~~US forces ready to restart combat if Iran doesn't agree deal, says Hegseth~~ **Trump admin ready to make the situation worse for the entire world if they don't get their way** FTFY insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results

Its not so much of a threat as a save face. Iran wins by US escalating quicker and they are prepared to hit a US ship in blockade to make that happen. Iran will force US to send ground troops but US needs it to look like their decision.
0
FullMetalAurochs 3 days ago +5
You’re saying Iran wants a ground invasion?
5
hikealot 3 days ago +12
Not the GP, but they might... The US has the disadvantage of being the best at the old way of war and drones are a disruptive innovation. An ground assault might very well be a gift to them, if they've properly prepared. FPV drones are c**** and when deployed in significant numbers, change how everything works. In Ukraine, they talk about a drone line and grey zone, not about a contact line. Everything in the grey zone dies, if it is out of hiding for too long. If are the defender you've acquired enough of them and trained pilots, you can make any landing area a hellish grey zone. Russia has been losing 1500 men (casualties, killed and wounded) per day for minimal, if any gains. Ukraine has had some recent success in pushing forward by using drone centric assaults; saturating an area with drones. This relies on the US military having NOT fully learned the lessons of the Ukraine war. Given how Ukraine's unmanned systems people have dogwalked NATO troops in recent exercises, NATO - or at least European NATO - is kind of in freakout mode about being out of date. It is not out of the question that under Hegseth, the pentagon may be willingly not learning from Ukraine. So unlike the rest of NATO, the US may be out of date here, but not yet fully grasped it. If this is true and if Iran is an apt student of what Russia's unmanned systems operators can teach them, then the Marines may be in for the Gallipoli of the drone era. This relies on a chain of assumptions and the Marines may be more drone savvy than they let on, but if I were an Iranian strategist, I might be willing to take that bet. If I were an American commander, I would be very cautious about any ground action.
12
tattlerat 3 days ago +9
Wel, that and Iran is hellish country to invade. Arid mountains, narrow passes, and no neighbours to build up and stage an assault from. It’s a land filled with natural defensive barriers that would cause great issue for even the best ground forces in the world. Plus Iran is savvy with drone warfare adding to the complexity. It’s not as simple has swinging a hammer at the enemy. America would very likely win in the end but at costs, both human and financial, that are far higher than the American public are willing to accept.

Also the US has a track record of not winning these things. Vietnam, Afghanistan, Gulf Wars. The US hasn't won much at all since WW2. Even korea is just a really long ceasefire, not a victory.
8
Jealous_Response_492 3 days ago +2
To be fair US led ISAF coalition forces did secure Afghanistan, who's people had 17 years of relative peace and stability with very few forces ensuring that peace, upto and until the first Trump admin surrendered those Afghanis to the Taliban, and withdrew US personnel, leaving their allies with little choice but to also withdrawal.
2

In what way did the US lose the first gulf war?
1
MomsAreola 3 days ago +11
Yes. The markets are not responding the way they should be to a global energy crisis. They are holding out that Trump will take a quick easy win and move onto Cuba. Ground invasion absolutely spikes the market and that is the only offensive they have against Trump. Also, as much as you might hate your current regime, the Americans have just bombed a generation of your children as well as your economic future after ripping up their own "peace" agreement for what reason? Easier to kill Americans and run propaganda if they are now infiltrating your homeland.
11
Diestormlie 3 days ago +4
Dunno if they are, but I'd agree with it. Well, the softer claim that Iran sees an American ground invasion as a viable path to Iranian victory. Iran lacks the power projection to meaningfully threaten the USA. So this war ends when the USA decides to let it end. The military disparity means that the only way for Iran to end the war on terms it prefers is via attacking American political will, rather than military capability. Americans in body bags are great for that. A ground invasion just brings the GIs to them.

7
gravybang 2 days ago +5
Here is what the deal will be: The same as the JCPOA with a slightly longer sunset clause, the US pays reparations for damage to civilian infrastructure, gradual benchmarked sanctions relief. And whatever side deals Kushner makes for the Trump family, of course. It will be a worse deal than the JCPOA, and Trump will yell at anyone for being a fatty reporter from a failing news org for pointing that out.

