also means that global oil prices will continue to rise and it means trump still has no idea what to do when this, too, fails to change iran’s stance. Oh and it will mean the ships get attacked with new missiles from russia or china.
348

Trump believes this blockade will allow them to collect the fees Iran was collecting. It's not how it does or will work but literally his only focus is personally monetizing this dumpster fire he's created. Arguably, this is just further exacerbating the issue. Is the US really going to stop/seize/attack a Chinese or Indian flagged ship in the strait and hold it for ransom? More likely they'll just be seizing Iranian vessels but I'm sure Iran, India, China, and Russia will find a way to circumvent that.

Dude literally promised to end all wars on day one, lower the price of everything, deliver more jobs than ever before and make everyone richer than they’ve ever dreamed of. Instead he just gave everyone a giant golden shower and they’re all complimenting his aim and asking if they can donate more money to make him feel better. Tough guys who aren’t afraid to tell it like it is and aren’t afraid of the woke police saying “of course I love his administration and most of what he’s doing, but I don’t know about this…. Yup, if there is one truth Trump could say that I would applaud, it would be, "I am the best con man in the history of the world!" Because he is. China is invested in the situation not escalating further and has ZERO reason to directly entangle themselves.
42
randomrreeddddiitt 6 days ago +30
Or China can wait it out a bit. China is very dependent on middle eastern oil, but not as much as its neighbors in Asia, and is not in immediate need of it. It would be wise for China to refrain from doing anything for a few weeks or a couple of months, as pressure becomes too much to bear for the rest of Asia, and therefore the rest of the world. Pressure on the US would come from all corners of the globe, forcing Trump to continue and alienating everyone, or...back down. In the meantime, the price per barrel of oil will go to $150? $200?

Who's the first captain that's gonna sail their 15km/hour floating bomb through this mess.

It’s going to have to be China. The Russian boats are all sanctioned so they can be seized regardless and no one else has enough ass to risk it, except for India who really doesn’t want to be on the outs with the west if this gets kinetic globally.

2 weeks to slow the blockade

Ok-Price7882 6 days ago +36
So, help me out with this, cuz I'm sure I'm getting some of this wrong: To start, there was no blockade. We bombed Iran. Then Iran blocked the strait in retaliation. Now we're blocking the blockade, in retaliation. So now we're going to bomb the ships doing the blockading so we can have our own blockade instead. And there never needed to be a blockade to begin with. ???

I reckon if Iran renamed the Strait of Hormuz to the Strait of Trump this could well all be over as his ego would be so inflated.

So.... just to recap: the strait was open a few weeks ago and now it's being blockaded by TWO countries. This is pure genius.

So Trump wants our allies to open the Strait, right? The one he’s blockading?
23
Rob1965 6 days ago +12
No, Trump now wants the allies that refused to help him open the strait, and that he told “we don’t need your help”, to help him keep the strait closed.  Oh, and they are still refusing to help. (I expect he will tell them he doesn’t need their help tomorrow.) Keep up!
12
restore_democracy 6 days ago +6
What if he can get half of them to try to keep it open and half to try to keep it closed and see who wins? And he can be on both sides.

They are 100% going for the financial enforcement, that is, insurance companies removing coverage (which effectively prevents ships from moving around and reaching ports). Except China has been building a parallel insurance infrastructure, so they don't care about Lloyd's and they don't need Western banks to process the transaction in dollars. If China decides a VLCC full of crude is sailing through that strait regardless of what the US Navy says, good f****** luck trying to stop a supertanker that requires kilometers to steer. It either goes through (and the blockade is exposed as unenforceable against anyone who matters 🤡) or a destroyer gets ordered to fire warning shots at it and now a nuclear power has the right to defend itself.

To all the Americans who elected this sorry excuse of an Orangutan and is doing nothing to him accountable for touching children and bankrupting economies: F- YOU AND YOUR FUTURE GENERATIONS! What this citrus-colored raisin is doing to the world will make the United States the sick man of the future for the years ahead. Your country's image is ruined.  Your diplomacy ruined. Your reliability as an ally is questionable at best. I thought that United States is the Land of the Free, but it turns out the only thing that is "free" about United States is "FREE to be on the wrong side of history". Our country's on the opposite side of the world and we have to cope with what your tanned clown in the Oval Office whims every time NYSE opens up. This is getting tiresome.

For those keeping track: \-We don't need this Obama deal with Iran tear it up; and be hard on Iran. \-We're being hard on Iran so they don't get the nukes they wouldn't have gotten in the first place; but which we made them want to have even more than they did before. \-We don't care if they're going to close the strait, we're going to bomb them anyway because...Israel. Also corruption and grift. And vibes. American Vibes. The Best vibes. \-We're going to war to open the strait; which had already been open and working fine before we fucked things up, and Israel. And vibes. \-We're blockading the strait which we wanted open, which was open before but is now closed; because of us. Twice over, because of us; oh and also, Israel. \-Also, if you're keeping track and criticizing us, you're unpatriotic and anti-Semitic. Vibes.
