> Iran has operational access to 30 of its 33 missile sites along the Strait of Hormuz 90% is pretty remarkable.

Well, he did say they’d been decimated.

Blueopus2 13 hr ago +335
Trump’s most accurate quote to date happened because he didn’t know what the words he was saying meant…
335
lo_mur 13 hr ago +130
“Decimated” has to be one of the most misused words in the English language, so many people use it as a synonym for obliterated, destroyed, etc.
130
BugsyMcNug 12 hr ago +69
Happened so often they changed the definition. That pisses me off waaay more than it should but, hey, what can ya do.
69
trampolinebears 11 hr ago +79
It's funny that *decimate* bothers you, but not the rest of your vocabulary. For reference: * *change* used to mean "trade", like *exchange* * *definition* used to mean "bounded", like *finite* * *pissed* used to only refer to literal urine * *way* used to only mean "road" * *should* used to mean "owe" * *can* used to mean "know" Words get used differently, causing the meaning to change. That's just how language works.

genreprank 11 hr ago +100
Happened so often they trade the bound. That literally urines me off roooad more than it owes but, hey, what know ya to do.

rainshifter 5 hr ago +3
Madlibs, but with former bounds.

I’m not from an English speaking country, but from my perspective English is all a bunch of French words. No wonder English is confusing.
8
TenbluntTony 9 hr ago +8
English is a blend of Latin and Germanic languages with sprinkles of the rest of the languages as well . That’s why there’s so many different ways to articulate the same thing.
8
trampolinebears 9 hr ago +6
This isn't something unique to English I'm describing; it's how all languages work.
6
PhysicallyTender 8 hr ago +2
For example, the Malay word for cup is Cawan, which derived from the Chinese word for teacup, 茶碗 (Chá wǎn). And the English word: Compound, came from the Malay word for village: Kampung.

> No. Just, hard no. Words never lose their meanings. Uh, sure they do. Did you know the word 'clue' originally referred to a ball of yarn? Its meaning lingers in 'clew', a nautical term for a spot at which a line get tied. That original meaning has been effectively lost despite my interest in trivia
3
sixtus_clegane119 11 hr ago +1
Pissed is sorta like slang though how it developed Now it means angry or drunk depending what side of the pond
1
HoightyToighty 7 hr ago +3
Are you taking the piss?

Never said it didn't. Having a good day?
-8
trampolinebears 10 hr ago +8
I’m having a reasonably good day, yes. One of the projects I’m working on is going better than expected.
8
JamesTheJerk 11 hr ago -8
Wouldn't you take the word at face definition of the time it was used?
-8
trampolinebears 10 hr ago +7
What do you mean by “face definition”?
7

3
ZenBastid 12 hr ago +22
Agreed - if you want to decimate a dozen donuts just eat one and take a bite of another.  There. Decimated.
22
Capable_Kiwi2514 10 hr ago +6
That's not misuse that's how words work.
6
LongBeakedSnipe 6 hr ago +1
It is not misused because a few listnookors are pompously sticking to a dated version of the word that is basically never used.

It's quite possible he actually doesn't know what's going on. They said they had to kick him out of the war room because he was super pissed off. Basically they are lying to him to make him seem like he's winning. But then again trump lies like he breath so it could be a lie.

10% of the time, we obliterate things every time!
3
furimmerkaiser 7 hr ago +2
In the last 4 years I have learned that it is not difficult to bring down the "global military superpower" to their knees. Both Russia and US are struggling despite having the top military in the world.
2
ObviouslyRealPerson 13 hr ago +2
Obliterated! ...unless they have shovels
2
qTp_Meteor 13 hr ago -7
90% of bases are somewhat or fully operational, doesnt mean that the missiles are or that its in good shape, just that the bases can be used, pretty meaningless story imo
-7
Some_Conference2091 12 hr ago +35
Your comment leads me to believe you either didn't read the article or you didn't understand it.  "Iran still fields about 70 percent of its mobile launchers across the country and has retained roughly 70 percent of its prewar missile stockpile, according to the assessments. That stockpile encompasses both ballistic missiles, which can target other nations in the region, and a smaller supply of cruise missiles, which can be used against shorter-range targets on land or at sea." "United States expended roughly 1,100 long-range stealth cruise missiles in the war — close to the total supply that remains in the American stockpile. The military also fired more than 1,000 Tomahawk missiles, roughly 10 times the number the Pentagon procures in a year. And it used more than 1,300 Patriot interceptor missiles during the war, which accounts for more than two years of production at 2025 rates." Just those two quotes have a lot of meaningful implications for the future of US security.  The conflict has made America less able to defend against a true threat, should one arise. It's also clear that Iran is still able to easily threaten shipping and infrastructure in the region. To fully discuss all the reasons why the Iran war was a strategic blunder would take days.
35
laptopAccount2 12 hr ago +3
Well good to see the patriot production is reasonable at least. America has infinity laser guided bombs. All the expensive stuff let's us operate without exposing our planes to much of any risk. In a serious war you would still be getting blown up everywhere all at once from stealth bombers, just that you would also be shooting some of those down. This makes me much more wary about a conflict with China. We have an army, navy, Air Force, space Force... China has a dedicated rocket force. They're going to block out the sun with their missiles.
3
DemosthenesOrNah 9 hr ago
> In a serious war you would still be getting blown up everywhere all at once from stealth bombers, "serious war" is now semi-autonomous robot swarms on land, sea and air. 100% of neo-modern doctrine will revolve around trying to stop c****, fast drones. We are see a shift in the entire definition of 'air superiority' with the advent of ai/IR empowered drone flocks..