U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said American forces in the Middle East are ready to restart combat operations if Iran does not agree to a deal. He said U.S. forces remain positioned to act and warned of consequences if Iran refuses. He also said the U.S. is enforcing a blockade targeting ships linked to Iran, with military officials stating vessels could be intercepted and force used if they do not comply.

MAGA is part of the problem, but the purity tests and the lack of strategic thinking are also killing us electorally. Maybe progressives will actually show up in large numbers in primaries now to help change things, I am finally seeing some signs of it, but that's been like pulling teeth for a decade now. You could not find a more ineffective voting base if you tried from 2014-2024.

I really hope he is checking calendars. Trump wants to invade Cuba next, if we fight Iran again that’s just going to mess all the dates up. Then that pushes back the invasion of Greenland, and Mexico will be pushed into next Fiscal Year. This is wholly unacceptable to the shareholders. I suggest a group calendar to streamline things.

Ah I see the problem! Hegseth does not actually understand what a "negotiation" is. See, when you tell somebody you will attack them if they do not do what you want, that, is a THREAT. That is not negotiation. What did they want IRAN to do again? After destroying their nuclear enrichment capabilities, you had to go back and... what? Expand the borders of cancerous nationalism into Lebanon to their detriment? Democratic choice: FAFO.

Any reporting on if terms of the deal have changed at all from either side? Because I really don't think Iran is hurting as badly from this as the US and global economy are with oil shortages, despite the markets convincing themselved we've somehow already gone back to full productive capacity even though we are still in shortage and draining strategic reserves to alleviate supply shortages and oil still hovers above $90 futures and higher for physical barrels. https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/markets/133-vs-99-what-is-the-real-price-for-a-barrel-of-oil/ar-AA20QhFs
7
Merlins_Bread 2 days ago +6
Iran is hurting plenty, but their capacity to withstand pain is far greater than a distractable leadership with midterms coming up. They also have no other option than to push for a serious security settlement, because the last two times they negotiated quietly, the US just killed everyone mid-chat. Why would they take any deal that doesn't withdraw US forces from the region? They would rightly expect to just be killed again.

That headline should simply read that Heggies has been edging ALL WEEK and has to see some more children blown to bits so he can get off again this weekend. Edit: OK I’ll add some more nuance to this. There is a lot of stuff going on under the hood. There is a major showdown on Capitol Hill this weekend over what we are doing. There was a regulation which is actually allowing Iran to profit massively off the current situation. The paper price of oil is $100, while the actual price on ships is $130 or more. They’re basically giving that spread to Iran. So Iran is profiting massively while we are attacking them. There’s a showdown on Capitol Hill on Sunday regarding this, and nearly a veto proof majority to kill this that the real price of oil will finally be reflected on the stock market starting Monday. it’s going to be a bloodbath if that happens, but the bloodbath has to happen sometime and politicians are getting extremely nervous about the midterm elections. Anyway, there was a lot of wild stuff happening on Capitol Hill, and I urge anybody to read up on it

Trump is just mad a black man brokered a better deal than anything he’d ever be able to broker. So he nixed the deal in 2018. The goal now is to get back to the way things were when we had the Iran Nuclear Deal in place…and they’ll call it a victory. Trump it’s mad a black plumber fixed the clogged toilet, so he destroyed the entire toilet (and the bathroom), blamed the black plumber, and then he’ll install a new toilet that won’t work very well but he’ll say it’s better than what that black plumber did.

