This is completely performative, just like the moves to open Alaska wild life areas to oil drilling.
It is far, far cheaper to expand fracking wells on land to increase production than build new complex off shore projects (or remote Alaskan wells).

Half the battle of dealing with the current administration is figuring out what is obnoxious bluster and posturing vs what is actually dangerous. They “flood the zone” intentionally to distract from what they’re really doing.
In this case, they started a war that’s destroying the global economy. Getting Dems to cry about sea turtles instead of focusing on the real issue (war and economy) is the goal.