chaos0xomega 13 hr ago +19
Leaked pentagon memo says they still have access to over 70% of their missile stocks and launchers, its reasonable to conclude that a signoficant portion of those 30 missile bases are operational threats.
19
wiseoldfox 13 hr ago +1
Yeah, but there has been an awful lot of leaks since the "excursion".
1
SirTresmegestis 5 hr ago -2
>Iran still fields about 70 percent of its mobile launchers across the country and has retained roughly 70 percent of its prewar missile stockpile, Its more like 70% - and TBH losing 30% capabilities in just a few short months is not a good look. If America lost 30% capabilties the NYTimes would be screaming about how bad that is for the US. It also doesnt account for the major losses in leadership and the multiple navy vessels that were destroyed. I think people just dont want to admit that these strikes hit Iran hard. >People with knowledge of the assessments said they show — to varying degrees, depending on the level of damage incurred at the different sites — that the Iranians can use mobile launchers that are inside the sites to move missiles to other locations. Them moving mobile launchers was always an option. The problem for Iran is that they are pretty much just relying on luck that they dont get spotted by UAV and destroyed enroute. They DONT have the AA capabilities to effectivly stop US strikes on their mobile launchers. Also we can talk all day about what Iran could do - but its clear what they are doing is now after weeks their strikes have dried up and have made zero attempt to stop the blockade or even strike at any of the elements that are currently putting them in check. There hasnt been a unified message from their leadership and their navy still cant contest at sea

Didn’t the US bomb them for like a month straight? What the f*** were they bombing every day if not the 33 missle sites along the straight. Seems kind of like the most obvious target.

Apparently they were targeting the areas that didn’t have air defences. They avoided the more heavily defended areas. But that’s not from verified sources just chatter online

They basically only hit Tehran and a few places in Isfahan.  In Tehran, they mostly hit IRGC affiliated buildings, most of which were empty: police departments, companies, safe houses, etc. They hit airports, specifically mehrabad. Almost daily for a while. They hit checkpoints set up by the irgc on the streets to kill citizens.

3
soggyarsonist 5 hr ago +3
The USA has not come out of this well. Not only have they fucked the global economy but they look militarily weak as well since they've failed to prevent Iran from continuing it's retaliatory attacks on its neighbours and shipping. I'm particularly pissed off that the fallout from this is helping the far right in the UK since it's undoing most of the economic improvements the current government achieved and the public largely put the blame on the government.
3
doublelist87 4 hr ago +1
We were lied to by Hegseth that the bombings in June 2025 wiped out Iran’s nuclear capabilities? Were we also lied to by Hegseth that a girls school was blown up by Iran not the United States? Everything is just one Big Beautiful LIE!!!
1
goodtimtim 9 hr ago +3
It's not a good look go deplete 50% of our patriots, and 25% of our tomahawks and come out worse off then when we started. The trillion dollar war machine (anually) isn't set up to fight a modern conflict.

From an air only campaign against an adversary that buried it's arsenal deep underground the best we could do is deny them access to their magazine for a couple weeks. If we're not maintaining closures to their underground facility then all they need is a few days with some basic earth moving hardware and the capability is back online. Kegsbreath likes to claim what was rendered inaccessible is "destroyed" but with the depth of cease fire they've had access to... I'd be willing to bet a rather large portion if not a majority of their fires potential has been restored.
2

> Obliterated 🟠💩
1
VegetableWishbone 7 hr ago +1
Is this any surprise? Iran has almost all of its missile manufacturing and storage inside mountains that are impervious to the biggest bunker buster bombs in the U.S. arsenal.
1
SirTresmegestis 5 hr ago +2
But they gotta move those mobile launchers into position to use them. Hiding underground doesnt win wars - not when your main strait is being blockaded. And even with all that mountain protect Iran still lost about 30% of its missel capabilities in just a few short months. If the shoe was on the other foot and it was the US who lost 30% of anything, NYtime would be calling it a major loss.... And people are being fooled by Trump. This wasnt his plan or idea - hes just taking credit for a military campaign he has nothing to do with. He was worrying about what his next 3am post would be up until the moment the war started. I wouldnt even be surprised if Military command kept him in the dark until the very last moment.

11

Yes, the military junta in Myanmar is out of control. The atrocities carried out against millions of Rohingya is one of the most severe humanitarian and human rights crises of the 21st century. Or were you talking about Gaza?

Its sad I dont know which "regime" you are talking about. Could be Iran could be US with Trump...
1
xerthighus 13 hr ago +1
So what are your suggestions on achieving this objective. Most intelligent assessments also suggests a full scale invasion of Iran is unlikely to collapse the regime. The regime was only months in power and survived a full invasion by Iraq backed and supplied by the US and has dug in defensively since.
1
Tall_Hat_4246 8 hr ago
What? You mean Trump has lied to us this whole time. I don’t believe it! Of course they do and of course Trump is a liar.

And now that we have gotten their attention, they will focus on extending their mid-range missile capability to reach DC & NYC.
-2
Ice_Milk 13 hr ago -8
U.S. intelligence really is world‑class at writing scripts: same country, two stories — ‘Iran is a massive missile threat’ when they want to bomb, ‘Iran’s missile capability is basically wiped out’ when they want to brag. No wonder nobody believes them anymore.
-8
Some_Conference2091 12 hr ago +18
The intelligence has been consistent, it's the politicians that are telling lies.
18
RespectSquare8279 11 hr ago -1

23
KazeNilrem 12 hr ago +8
That's the problem, especially for the red states. They purposefully look for ways to dumb down the population. It is not a coincidence that educated people typically lean more left, I mean trump said it himself, smart people do not like him. It is easier to manipulate and control people who lack any sense of logic and reason.
8