Let's figure out how this would play out. To start, this has never happened in the history of this country where a nationwide protest using weapons has defeated the US military. If the Confederates couldn't do it with those weapons, neither could random people now when the US military exists. Let's say that people start organizing. Well you have numerous anti-privacy measures that are monitoring for these things and they tend to take action more against left-leaning organizations which this would be considered. You can't really organize then since you won't have enough people using random technology (presuming even that's not compromised) and get weapons and equipment together. But let's say this happens. Would you need to really rally everywhere to take over? Not really, you'd probably just need to take over DC and get the President and his top people. Now you need to have a metric ton of people - millions - who are all armed and get them all to DC without being monitored. Maybe use the guise of a protest. Are you going to get millions of people who all have unregistered guns to go to DC? OK let's say this happens. Now you're in DC and you're heading towards the White House. Let's presume that Trump, Vance, and the others are all there. We need to also presume that there's no escape helicopter or some other ways (ex: underground) exist where they can simply escape. Since if they escape then this defeats the attack, right? OK so they're trapped. DC has 6 military bases, Maryland has 4, New York has 5, New Jersey has 2, Virginia has 12. Emergency powers would be activated before the first bullet was fired and you'll have not only police, National Guard, but military people from 29 military bases who are all nearby converging on the location. Also jets exist. F-35 exists and has a top speed of 1,200 miles per hour. That's a half hour flight from Chicago to DC and about an hour flight from Austin, Texas. Presuming national emergency, lots of military airplanes will be immediately scrambled from half the country and converge on DC. I don't think these protesters will have anti-jet capabilities that they could sneak in. Tanks exist too. No anti-tank weapons will be available and don't forget that every single minute all these people are held at bay will mean more reinforcements and time to escape. Tactically, the more people you have in one group, the more people will get killed by every bullet fired by those defending the city. Every grenade will take out dozens of people and this also assumes we'll have military leaders managing this whole thing which we likely won't. All coups happened because of at least one of these two reasons: * the military was involved in the coup, and/or * the military did nothing to stop the coup Let's look at January 6th. If those protesters were armed and left wing, we'd have hundreds dead. The reasons why the literal big guns weren't brought to bear is because certain key people wanted this to happen. I can bet that the current regime has been continuing their policy in the first term of hollowing out the military by retiring or outright firing the old guard and getting "their" people in. So the odds of enough of the military standing down are low if they're led by those with personal loyalty to Trump and the typical soldier following orders because they're too young to know anything and that's assuming they don't even support Trump. Considering how many of them voted for him, having a coup is something that was looked up and they have plans. If there's any actual plan for anything related to Trump, it's to make sure he doesn't face any consequences and this has been apparent since the first term and it's definitely gotten worse now considering the infiltration of the judiciary. Can this happen as far as numerous Americans using 2A to storm the castle gates, so to speak? Yes. They'll all be killed with the wounded arrested. If the Confederates couldn't do it when we barely had a functioning military when the Confederates had more military experience then nobody can do it now. There's also plenty of precedence where the US killed left-wing protesters a lot more than right-wing ones (ex: Kent State). We're also not the French. The French know how to protest. We're more worried about our next paychecks. We've been squeezed too hard for too long and we don't have the energy to fight.
10

4
SsurebreC 3 days ago +6
> ~70 million ppl couldn't bother to vote against Trump Lots of them live in heavily populated areas that always go to Democrats anyway. If you live in a swing state, you should vote. If you don't live in one then your vote doesn't matter in Presidential elections. It just pads the Electoral College which doesn't matter. Look at the last 26 years of Presidential elections for evidence. If you live in NY or CA then voting for the President doesn't matter if you were going to vote for a Democrat. Voting then mostly matters for other levels of government but this blame going towards those who didn't vote is silly. Lots of them live in states that were already carried by whatever Democrat would be running as President. Now if you're in Texas and you want to vote for Democrat then you should absolutely do it but Texas is the exception here. Otherwise it's the handful of mostly irrelevant states that decide elections.

Pretty easy to get into another battle when sitting in an office. Shame all that money would have helped so many or just invested in its citizen development.

Putzy’s getting removed from office soon; he should be focusing on figuring out how to avoid spending the rest of his murderous life in supermax.

Tbh they didn't seem like they were having a very good war to this point. Seems like a bad deal.

Buddy, you lost. It didn't work as you planned. Cope faster and stop meddling with international affairs. You aren't competent enough to handle your own country. Sit the F*** DOWN already

I don't think anyone needs to waste too much energy on this. For 1, this was always the case. And for 2, this is simply posturing. Iran is saying the same things. It's trying to sound hard to the public while quietly they're looking for a deal.

I think their plan has always been to invade.

This was predicted at the beginning of the cease fire by lots of former military and intelligence analysts. That is was only to rearm before the fighting starts back up.

Wish they would just eff right off, we want leaders who want to make our lives better, not f*ck everything up for everybody day after day and make it harder and harder to exist. What is wrong with them? Why is this so difficult for them to understand for the love of God !

Why? What is the advantage of attacking Iran now? The blockade gives the US tons of leverage over Iran and China, and is the best way to end the conflict without violence. All they need to do is keep up the blockade until China and Iran concede.

Yeah we know. The blockade was just an excuse to get ships closer to Iran's shore for an invasion.
