7
CircumspectCapybaraMar 16, 2026

The US didn't target oil infra on Kharg, only military infra.
The idea is to leave it as a point of further escalation. You wanna give your adversary something to lose, and 90% of the regime's oil exports (their financial lifeline) is something huge. If you leave them with nothing else to lose, they have no reason to surrender or seek a negotiated settlement.
The US can still escalate this further and make it hurt harder, by targeting more regime leadership and actually striking oil infra and sinking Iranian tankers like Iran is doing to others. That would actually hurt, because if Iran's oil base is destroyed, that sets them back decades and cuts all their soft power for decades to come, plus their financial ability to make and sustain a protracted war.
But you want to be careful to leave them something to lose. It's why the US got mad at Israel for striking Iran's oil infra. Israel doesn't want Iran to come to the negotiating table, they want Iran totally dismantled, so they don't care about that. The US wants Iran to take an off ramp. There are still a few rungs more in the escalation ladder, but once you strike the oil infra, you lose it as leverage.

That's just smart warmaking, there.

Gas prices make him look bad which he doesn't like, so even if you believe him that he is fighting a terrorist regime, its okay if their terrorists as long as he can say gas prices are coming down.
F*** this guy so much.
I hope gas goes to $9.00 a gallon.

I used to allow Iranian oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz. I still do, but I used to, too.

It’s because he knows it’s not safe, so he thinks they’ll hit the mines. Or, he’s trying to demonstrate to shipping companies that it’s safe so he can encourage them to go through also. Regardless, he’s not “allowing” anything.

90% of Iranian oil export are to China. China is apparently refusing to be affected by Trump's war and gave Trump an order to allow their products through.

Because if they stopped them it would not only increase global supply constraints but likely anger China too.

If China wouldn't get any oil, that'd be just as bad for China as the rest of the oil importers. It's not like China would just go on with less oil, they'd buy it from somewhere else and raise global prices.
I'm very interested in your source on China's order to Trump.

"US is allowing" LOL
As if they're capable of that. That's like me allowing the electric company to keep transmitting power through the electric lines. False sense of power by the Trump admin. It's like when someone gets fired and the person turns around and says "Nuh uh, I quit".

'Allowing'. 🙄
So, what was it Trump was 'demanding' other nations to send warships yesterday for, then?
Ships are going through regardless of what the US says or does, will-you-nil-you, at the sole will and discretion of Iran.

Minimum_Run_890Mar 16, 2026

Ok, so the US is allowing ships through the Straight of Hormuz, why do they need other countries to do this if all they had to do was let ships through? Wasn’t Iran somehow responsible for this yesterday?

Honest question.
What's that p**** Donald Trump waiting for? Blast the oil tankers out of the water. Get your big boy pants on and make WW3 happen before you croak.
It costs less to fire missiles than it does to decommission expired warheads.

Jokes aside, does this mean we’ll see reduced oil prices globally given the (albeit marginal) increase in supply?
Or will Iran simply increase the price they’re selling the barrel at to say “f*** you”?

I just don't see it happening as long as he keeps at this and the longer he keeps resources there. Businesses and people are basically paralyzed right now with what to do. There is no stability.
China gets something like 45% of it's oil from Iran. So few ships are getting through it's not going to have a major effect and the negative effects of keeping this going will outweigh it.
Right now Trump is trying to get a coalition of countries to go to war with him against Iran and using the closure of the strait and the jump in prices as the excuse to join him in the invasion.
I can see Iran working with other countries to allow passage, but that will just anger Trump and it would almost look like Trump vs the world and any remaining allies at that point.

Trump doesn’t care about any of this anyway. He just doesn’t want us talking about the Epstein files.
I’d bet anything that the attack on Cuba that our Government is clearly planning comes right after the Epstein files become a national focus again.

I really don't get these comments. Do people really think the US couldn't stop some tankers from getting out the strait of hormus? They easily could.
The reason they don't stop them, is because then Iran would start mining the strait since they don't profit from it anyways. It's mutually assured destruction, and the US isn't willing to start.

that's not an "allow."
that's stretched semantics . It's like holding a gun at a guy with a deadman's switch. You don't have another choice, you shoot and die, or leave. The only thing being "allowed" is not killing yourself by shooting.
the title is being generous

So if the US knows they are going to get hit back after intervening, they aren’t really allowing anything then, Iran is just forcing their hand.
