They were *never* a credible source of information. Watch dog organizations within the federal government existed for a reason…and there was a reason many of them were disbanded or significantly diminished by this administration.

You only have to filter what they say through a complete inversion lens: Good is Evil, Truth is Lies, then apply the Littlefinger standard. Imagine the worst, most self-serving reason they could be doing what they are doing, then it all becomes clear.

The US didn't target oil infra on Kharg, only military infra. The idea is to leave it as a point of further escalation. You wanna give your adversary something to lose, and 90% of the regime's oil exports (their financial lifeline) is something huge. If you leave them with nothing else to lose, they have no reason to surrender or seek a negotiated settlement. The US can still escalate this further and make it hurt harder, by targeting more regime leadership and actually striking oil infra and sinking Iranian tankers like Iran is doing to others. That would actually hurt, because if Iran's oil base is destroyed, that sets them back decades and cuts all their soft power for decades to come, plus their financial ability to make and sustain a protracted war. But you want to be careful to leave them something to lose. It's why the US got mad at Israel for striking Iran's oil infra. Israel doesn't want Iran to come to the negotiating table, they want Iran totally dismantled, so they don't care about that. The US wants Iran to take an off ramp. There are still a few rungs more in the escalation ladder, but once you strike the oil infra, you lose it as leverage.

And lifting sanctions on Russia whom are supplying Iran with intel while they're at war with an ally. Stable genius indeed.

Honestly, if this situation continues, I can see Iran pushing for other countries to shoo the US out. Everyone is f****** pissed, and for good reason.

If the US destroys Irans ability to produce and sell oil then that is no longer a point of leverage the US can use for negotiation, and it incentivizes Iran to completely f*** the strait for everyone (including themselves) as they no longer benefit at all from it being relatively free of mines

This actually makes sense; oil shock happens because of supply drop globally, so if Iran can still ship oil, the supply shock is less

If China wouldn't get any oil, that'd be just as bad for China as the rest of the oil importers. It's not like China would just go on with less oil, they'd buy it from somewhere else and raise global prices. I'm very interested in your source on China's order to Trump.

I just don't see it happening as long as he keeps at this and the longer he keeps resources there. Businesses and people are basically paralyzed right now with what to do. There is no stability. China gets something like 45% of it's oil from Iran. So few ships are getting through it's not going to have a major effect and the negative effects of keeping this going will outweigh it. Right now Trump is trying to get a coalition of countries to go to war with him against Iran and using the closure of the strait and the jump in prices as the excuse to join him in the invasion. I can see Iran working with other countries to allow passage, but that will just anger Trump and it would almost look like Trump vs the world and any remaining allies at that point.
