Some American billionaires and soon-to-be billionaires are making shiploads of money from the predictable market ups and downs if they have access to inside knowledge. Oil companies are making money regardless of having or not having insider knowledge. I fail to see how normal everyday Americans will benefit anything from this mess. The high fuel prices and the inflation stemming from from the fuel price, Trump's tariffs and chaos in the manufacturing sector will sap the working class the worst and eat away at their purchasing power. This is wealth extraction plain and simple and has nothing to do with America First or "but the foreigners are taking advantage of us!" I sound like a cringey commie college student but I think this is clearly a massive wealth transfer. Powerful people are extracting obscene quantities of money from the working class and middle class through increased prices and federal tax money being used for arms purchases and such.

I personally hate theories that Putin or Netenyahu control Trump through some kind of sex tape blackmail. It makes Trump an unwilling victim in all this, that somehow he would be supporting Ukraine, taking a strong line on Israel and Gaza and not involved in Iran if only they were not blackmailing him. It's one possible explanation, or a part of a wider explanation, as to why the US has chosen to attack Iran now, or Trump's weird unwillingness to ever criticise Putin (even weirder given what he says about allies), that Trump can be, is being, leveraged. Both things can be true at once, and Trump's personal lifestyle, history, proclivity for young girls, and long and well documented relationship with Epstein mean he is uniquely vulnerable to the types of "kompromat" that are well understood in intelligence circles. Any reasonable analysis of the situation would have to include this as a possibility. And the likelihood of any such elements being verifiable in public is always going to be low, as such tools are so valuable, that those using the tools will almost never burn them. Just as the British managed to protect the fact that they could break Enigma for many decades after they had done it in the second world war. If you publicly proclaim it, the value instantly vanishes because everyone suddenly knows you can't use the method anymore. Likewise if kompromat exists on Trump, the leverage comes from NOT making it public. That's the gift that keeps on giving. Even if he ignores a threat they make relating to it, they aren't going to give it up and burn it and him, because doing so will just damage their influence over him. So to d******* this possibility (reasonable likelihood) with all we know about Trump and his behaviour, would be almost as remiss as thinking it's ONLY that. As always in life, things are complicated, but I think there's enough smoke - a billowing cloud stretching right up into the sky - to reasonably conclude there's a fire, without it falling into the realm of baseless conspiracy.

Unfortunately, the damage Trump has caused is just too big. Russia is selling its oil at 3x the price, because not only has the price increased, but also the d******* for russian oil has disappeared. Ukraine did some attacks on Russian port infrastructure but it was -40% at best and only for a very short period. One of the affected ports has already almost resumed working at it's pre-attack capacity. War in Iran is a disaster for Ukraine.

I think that of all things is what makes me so angry about Trump and co. They aren't just the stereotypical "old white men" but OLD in terms of almost literally one foot in the grave. They have a few years at most and are wealthier and more powerful than most of the world. Their families and their descendants are set for lifetimes... yet these geriatric monsters are using the last few years they have not to enjoy their wealth and power but to desperately clutch at more in a pathetic final gasp. All that they have is STILL not enough for them, even though they can't take it with them. They don't care that they are destroying the world for those younger than them and the generations to come. They are not content with a peaceful end. They want to die with it ALL in their grabby evil fists. Trump will die soon, and die wanting more. When is enough for these people? Never. Even on their deathbeds. PS It is why I get nervous whenever I hear about super rich techbro assholes looking to cyborg themsleves or upload themselves into computers. Likely because the Iranian blockade and closure of the straight meant Iran's oil wasnt going to flow through, so he lifted sanctions on Russian oil to both keep prices down and take Iranian customers away? I get that everyone believes he's a Russian asset and I don't agree with lifting sanctions, but it just seems so unlikely that he lifted the sanctions at putins behest when there's a clear reason to do it to further US agendas...
