Yeah but they can't refuse that order, unless it's illegal, which it is not. Why do you think thousands of soldiers are following it and not protesting?
They can only do their best and come back alive, and if they get shot down, the rescue team will make sure they go home to their families.
People don't fight for their country, they fight for the guy next to them.
Edit: for those that say this is illegal and people should refuse the order, it's not your career you're risking, people will be sent to jail, and you'll be dishonorably discharged, with no guarantee that the next administration will pardon you. You're essentially ruining your life because some Listnookor says it's illegal and okay to refuse the order with zero ramifications to their own career.
I bet you anything that putting yourselves in their shoes, you would follow orders too, because you have a family to take care of.

Hey Jack, you don't want to get your head cut off? Stay the f*** in Oklahoma. They ain't cuttin' off heads in Oklahoma, far as I know. And let me ask you this... this is a moral question, not rhetorical, I'm looking for the answer: what is the moral difference between cuttin' off one guy's head, or two, or three, or five, or ten - and dropping a big bomb on a hospital and killing a whole bunch of sick kids?

It’s true, JSOC grabbed him. Likely 24th STS and Delta, there was a large air contingent involved, helicopters and fixed wing refuelers, plus containment fire (likely fighters or AC-130 gunships). At least one, possibly 2 refuelers demoed in place on the ground that got stuck in the sand. Several wounded in action, no killed in action. Sounds like they had to shoot their way out.

Time to point out the incredible stupidity of Ronald Fogleman, who was Chief of Air force Staff at the time and told everyone, the US enemies included at a live press conference, that they detected O'Grady's signals BEFORE he was actually rescued. Lol.
The rescue force extracted him under fire and sure enough his naive and reckless behaviour aided the enemy.
Fogleman himself or his friends fight a Wikipedia edit war btw. to hide this pretty large stain on his jacket. Occasionally they succeed if nobody keeps watch on his main article.

America would wipe the floor with Iran on the ground, they just wouldn’t be able to control the country to enact a stable regime change afterwards and would be susceptible to guerrilla warfare. But, 100% they could land on the ground and annihilate the current regime’s ground forces.

That’s not being pro-Iran that’s just reasonable judgement that ground invasion would be bad. I want the regime to fall but a ground invasion is not a good way to do it.
Iran is a massive country with 90 million people and hundreds of thousands of soldiers. This rescue operation got in and out of the country quickly instead of occupying the land like they would need to do in war.
A full ground invasion would take many casualties. America would probably still win but at very high cost

It’s a shame how unsubtle it is too. It’s a bad look when we ask for things to be changed and then we say TACO when we get the change we asked for.
62

TACO was originally coined to describe Trump's shameless and blatant market manipulation.

People were calling TACO when Trump initially didn’t attack Iran, too. It’s all nonsense

Only those completely high on propaganda believe Iran is anything but totally outclassed here. But the fact they were able to shoot down the jet at all goes against trumps statement of Iran's capabilities being obliterated.
They still have potential to do damage and make the war costly enough to create unrest in the U.S and around the world.
351

+226
Can Iran still fire missles or inflict some damage? Yes.
Has Trump’s boastful claims oversimplified the extent with which Iran is weakened? Yes.
Has Iran’s already inferior capabilities been massively destroyed and degraded over the last 30 days? Unequivocally yes.
226
EttinTerrorPacts6 days ago
+103
There's never been any argument that Iran has far inferior capabilities to the US. What matters is: a) can they resist a ground invasion?, and b) can they close the strait if they want to? The answer to both these questions remains "very likely yes"

Where? Where are you seeing all these pro Iranian listnookors? I haven’t come across many people cheering on the Iranian regime and I have been following this situation closely. From my view point I just see a strong consensus that the Iranian regime is brutal and unnecessary yet the US has no justifiable business invading it.

The most insane part is they literally built a forward runway IN IRAN to facilitate this mission. All under Iranian noses.

You're missing the more crazier part of this story. Two C130s got stuck in the sand and they decided to blow the planes up instead of letting it fall to Iranian hands.
229
Magical_Pretzel6 days ago

And then after that they sent 3 MORE C-130S! A total of 5 C-130s entered Iranian airspace, landed and 3 got out, with no sign of Iranian action or detection.

The Kenya Times was the first newspaper to break the story about the US saving the second crew member in an Iranian operation, and many did not immediately believe it, because it was a Kenyan newspaper.

Everyone I know who served did so because they didn't want tens of thousands of dollars in university debt. Whenever there are proposals to make college affordable, the Pentagon are one of the first groups to lobby against it. F*** the military industrial complex. And f*** the government putting these troops in harms way. They never should have been put at risk for this pointless war.

Gotta say it is pretty embarrassing for Iran since they conducted a SAR for their own president in their own territory only for him to get eaten by a bear before they found him and then when a US pilot is in hostile territory the USAF and Special Operations Community conduct a daring CSAR to rescue him and kill any one trying to prevent them.

Honestly it is. Their state news broadcasted to everyone to go and find the "enemy pilot". They literally knew where he crashed, yet the dude was by himself for 36 hours before being rescued. It might just speak more to the survival instincts of the pilot though.

>In a final twist after the weapons officer was rescued, two transport planes that would carry the commandos and the airmen to safety got stuck at a remote base in Iran. Commanders decided to fly in three new planes to extract all the U.S. military personnel and the airmen, and they blew up the two disabled planes rather than have them fall into Iranian hands.
