Xi Jinping probably can’t believe his luck. First his biggest regional rival blows up its military in a pointless conflict and reveals itself as a paper tiger, and then a few short years later the world superpower that’s been keeping him in check and basically runs the show globally reelects an inept a****** that single-handedly torpedoes it’s global alliances and then likewise bogs itself down in a pointless conflict. China is on track to be the new world leader and it was entirely preventable.

Yep, all of the capitalist countries have focused on what’s the cheapest source of XYZ without caring about the implications of outsourcing the most critical resources/components of their economy. They’ve finally been waking up, but it took major disruptions to do so. China’s meanwhile built up a dominant position in most commodities, even oil and gas where they are a net importer they have tons of global equity stakes - the 2 largest oil and gas companies by revenue are Sinopec and CNPC. People have always viewed semiconductors as an area where China is behind, but in reality most chips/circuits outside of phones/computers are done with larger nodes, and China has built up tons of capacity in those older model commodity type chips/circuits to put everyone else out of business. Their dominance in solar, lithium, batteries, magnets, and basic circuitry means you can’t build pretty much any electronics without Chinese components.

> U.S. intelligence indicates China is  preparing to deliver new air defense systems to Iran  within the next few weeks, CNN reported late on Friday, citing three  people familiar with recent intelligence assessments. That's what I have been asking. Why would Russia ship actual working stuff to Iran that Russia could use for its own war?
106
hackingdreams 2 days ago +21
They wouldn't, because Russia doesn't have the hardware to ship. But, it does do a lot of business with the Chinese defense industry, and China's got defense hardware to spare. And they'd *love* to get their radars in front of US hardware at wartime, since it's going to provide them with necessary intelligence for when China makes a move on Taiwan. I can imagine China's practically giving away the hardware to Iran.
21
SporksInjected 2 days ago +11
That works both ways you know. Any time you roll out a weapon, both sides experience it.
11
Moral-Relativity 1 day ago +3
It would make more sense to have shipped their weapons before the war though. [This US government fact sheet](https://www.uscc.gov/research/china-iran-fact-sheet-short-primer-relationship) updated on 3/16 says they mostly stopped selling Iran conventional weapons after 2015 and switched to technology sharing and dual-use trade. Perhaps the calculation has changed or Iran really sweetened the deal.
3
AK_Panda 2 days ago +69
Yeah, Russia ain't got nothing to spare. It's all hands on deck for it's own war efforts. China has plenty of reason to supply either party tho.

27
Pariahb 2 days ago +6

6

Depends on what they're shipping, Russia for example needs less missile defence than it needs drone defence, furthermore slowing the Ukraine war down with less drones might be preferable to Iran collapsing.

China has hypersonic weapons** the precision is the hard part. Russia and China both have hypersonic glide bombs, but they’re not as precise at precision bombs. This is due to physics problems such as heat, speed, friction, and turning. The US has chosen not to make hypersonic glide bombs as they’ve doubled down on stealth bombs. Considering the patriot batteries has been proven effective against Russian hypersonic weapons. This seems to be a smart move.

Hell didn't Iran brag about how Russia and China are just going to keep them supplied like this is Vietnam 2. edit: Jfc I just realized it's even better for China than any other country in the world, the straight delivers something like 75% of the Asian markets oil. If China can not only get it's tankers through, and whoever kisses its ring, it can get a d******* giving away its old shit to Iran. Meanwhile, everyone China doesn't like around them is going to starve without oil. Xi is playing some 5d chess. At this point I'm willing to bet China wants this war to continue.

I read somewhere that Chinas support for Russia was based on their belief that if Russia was defeated it would allow the west to fully focus on China. Having Europe tied up in Ukraine and America tied up in Iran with c**** access to oil bought in Yuan rather than US dollars and all that data from live testing Chinese weapons would be a huge win for China.

China wants the war to continue. But not get out of hand. They want their c**** oil. Keeping the war going will keep the US busy blowing their resources, while China is tracking everything. How they fight, movement, supply lines and attacks. Also, China wants to be the ones coming in afterwards to repair and build infrastructure through Belt Road Initiatives in trade for more… oil. By then the petroyuan will take a huge chunk off the US petro dollar. If the US doesn’t get the act together and show more support for the other GCC countries. They will rebuild through China and petroyuan too. The whole world knows China is the new industrial factory. It could build fast.

If China were NOT arming Iran it would be surprising. As long as Trump continues to pull assets from region around China to be redeployed around for this war with Iran, it will be in China's best interests to perpetuate that war and arming Iran, especially with air defense systems is probably their best way to do that. China should be very happy to see the US slipping into a nice long expensive quagmire-style war far away from China, and Iran is as good an opportunity for that as any.

Like most Amercan made wars post WW2 ? High US body counts like in iraq typically sway pubic opinion.. China and Iran are allies and trading partners, I expect nothing less..

It not that no one cares, it just everyone knows it. Just like how everyone knows US provides Ukraine, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, and Israel with weapons. It's like releasing this as news "American Intel said water is wet - CNN insider reports". Well yea, water is wet.

I'm wondering how does Israel get an endless supply of arms? Who is supplying them?
